The Double Bass with Zoe Johnson / Day 2.
Kol Nidrei by Max Bruch
Though yesterday I talked about a more modern piece, today I’m going to dial it back to a more traditional piece. The Kol Nidrei (ָכּל ִנְדֵרי) is a prayer traditionally sang by Jews on Yom Kippur to represent atonement. Though generally played instrumentally on cello, it is commonly adapted for double bass as well - though I might be a tad biased, I prefer the sound of a bass for this particular piece. The cello/bass part for Kol Nidre is written by Max Bruch, though the video linked here is performed and arranged by Matthew McDonald (accompanied by pianist Tamako Takahashi.)
