Does anyone know if we’re doing Maultober again this year? Or are we just using last year’s (or the year before?) prompt list?

A learning experience
Maultober! Day 2: Librarian AU.
It was supposed to be a quick training exercise: get into the building and get out again without being detected. Maul had found an unguarded access hatch easily enough; his size made it easier to wriggle into places that most people considered too small to notice.
Once inside, however, he quickly became distracted. The ceilings were so high he almost expected to see clouds drifting overhead. Colorful murals lined the walls, and it was while following one of them to try and understand the story that he found The Room.
He took a cautious step into the open doorway and stared, mouth dropping open. The room contained shelf after shelf after shelf of datacubes, racks of datapads, and even what he recognized as old hardcopy books. His fingers brushed against a shelf and he flinched, taking a wild look around him. He hadn’t meant to come in! No one was in sight, though, and even the Force (which he wasn’t supposed to use) was quiet. He touched the shelf again, running his hand along the stacks of cubes and reading all the information bars.
Geography. History. Architecture. Engineering. A wealth of information, literally at his fingertips, and there was no one around to punish him for reading outside his assigned works.
No one except his Master, waiting outside for his speedy return.
Maul trembled in place, imagining the punishment awaiting him. He was LATE. He was lollygagging. He reached up to touch his throat, wondering if lollygagging was as bad as it sounded.
The smart thing to do would be to leave now. He’d be punished, but the longer he waited the worse it would be. His feet, however, seemed rooted to the spot, disobeying his commands to run.
For the first time in his life he considered... disobeying. His body shook, and he was alarmed to feel wetness leaking from his eyes. He wiped at them, furious. Crying was a sign of weakness and he was not weak!
As he lingered there, disobeying his Master’s orders, he could almost imagine voices whispering in his ear, encouraging him.
You could stay. Your Master can’t punish you if he can’t find you. Maybe you could learn something that would please him. You could stay. There’s no pain here, only knowledge. No one can stop you, not even Him. You could stay...
He grabbed what he could and ran deeper into the room, squeezing into a dusty corner between two towering cases. Once he had things arranged to his liking, he ventured out to acquire one of the reading units he’d seen.
Three times he saw people and three times he avoided them. The readers were wired into their terminals, but with a little careful application of previous lessons, Maul soon managed to detach one to take back to his hiding spot. His Master would be pr- no, his Master would be furious, and his hearts hammered at the thought, but he still crammed himself back into the hidden cubby and began to read. And read.
He wasn’t sure how much time passed before he looked up and found an old human woman watching him.
“So that’s where it got to,” she said.
Maul yelled, flinging the reader at her through the narrow gap in the shelves before forcing his own way out. The edges scraped him raw and he banged his head hard enough to make himself dizzy, but then he was out and running. Only to be caught and lifted off the floor by invisible hands.
“Now, now, there’s no need for that,” the woman said as Maul thrashed and screamed. “We prefer quiet in my library, if you please.”
Terror flooded him as he realized this woman was going to punish him. He’d stolen datacubes! He’d sabotaged equipment! And then when she was done with him, she’d hand him over to his Master and the REAL punishment would begin. His limbs locked up and he wondered if he was going to die.
The woman had moved around in front of him, her expression going from stern to puzzled, and then softening into something he couldn’t recognize.
“There, there, little one,” she said, setting his feet back on the floor. “I’m not going to hurt you.”
Maul knew better than to believe her, but even with the pressure gone from around him his legs felt too wobbly to run. She knelt before him, gnarled hands on her thighs.
“Can you tell me your name?”
His throat locked up. Was she choking him already? She lunged for him and he couldn’t move. Her arms wrapped around him. Crushing! Strangling! Except... No, the pressure around him was tight, but not painful. Not yet. He felt himself being lifted again, this time in her arms. She grunted as she stood, as if she were the one in pain, but that didn’t make any sense. She was still supporting him and his head came to rest against her shoulder almost of its own volition. It felt so heavy. Even his eyelids felt heavy. He trembled, waiting for the hurting to begin, but instead she rubbed a hand up and down his back.
“It’s alright, little one,” she said, and this close up her voice seemed to fill the world. “You’re safe here, don’t worry.”
The backrub felt... good. Warming. And less... tense? His eyes didn’t want to stay open. He reached up, clutching at her robe as his breath hitched in his chest.
“That’s it, let it out,” the woman murmured. Maul could feel hot tears bursting from his eyes, uncontrollable.
“Don’t worry,” she said again, rocking him back and forth. “I’ll keep you safe. You’ll always be safe in my library.”
And for once, Maul believed her.
01. Disguise
Raze was still kind of tripped out that he had managed to convince Maul to wear some glitter.
“It’ll make it look like the rest of your markings are paint, too!” he had said, which just happened to be the truth. It wasn’t an elaborate disguise or anything, but it was a disguise, and this was the perfect night to use it on Darkknell.
Now, Maul was sitting crosslegged in front of him on the aisle of the Nest and Raze was carefully applying a sort of red-orange-gold fine glitter to the red parts of his cheeks. Sitting over against the lockers, Tango was watching; since Maul had his eyes closed, face still, Raze tipped a wink to his brother, who was probably enjoying the view.
Tango rolled his eyes, still kinda in a snit about the whole Darkknell thing, but he did it with his cheeks flushed and a tiny, sheepish smile.
“I gotta black glitter pen, too,” Raze said, turning his attention back to his Lieu, using a small brush to apply the makeup. Maul didn’t seem to mind it, even though Raze was pretty much in his face. “I can do the black parts.”
Maul quirked his brows, that kinda easy-going facial shrugs. “If you want to.”
Raze grinned at that. “Consider you my canvas, Lieu?”
“In the name of the disguise only,” Maul said back, with a lopsided little grin of his own.
hi! Maultober's #20 is missing :) don't know if it's on purpose :)
you know, i was looking at it this morning looking for the specific prompt that was missing and going “why isn’t here???” and yep, its was missing, fixed it (the prompt is Jedi Maul btw)
I’m sorry everyone for it not being ink (or even a recent piece rip me), but I love Kilindi so much and I couldn’t stand her being dead so? She lived and got to be a successful bounty hunter while helping slaves on the side and she adopted two kids and was very cool
