Day 8 for #letsflyyogabirds yoga challenge is Benvajasana, Benubird Pose - I didn't even know this pose had an actual name!!! Like all poses, there are many variations, I chose to stand rather than kneel, and my hands just wanted to naturally find each other and clasp together as I extended my arms out, so I just went with it! 💙 Hosts🌸 @yogawesermarsch @inspiremyyoga @yogameg.uk @toonieyoga Sponsors💐 @liforme @yogadotom @inspiritcollective @vibratehigherofficial @arctic.flamingo.leggings #yoga #yogachallenge #marchyogachallenge #yogapose #practice #play #fitness #fitnessmotivation #balance #fit #kapinjalasana #benubird #benvasana #breathe #centered #letgo #focused #grounded #shoulderopener #hipopener #chestopener #stretch #strong #workinprogress #strongwomen #yvonnekellyfitness (at Calabasas, California)
Day 29 is Forearm Stand!! Picture on the left is from 3/4/18 Picture on the right is from today 3/29/20 Here’s a pose with MAJOR progress. I can actually hold this pose comfortably for several breaths now 🥺😇 basically almost a minute....verses two seconds in 2018 lol I can also straighten my legs now!!! Yay!! Also note my focal point! Yes, it’s between my arms now :D #marchyogachallenge #yogachallenge #progressnotperfection #yogi #yogini #breathe #practiceandalliscoming #smile #forearmstand https://www.instagram.com/p/B-Uts4ZlM9v/?igshid=ixvmbhaq5u3r
Day 10 is Sphinx Pose. Picture above is from today 3/10/20 Picture below is from 2/14/15. There’s not much to see here guys...but in five years I can tell you that my understanding of this pose has most certainly developed. In the picture on the bottom I saw this pose as a resting position. Now? I definitely press into my elbows way more and use that weight to drag my chest forward, engaging my thoracic region, & of course engaging the core/legs/tootsies (toes in case you don’t understand my lingo)—add all that up and Sphinx pose is a bit harder then just resting like you’re watching TV. Now I understand it’s a backbend...and you know what they say about backbends!!!! Oh you don’t?! Let me tell you...heightened emotionality sneaks up on the mind. I’ve never taken so long to take a picture of a pose...nothing felt right today. My practice wasn’t as light hearted as it usually is and every time I went to decide on a frame to capture (I record a video then screenshot) nothing really spoke to me :/ ONLY because I was being so critical...even now I feel like I could’ve done a better job with this pose but this is the reality of yoga. You’re not always a happy positive person. You’re not living in only positivity. I say this because a lot of philosophical-brained people who know I’m a yogi have told me “you’re too positive” or “it’s wrong of you to only acknowledge positivity”...well, what I have to say to this is that it is correct to accept the nature of duality HOWEVER when do you think you perform your best physically...also do you think you learn more by wallowing in negativity or is it that when you accept negativity you’re actually being positive—and does that help facilitate productivity? I’ll let you guys think on that. I surrender to the nature of duality and the duality of nature 😝💖💞⭐️💫✨ some days are good some days are bad. We learn regardless. #yogi #yogachallenge #marchyogachallenge #smile #breathe #itsokaynottobeokay #yoginilifestyle #yogini #sphinxpose #practiceandalliscoming https://www.instagram.com/p/B9j8A_QFIC6/?igshid=1eses7lewjshl
Day 2: Cat/Cow - Above 2/5/15 Below 3/2/20 - Two major yet subtle changes to my practice!!! And that’s 1. Alignment 2. Knowledge & by that I mean look at the difference between where my hips were and where they are now...directly above the knees & same with the shoulders. I’ve learned a LOT about my shoulders in the past five years, finding comfort in the foundation of the four corners of my hands and gripping the fingers. I’ve learned how to release my neck and to have a nice slow transition in the lower back and always engaging that core [thanks to teacher training 💕✨] (I have a history with low back pain so learning that contracting the core saves your lower back REALLy helped me move forward in my practice). It also helps to understand what these poses are actually doing for your body and really listening to what your body needs and not trying to push too hard too soon so that it leads to an injury. I love the front body stretch with cow 🐄 & since I’ve been able to relax my neck more, I can really stretch into my spine comfortably with cat 🐈 Hope everyone’s enjoying the shift of energy in this first week of March, I know I am ✨😇🌃😍💫🎶💘🐚💖🧘♀️#marchyogachallenge #yogachallenge #yogi #yogini #yoga #yogagirl #yogaeverydamnday #yogaeveryday #smile #listen #alliscoming https://www.instagram.com/p/B9PgAdRFPmR/?igshid=xni4rw9rvwj5
Day 30 is Headstand! I did a variation :) Picture on the left is from 12/15/17 Picture on the right is from today 3/30/20 These pictures don’t look very different at all—but there is one main difference I’ve noticed: lift (don’t I look very straightened out today verses three years ago?). In 2017 I was really balancing on my head lol which is part of what headstand is. But it’s more like Tadasana—otherwise known as Mountain Pose. Tadasana looks like you’re just standing up straight, but it’s not as easy as it seems. Five deep breathes in Tadasana should warm up your entire body from being fully engaged in every muscle (I used to do this at the bus stop during those cold windy wcsu months). That’s the main difference I’m seeing here, in headstand. I used to be so passive in it and just trying to balance upside down lol but now I understand that everything should be lifting towards the sky 🌌 I can feel safe upside down because of my foundational engagement 🥳 #marchyogachallenge #yogachallenge #headstand #practiceandalliscoming #rememberyourfoundation #breathe #smile #progressnotperfection https://www.instagram.com/p/B-XawM3lGRY/?igshid=rhg9zmd67cjy
Day 9 :) Compass Pose!!!! Picture on the Right is from 1/10/17 Picture on the Left is from today 3/9/20. Okay 3 years right? It may seem like only a little bit has changed but I believe out of the entire March Yogini 🧘♀️ Challenge Compass Pose has seen the most amount of progress. I only say this because right away I see three major differences: 1.) My left hip is grounded 2.) My right foot is tucked in where it’s supposed to be & 3.) My left leg is closer to straight with much less force. I brightened the pictures so you may be able to see that my right hip is wayyyy off the ground in the left picture. I didn’t realize it then, but the foundational work that is crucial to the safety of your practice is also required for a more honest assessment of what your body needs in your practice. In the past few months I’ve been focused on sticking to a yoga schedule that pushes me to work a certain region of the body strength-wise or stretch-wise and a lot of the time both! For example, today I worked on backbends & legs 😅 I’m tired guys lol my legs feel like cement but my hips are as light as a feather lol I bring this up because these past few months have been the most consistent yoga schedule I’ve ever had and that’s important to me because I’d rather be consistent and do a 15-30 minute video everyday then a full hour three times a week. I’m excited to see this challenge in a few years and update 💖 I feel like I’m just starting yoga even though it’s been so many years. I’m happy to learn more and am grateful for my practice and for my ability to move my body everyday 💘💕✨💫🧘♀️ Hope all is well with you & your yogi journey #namaste #marchyogachallenge #yogachallenge #yoga #yogini #yoginisofinstagram #yoginilife #yoginilifestyle #smile #practiceandalliscoming #breathe #itsokaytomakemistakes #inthewordsofmel #liveandlearn #focus #love #becompassionate #yogaeverydamnday https://www.instagram.com/p/B9hts1BlRul/?igshid=1oyklapv34k55
