Well hi! I just want to know do you have any more Warren Worthington the third stuff? Maybe more head cannons?
Ooo that i do. I'm actually doing a rewrite project for the X-Men that doesnt stick to a sliding timescale, so i'll talk about my rewrite Warren. please note i have only just gotten to the 90s era so i am in no way a Warren expert;
-i dont have a ref sheet for my design of his costumes yet, but the older he gets, the more eye motifs show up. like, the older he gets and the more shit he goes through, the more biblically accurate of an angel he gets. also Archangel's voice is slightly layered, its more obvious when hes yelling. just a little unsettling in the big, probably echoey halls of the X-Factor ship.
-Back in the O5, he and Beast were the team medics. Hank for his pre-existing interest and knowledge of medical/science/genetics, and Warren bc wings make it easier to transport the injured and fly over battlefields to get to them quicker.
-He has bird traits for days, he absolutely makes blanket nests on his bed but sleeps sprawled on his stomach so his wings have room. He does that full-body bird shake when he gets wet, and he coos like a pigeon when hes happy, kind of like purring (i love a purring hc, he is not the last mutant i give purring to). as a kid pre-wings, he also made blanket nests but always had to undo them bc his parents didnt like him having a 'messy' room.
-Trans Man. Figured it out around 11-12 but hid it from his parents. when his wings came in, he hid both things. however, when the X-Men took him in when he was 15~ in like 1972, that gave him the support system and catch net to risk coming out as a trans man to his parents. they were supportive as far as 'we are a rich family and now we get an eldest son to pass on the name and buisness'. He hadn't picked a proper name, he was masc nickname of his birthname, but his dad insisted that he take the Warren family name, as his dad was Warren Jr and his granddad was Warren Sr. His parents basically paid news sources off to be like 'what? no we've always had a son'. He used part of his inheritance to fund his transition, and also Bobby's. He was outed by the media during the whole "publically outed as the angel while hes actively dying from gangrene in a hospital bed" thing post-Massacre. a real double whammy of outed as a mutant and a trans man, which in 1984~ was a considerably larger deal.
-Speaking of the Massacre, Remy finds him instead of Thor, bc why the fuck is Thor involved. in my rewrite the x-men have some kids by this point, so Amiko, Kirika (Logan's kid w/ Mariko), and Talia (Kurt's kid w/ Amanda who is a seperate woman from Jimaine and unrelated to Kurt) are down in the tunnels with the Power Pack and Franklin when the Massacre happens. Remy rescues Sarah during the massacre, and finds the three mutant girls in the area Warren was pinned to the wall in while looking for survivors, Sabretooth attacks them, Remy fights him off, and carries Warren until they find Bobby and X-Factor. Warren is like totally out of it so he doesnt quite remember Remy himself but he does remember the red eyes. adds an extra spice to whenever the x-men find out Remy unintentionally helped cause the Massacre in the first place, bc now Remy both caused and saved Warren from demise. (also Remy doesn't appear for another like 5 years in the rewrite, but Warren remembers him bc in his pained delirium he thought Remy was a demon coming to finish the job)
-yknow how Logan is way heavier than he looks bc his bones are adamantium? yeah Warren has the opposite of that. he canonically has hollow bones and almost no body fat, so while he SHOULD be like 150lbs he'd actually weigh like 110lbs. so, not like feather light or anything but unnervingly easy to pick up compared to how he actually looks.
-i like to think that at some point pre-apocalypse (or post-getting-his-wings-back, if that happens) he goes off on a solo career for a while and accidentally causes a legend of an angel who visits sites of tragedy as a healer. bc he kept visiting sites of tragedy as a healer and helping people, as is his nature. you can take the boy out of the x-men but you can't take the x-men out of the boy
-in my rewrite, following the death of his father and mother, Warren asks Charles to legally adopt him as an adult. like those videos of step-kids asking their step-fathers. this also has the funny side effect of Warren being on the line of inheritance for the Xavier wealth. never beating the rich boy allegations.
-honestly i see him as like, asexual. or acespec in some way, he strikes me as a romantic playboy not a sexual playboy. but given that he was born in like 1957 in my rewrite (x-men #1 starts in 1974) he conforms to whats expected of him. he has complicated feelings about being Archangel, but not having to live up to the playboy thing is a silent relief he'll only ever admit to his O5.
