Dr. Mario Headcanons

because that’s what i’m hyperfixating on right now

I think Mario did earn a medical degree, he seems like the kinda guy who has the work ethic to do that. If not a medical degree, at least a master's degree in chemistry.

Luigi is not a doctor... yet. I think he was inspired by his brother to pursue a career in the medical field too, but he didn’t start immediately. He could be in the middle of residency in Dr. Luigi (he’s an intern, likely for his brother considering their practices’ similarity.)

Wario is not a doctor either, he just wants to get his hands on the Megavitamins so he can sell them and earn a huge profit. Other than that I think he’d be a regular customer, considering the fact that he’s no stranger to illness. Which makes regular check-ups and treatment very awkward for both him and Dr. Mario.

All intelligent “generic enemies”/NPCs featured in Dr. Mario World have their own lives and likely did pursue a career in the medical field, some of them maybe even becoming a doctor before Dr. Mario. They’re also not the same “generic enemy”/NPC that’s playable/featured in other games. This includes:

Dr. Yoshi (debatable)

Dr. Toad

Dr. Toadette

Dr. Luma (debatable)

Dr. “Kamek” (likely just another Magikoopa and not the Kamek)

Dr. Lakitu

Dr. Goomba Tower (debatable)

Dr. Koopa Troopa

Dr. Boo (they could have been a doctor before they died, or they could have used their afterlife to become a doctor- see below.)

Since Dry Bowser and King Boo are deceased and literally have all the time in the world, they could go to medical school anytime they want and become a doctor as a means to do something with their afterlife. (Good for Bowser and King Boo for not letting something like death stop them from pursuing their dreams.) 

Everyone else featured in Dr. Mario World is not a doctor.

Peach, Daisy, and Rosalina are too busy with their lives to pursue a medical career. (Bowser also fits this category.) (EDIT: Peach, Daisy, and Bowser also probably wouldn’t need to become a doctor. They’re monarchs; they could have doctors at their beck and call.)

There likely aren’t any medical schools on Kong Island, so Donkey Kong can’t pursue a medical career. (And I don’t think he wants to.) (Yoshi could also fit this category, if the one featured in Dr. Mario World lives on the secluded Yoshi’s Island.) (Same with the Luma, if they decided to remain in space instead of come down to Earth to pursue a medical career.)

Bowser, Waluigi, and Nabbit are villains and likely don’t want to pursue a career that involves helping people. That, and it’s too much work. Alternatively, in Waluigi and Nabbit’s case, they could have wanted to pursue a medical career but didn’t have enough money to begin medical school.

Blooper, Dolphin, and Piranha Plant are wild animals. Wild animals don’t pursue medical careers, they’re concerned with surviving and reproducing. (The Goombas mentioned above could arguably fit this category too, as they were described as wild animals in Super Mario Odyssey.)

Bowser Jr., the Koopalings, Diddy Kong, and all “Baby” characters are not doctors. I don’t think I have to explain why.

Unrelated but I think all “Baby” characters featured in the spinoffs (Dr. Mario World, Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, Mario Super Sluggers, etc.) aren’t actually the baby versions of the characters they’re based on. They’re just snot-nosed entitled brats pretending to be the real thing. And I hate them.

U know what I live for?? Fun characterization of the Mario Bros characters

(Headcanons for my imaginary super Mario bro’s cartoon that i would make if I had control over a cartoon newtwork)

Mario:

-prankster but you wouldn’t think it from his reputation

-he’s a good guy, but he’s got a small habit of creating mischief

-cares about his little Bro, more than anything. He’d do anything for Luigi and vice versa. If he’s ever in trouble, Mario drops everything to go help

-does get a bit tired of saving the day sometimes

-likes Peach, but isn’t sure he’s ready to be official king of the kingdom. Saving the day all the time is already a lot, but being king?

-Doesn’t mind hanging around with Bowser on off days, he’s the only one besides Daisy to really match Mario in competitiveness

Luigi:

-still a bit of a scaredy cat, but doesn’t cower behind his brother(most of the time)

-sticks up for Mario, but has a harder time sticking up for himself

-loves Pulterpup, the only ghost he isn’t too afraid of

-likes to play sports, tennis especially (turns out having really long legs and being good at running counts for something)

-likes to watch cheesy romcoms with Mario

-Stress bakes in the middle of the night

-(I want them to have bunk beds, but I can’t really see them sharing a room but if they did Luigi would have bottom bunk)(because Mario’s short enough that his head won’t bonk the ceiling and Luigi is afraid of falling off)

-Likes Daisy but is too shy to say anything, yet also super oblivious and totally unaware to notice that she likes him back

Peach:

-more relaxed, she has been running the Mushroom Kingdom for a while.

