Idk American system is better. 😈
I think X-Men Evolution is the X-Men show appreciate most (despite still not liking every episode) because it feels like a revamped take on the one X-Men era I enjoyed: the original 60s era. That era works for me in a way no other era does. I like the lack of large scale villains (the x-men didn't really fight Galactus scale villains, and I was fine with that). I liked this era in a way I can't quite explain. But no other x-men era gets it's vibes down quite right. X-Men evolution proposes making some of the later 70s X-Men into teens like the o5, which works for me. Kind of wish the actual comics took that route, though. And I wish they didn't use world shattering threats like Apocalypse. The X-Men can just be the middleground between the global scale heroes and the more street level heroes. With how much Apocalypse and his ilk bores me, Magneto and his Brotherhood might be the only major X-Men villains who consistently interest me.
I've made like five posts recently all articulating the same point. I don't know how to feel about that, but I personally find it easier to deal with these posts than to deal with remembering my real world issues and stressors and completely losing focus to panic about them. That's worse than just repeating tiresome old thoughts over and over again, I suppose. Even if the old thoughts really are tiresome sometimes. That's a tangent that adds a more sour note to this post, but oh well. It's better for me to get this off my chest, I suppose.
When's coming out Chapter 29 of 'Lighting bug'?
I miss itttt
I am about half way through it.
Hopefully posting it by the end of this weekend!
Sorry for the wait but Lightning Bug is not going anywhere.
The Marvels Spoiler
That one scene where we see Carol through the eyes of Dar-Benn, the day Captain Marvel became their "Annihilator". The way we linger on her, eyes glowing, not speaking, she almost looks like a predator or a weapon. She seeks threats to destroy. She's scary.
I loved it. Give me more ominous super-heroes. Give me heroes ready to kill or dismember their enemies to neutralize them. Sure, make them feel guilty afterwards and even horrified of what they did if you want. But make them capable of it.
Super-heroes who, if they decided to change sides, would be walking nightmares.
For the fmk
Good luck 😁
fuck: nat
marry: wanda
kill: valkyrie (i am sorry she is not my type.. like i’d be friends with her tho… but i think she’d probably just think i was nice and that’s it LOL)
my thoughts on shang chi as a chinese
- i nearly broke down and cried at the scene when shang chi was teaching katy how to pronounce his name. it wasn’t over and done in two seconds but repeatedly to make sure that she got the intonation of the words right. like what wenwu says, names are sacred. i am a person who goes by my chinese name in 90% of my life and i pull out a chosen english name when needed to (i.e. i’m in a predominantly white country and it’s too much effort to keep repeating my name over and over again, at starbucks lol etc.)
- if i had a dollar for every time one of my parents said ‘i’ve eaten salt more than you’ve had rice in your life’, i’d be rich. how valuable was it to have such an everyday chinese saying in a blockbuster movie and so authentically
- that being said, i enjoyed having close to half of the movie in chinese. it wasn’t a token chinese or asian language line where you could establish that the characters were POC but because the story is rooted in the chinese culture and a chinese family, why wouldn’t they speak chinese to each other? even after establishing that they could, they didn’t switch to english fully but bantered back and forth in both, which is what i do too in my home
- also authentic chinese accents? bless
- the tribute paid to the old hk and china movies in the scene where wenwu went to avenge ying li. the oversized blazer? the rolled up sleeves? the hair? the chinese gambling den? chef’s kiss
- oh lordy if i didn’t have a heart attack from everything that came before, watching tony leung and michelle yeoh face off gave me life. i only wish i had more
- that being said, the idea of family is so entrenched in the story and in our culture. shang chi calling katy’s mom and grandma aunty and grandma? that’s what we do. i may not be related to my friend’s parents but they’re all aunty uncle grandpa grandma to me we’re just a huge extended family
- the need for xialing to prove herself? not being allowed to train but learning and doing it better. the chinese patriarchy is so strong i can scream but she’s proven that she’s up there with everyone else
- also hello at jon jon yelling ‘wakao’ the min the doors open cause i swear like that almost everyday in my life i see you SEAsian ronny chieng
- i nearly hurt myself laughing at wenwu explaining iron man 2′s fiasco at appropriating the ten rings and mandarin name. it just reminds me of how much white people don’t understand the chinese tattoos they get something. a good resolution and a humorous approach to it
- all these chinese actors/actresses have me by the throat and i love it
