I know people like to write stories without aftercare because it's "too soft" and the characters aren't together. BUT think about this: there is aftercare, and then they act as if nothing had happened, but one of them is thinking about that post-sex moment when they were there lying together. Isn't that even more deliciously dramatic? It was just really basic aftercare but oh it would have been so nice to keep holding each other for just a little while longer.

My favorite (/s) thing across fandoms when it comes to male characters and how a not-insignificant portion of fans respond to them, particularly in games:

Guy A: Genuinely kind, conventionally attractive, wholesome, upstanding, principled, and emotionally stable man with a job asks you to perform a community oriented task. (maybe a few of them) Depending on romance mechanics, because you complete them, and/or if you flirt with him, he might flirt back. If you say no, he backs down and never mentions it again. Fandom calls boring because he “has nothing to fix”. They might also call him sanctimonious or other synonyms.

Guy B: bastard upon introduction. Negs you at every chance as his personality base, or slips it into conversation as a manipulation tactic. "Doesn't like other people”. Might play hard to get romantically. TRAUMA, and refuses (for a large part of the story, if discussed) to do anything about it. Could be all edge and no point. Describes himself as a loner frequently. Romance is often far more aggressive, toxic and sexualized by the fandom than the writers could ever conceive of. Will be described as “just needing someone to take care of him” 😢 even if he betrays you for a corn chip.

Here's the favorite part: fandom will absolutely call Guy A ten kinds of creep for one flirtatious comment in an effort to sink them below Guy B's level.

To be clear, I'm not insulting the Guy B's in fandoms. I'm on record enjoying some of them very much. I just have a massive problem with people lying to themselves and everyone else about what's going on in a story and with the characters when they realize they aren't comfortable with what they've attracted to.
