Lu Ten II

Finally, I made this haha well yeah his name is Lu Ten and he is Katara and Zuko's first born. But in some AU that I wrote he is the second child that Zuko has after Izumi. In this one, Zuko has a poly relationship with Mai and Katara.

Even if he is the first son that Zuko and Katara have he never became a fire lord, his little sister, Kya, would be the fire lord while he became a doctor.

I dont know when I would do the digital part and give him color maybe one day if I have enough energy but I would give you a character description

Lu Ten looks like Zuko a lot, having light skin, dark brown hair, and blue eyes.

His items are mostly his water skin, bone choker, Uncle Sokka club, and Mai knife. (Mai knife is optional) and why does he have a weapon, being a doctor doesn't mean you are not prepared if someone attacks you and you run out of water. well, it is mostly was emergency. And Mai thinks he needs one, at least Mai thinks he clearly needs it

Why a Maitara?

-Well if there’s a Zukka out there, why not a maitara? I also read about Avatar Kyoshi/Rangi briefly in atla wikia. Also Korrasami which I’m not emotionally invested in because I’d rather expand the atla universe with the gaang rather than jumping generations without having to fully close their chapters. I also liked the friendship between Mai and Katara as interpreted by @sadladybug in the amazing heart wrenching zutara angsty fanfic ‘Clothe Me in Seasons.’

In my hc, Mai discovers she prefers women when she teamed up with Jun for a time, and that Katara started getting attracted to Mai while being married to Zuko.

Why are the gaang women all mothers and why are they having babies at a young age? (Toph 16, Katara 18, Suki 20)

-In keeping with the atla culture set in ancient asia, or even ancient times, women were also betrothed at a young age that time. Even Japan just only recently revised their age of consent from 13 (yes! 13! Geez) to 16 last June. India 16-18 yo last 2012. This has nothing to do with Kataang vs Zutara being both underage which the creators also did in canon anyway. Despite this, the gaang women wouldn’t be solely ‘domesticated’. Not that there’s anything wrong with that but I also dont think there is anything wrong putting our heroines in positions of power given their titles as war heroes. And even in ancient times many women rise to the call when needed-Mulan, Joan of Arc, Deborah, not to mention the notorious female pirate Anne Bonny. The Gaang women also have a role to play in rebuilding their nations as mothers and ambassadors. Also, I just love seeing them holding their babies 🤗. In my au, only Jun is not a mom. Maybe Ty Lee too, that tart lol.

Will you include Ursa or Kiyi?

-I dont know. I’m still mulling about how to incorporate why Ursa left without her children in the first place. What could possibly have made her make that decision as a mother, resulting in Azula being Azula and Zuko’s scar. I mean I liked the plot that she left (or died) which made the siblings who they are. But there should be a compelling story behind it. If there is a Kiyi, it would still be Ozai’s but this is due to a conjugal visit by Ursa before she mercy killed him in prison. This is because in my hc, Ursa is a member of the White Lotus even before Iroh became a member . She found out about the plan of the New Ozai Society to free Ozai before he is hanged for his war crimes. However they intend to assassinate Zuko this time instead of having him exiled permanently. Then bam she got pregnant which delays her plans to reunite with Zuko and instead, frees Azula first.

Why a zkmai?

-If there’s a Zutaraang or a Suzukka out there 🤣🤣🤣… Why not? In my fanon, Katara was never in a relationship with Aang even before getting together with Zuko. Zuko wont have an on again off again relationship with Mai. They’re all too good for that so why not make all three of them happy lol. For general readership, it will be wholesome here in this page where they’re all besties. Also, there’s a difference between a zkmai and a maikotara. Maikotara is coming of Mai x Zuko canon pairing. A zkmai comes off of Zuko x Katara x Mai. So I’m a zkmaier. By this time, Suki is replaced by Ty Lee as Katara’s kyoshi guard (vs Zuko in the comics) while Suki goes back to the islands to train more warriors. Suki eventually marries Sokka and gives up her position as the leader of the Kyoshi warriors and becomes the Chieftess of the South. Ty Lee is more than happy to let Katara off her sight from time to time as instructed but doesn’t know what’s really going on.

Are you still a zutarian?

-O hardcore. I just want to muck up their almost perfect relationship. Not even sure I’m gonna incorporate a maitara/zkmai even. I’m just pondering about it. Maybe its a ficlet separate from Legacy of the Six… Maybe

Mai and Zuko?