-i really want to give him an adopted kid who also has wings, give that man a hatchling. would he be good at parenting? probably not, especially not during his Archangel thing, but thats the fun of it. i think being forced to care for a small helpless winged being, mutant child or actual bird, to process his feelings towards himself and his childhood would probably help him in some way.
-i am looking for every oppurtunity to give this man four wings. theres a whole mutant biology life stage thing i've made for my rewrite where when they hit 60 they have a chance of developing new powers or upgrading their mutation, and if i can get this bastard to live long enough to hit 60 (which, by my timeline, will be in the 2010s) he is absolutely growing a second set of wings. maybe also eyes. fuck him up a little.
-He runs ice cold while hes Archangel. presuming they eventually fix the whole blue skin horseman thing, he will run a lot colder than he used to and his wings get fluffier. so, he goes from like a thrush/dove pre-apocalypse to like a snowy owl/harpy eagle post-apocalypse. evolving character designs to show the progression of life events my beloved. also post-horseman recovery his veins are far bluer and more visible around his hands and neck/jaw, makes him look a bit like a corpse.
"Angel doesn't understand what Laura's been through -"
The experiences of Laura's early life? No, he doesn't. But the thing is, only Logan understands what Laura suffered for the first thirteen years of her life.
What Angel understands, however, is being the object of lust.
"Angel hasn't been through that much -"
You mean that getting kidnapped by Callisto of the Morlocks, chained to a wall in the sewers with no article of clothing aside from a loincloth, and knowing that he's about be forced into a marriage that would involve marital rape and sexual abuse from this non-consensual union, amounts to nothing?
"He could have been able to fight back -"
Callisto's mutant powers make her an animalistic hunter in human form. She's possibly stronger than him, and even if she isn't, Callisto has an entire enclave at her beck and call. She could whistle up one of them to subdue or otherwise recapture Angel if he tried escaping. Moreover, while he'll fight back, at the end of the day Angel would be more than a little displeased with having to take such measures, and if not for the other X-Men running to save him, would have been trapped in a hellhole for a long time.
"He still doesn't know what it's like to have a bad life -"
So having his former college roommate and friend Cameron Hodge kill his longtime girlfriend, amputate his wings against his will, and push him onto the path that led to the horrendous Archangel saga and the abuse he would soon suffer as a result of the Archangel madness, all because he lusted for Angel despite Angel being straight as an arrow, doesn't give Angel an idea of what it's like to have one's life ruined?
"He can't handle a woman being stronger than him -"
Angel's girlfriend from the nineties was a black cop single mother whose cop husband died during a drug war shootout. She broke Angel out of his Archangel madness after he had witnessed her traumatic memories of the day her husband died. He still dated and supported her with this in mind in spite of it all, and only stopped dating her when it became clear to him that his own trauma from Apocalypse and the Archangel brainwashing would bring her down in the process. And if that's not enough, recall that his other significant girlfriend was none other than Psylocke/Betsy Braddock, whose telepathic and telekinetic abilities make her the equal of any man on the field of battle in the Marvel Universe. Angel can genuinely handle his girlfriend being more "powerful" than him, modern writers just don't recognize this because they do no research on him.
"He always gets it easy otherwise -"
When the Archangel persona once more brainwashed/corrupted Angel's mind, he ended up having a fling (which could also possibly be regarded as rape given he was NOT in control of himself), and resulted in the newest Horseman of Pestilence becoming smugly pregnant with his twins.
Against Angel/Warren Worthington III's wishes, because he had no control over his body and real self at that time.
In an alternate timeline, Angel was literally forced into marriage with Xavier and Lilandra's insane daughter who decided to follow in her aunt Deathbird's footsteps and become a tyrant. She took over Earth as well, murdered half of the X-Men/other Earth heroes, killed her father (and Angel's mentor from his teenage years), and proceeded to subjugate his homeworld while he could do NOTHING.
If anything, Warren Worthington III is the only other man and person in the Marvel Universe who has an INKLING of what Laura Kinney has suffered.
Did the writers of the Angel/Laura run mishandle the relationship? I don't doubt it, but I also highly doubt that Angel was spared many details of the future in store for him when Jean Grey heard of what she would end up committing in the future.
If you don't like the Angel/Laura ship, fine. I'm not asking you to.
I'm just sick of Angel's own trauma being brushed aside simply because he's a man and because his romance with Laura wasn't done well.
Don't like this? Just move along.
Enjoy this? Thank you for coming and reading. It means a lot to me.