-Mario does save her on a monthly basis, but she can handle herself.

-idk if I want the whole ‘Bowser kidnap thing’ to be taken seriously. Like I’d rather it be a job obligation or something, rather than him liking her

-doesn’t hate Bowser? He actually has really good fashion advice and is a good father. They probably gossip and watch movies when she’s “kidnapped”

-likes Mario but isn’t sure if he really likes her, or if he’s just playing up the hero persona because she’s a princess

-learns to be more down to earth from the Bros.

-doesn’t always wear dresses, when she can get away with it

Daisy:

-more wild than Peach, in that she’s always up for adventure

-wouldn’t get kidnapped often, is known for annoying the kidnappers to the point where they bring her back

-dresses are to constricting, she prefers a nice pair of shorts or pants, sometimes a skirt

-likes Luigi, but isn’t sure if he likes her back because he’s very quiet and shy about his feelings

-Can sucker punch like the best of them

-has absolutely ROCKED Bowser’s shit once, and he has been somewhat afraid of her ever since

-Is Mario’s 2nd best friend after Luigi, they really tend to let loose and get competitive when they’re together, which often gets them in trouble and leads to Peach/Luigi having to bail them out of it

-Isn’t great at the whole princess thing, not considered as regal as Peach, and sometimes she’s jealous (little does she know, Peach is jealous of her adventurous spirit)

-watches Pulterpup when Mario and Luigi are out of town on business

Bowser:

-good dad™️

-(srlsy hes such a good dad you guys)

-invites the Bros+princesses etc to his kids extracurriculars(ie sports etc)

-shows off stuff the Koopalings made during fights or when he’s hanging with the squad

-(look I just want him to be friends with Mario and the gang is that too much to ask???)

-would fight god for his kids

-is a surprisingly good cook??

-lets Mario and Lugig babysit

-Isnt necessarily a villain, idk how to explain him kidnapping Peach every other week but it’s less of a creepy romance thing and more of a “sorry about this lol yknow how it is” thing. They just hang out anyways

Extra headcanons:

-Uhh they all have movie nights (Daisy always picks action movies, Mario likes comedys, Peach likes dramas, and Luigi likes romcoms, but will put on cartoons) (scary movies are banned when Luigi is involved (Mario also gets spooked by them but would rather die then admit it)

-Mario’s room is a cluttered mess of old knickknacks and stuff while Luigi’s is carefully organized to a fault, everything has a place

-Pulterpup sleeps on Luigi’s bed

-Super Mario party game nights every month, in which everyone’s invited. Mario Daisy and Bowser get too competitive while Peach and Luigi sip their tea and watch the chaos

-they all make hot coca and watch Christmas movies during the holidays.

-Peach-being a princess and usually being cooped up in the castle- has a hundred odd hobbies. She’s probably sewn their entire friend group at least 3 sweaters or scarves by now

-Daisy goes through sneakers like crazy, she does a lot of running around

-If some big villain or enemy showed up, threatening the mushroom kingdom and the gang, Bowser would immediately turn and fight alongside the bros+ princesses. Like this is his home too!

-It’s very common to see the group, at one particular restaurant in town. Sure it’s startling to visitors, to see the so called ‘big boss Bowser’ competing with the hero Mario to see who can eat the most, and Luigi sitting with Peach and Daisy asking about how running their kingdoms are going. But most citizens are used to it

-Polterpup takes a strange liking to Bowser. He can probably sense that Bowser spends a lot of time around other ghouls and monsters. Bowser isn’t fazed but he does give the ghost dog a good scratch behind the ears when he sees him.

-Mario has such dad vibes, like he drinks black coffee in the mornings and if he sits down to watch a movie, he’ll fall asleep in the first 20 minutes lol

-Peach and Daisy have sleepovers and talk relationship advice about the Bros, completely unaware that the Mario and Luigi are definitely doing the same thing

-Seriously though, their dancing around each other is ridiculous. Mario and Peach will watch Luigi and Daisy and agree that they both obviously like each other, while ignoring their own romantic energy and right vice versa for Luigi and Daisy

-Bowser is in third wheel hell essentially, at this point he’s rooting for Mario and Peach to get together just to get it over with all the ridiculous pining