Why I ship them (or why I do not): Oooh. So my journey with this ship is kind of an interesting one. I used to hate them. But lately, I’ve grown to appreciate them more. I think they can balance each other out really well once they get their groove. I love how Zuko appreciates how much of a badass his gf is. And I think Mai’s cool temper could make her good for Zuko, who does need to be grounded sometimes. They have some good angst scenes too. (Hello Boiling Rock). They’re still not my otp by any means (just look at my UN lol) but they’re cute. And as far as canon ships go, I much prefer them over K*taang.

My favorite moment between them: That scene where Mai confront him on the boiling rock because I’m an angst hoe. And that moment when Zuko locks the door on her and they lock eyes for those few seconds? Chills.

My least favorite moment between them: A lot of their interactions with each other in The Beach before their resolution. They were both pretty rude to each other multiple times throughout that episode.

The character I prefer: I’ve grown to appreciate Mai much more than I used but Zuko has been my messy son for years now. The only characters that hold a candle to him for me are Katara and Azula.

A fanfic idea for them that I would love to read or write: This is kind of cheating because it’s not really a Mai/Zuko idea but a Maikotara one (Zuko/Mai/Katara). Years after the war, Katara comes to stay at the Fire Nation as an ambassador. Zuko (who is now engaged to Mai) is thrilled because he and Katara have remained close over the years. Mai is more apprehensive. She knows Zuko loves her but she’s thought for a while now that he and Katara are a bit too close for her comfort. However, Mai begins to grow closer to Katara as well, and eventually, develops feelings of her own. She panics at first. Here she was being jealous of Zuko and Katara’s friendship and now she has developed feelings for someone other than her fiancé. Eventually, she comes clean to Zuko about how she’s feeling. To her surprise, Zuko is relieved, because he has similar feelings for Katara. The rest of the fic is Zuko and Mai both awkwardly trying to find a way to ask Katara to be their third.

What I would have changed about how canon handled them if I could: I wish we had gotten at least a little buildup and tension before they got together? That was always one of the things that held me back from shipping them in the past.

ships i like with this character:

Z U T A R A: my main ship for katara! their relationship development was so compelling and realistic (i.e. not just taking words at face value, but actually putting effort into actions to show the other person that you're remorseful.) i love how it is handled with such respect for katara's autonomy and her feelings. how not once is katara guilt-tripped or given excuses. how they were there for each other in their most critical moments and provided non-judgmental support. how they trust each other with their literal lives and were willing to die for each other. how katara trusts and believes in his goodness with such conviction, that she ultimately wins him the throne. i'm gonna cut it off here before i go into zk brainrot lol.

jintara: i like this ship because i think her and katara have a lot of similarities wrt their personalities. i also really like them as an ot3 with zuko (jinkotara) because they both canonically love tea, so why not throw in their tea-serving bf? also i see both of their loves languages as physical touch, so i can see them having fun teasing zuko, and doing gestures like jin did when she ruffled his hair.

maitara: i like the contrast of this ship. katara is openly warm and affectionate, whereas mai is a bit more reserved. in a post-war setting, i could see katara encouraging mai to be more assertive and expressive, kind of challenging the things she learned growing up. and i think mai would remind katara to take time to actually relax and have fun. i also like maikotara, but not in a fully romantic way. more like.... mai is katara's gf and zuko is katara's bf. and maiko are ... just friends that are here for the vibe, you know?

harutara: ok their sunset convo was kinda romantic ... or was it just me? i love how katara even tho he doesn't know her, is able to inspire him to push back against the "no earth bending" rule (even if it backfired because of that snitching old man.) katara is really humble and she doesn't really take credit for all that she does. i love haru's line "it wasn't the coal, it was you, katara." i thought it was cute when he asked katara to come back with them. and then, the next time haru sees the gaang, he again talks about how katara inspired him. i love a good ship where the boy is in complete awe of the girl.

jiangtara: gay people.

yuetara: the moon/ocean imagery just does it for me. i love the spiciness and potential drama of katara realizing that she likes girls when she falls for her brother's girlfriend. and the angst of her feeling that lost love once yue becomes the moon, having never told her how she felt (for obvious reasons.)

azutara: honestly, two pretty girlfriends. dassit.
