Today is the day I tell management to back the fuck off of me. In nursing, there is this epidemic (essentially) where supervisors and managers think its ok to mandate their employees to work an additional 8 hours. In the technician union handbook, this is unfortunately legal, but what management is supposed to be doing is hiring more people but they aren’t because they have no money. Current staff becomes burnt out from being mandated every 3 weeks or so. I am so so so so sick of it because if you refuse a mandation you get written up. I refused recently (for the first time since I started working there!) because my ankle hurt so bad and usually after work I go home, put it up, and ice it. So as a result of my refusal I got written up. I am just so livid with how irresponsible and corrupt the management is at the hospital I work for and I am taking strides to rise above them. Well I took it upon myself to get a note from my orthopedic surgeon saying I can no longer work for more than 8 hours - BOOYAH BITCH, YOU CANT FUCK WITH ME. No more toiling away at 5 in the morning trying to stay awake and then having to go to class in the morning. No workplace should have that much control over your well-being, its inhumane. So today, with the help of my union rep, I am fighting my write up with the vice president and when I show her the note I will win.
