[A/N] Received a Part Three request for this before any Part Two's had come out 😅 Haven't posted as a reply as it was quite long, I will past the ask later on today. Hope you all enjoy it and thank you as always for the request 😘
It’s been seven months since you entered a relationship with Natasha and Wanda. They don’t like referring to you as a ‘third’ anymore because you’re as equal in the relationship as they are. As far as they’re both concerned the relationship is going well. Although they haven’t said it out loud yet they’re falling in love with you and they both adore you.
For you… It’s a little more complicated.
Although you love them both you’re really struggling with being the one who entered the relationship later. Their initial rejection had stayed with you and every so often you found yourself worrying they secretly regretted changing their minds but they were in too deep now to tell you. At first those thoughts had been fleeting, quickly squashed by Natasha wrapping her arms around you and kissing your cheek, or by Wanda asking you if you’ve eaten today then immediately making you food when you tell her you’d forgotten.
Everything had begun to fall apart when they were sent on that first mission without you.
They’d asked if you could come but had been warned it would be too complicated. The newer Avengers were to hold down the fort in the compound while the more experienced Avengers went to fight. Initially you were okay – it gave you a chance to catch up properly with Kate and to focus on your training again. But as the days went by the insecurity began to seep deeper and deeper.
When Natasha and Wanda finally return home they’re both exhausted and don’t have much time for you. By the time they’ve recovered sufficiently they’re sent on their next mission. You keep checking your phone obsessively while they’re away, wanting updates, reassurance. The rational part of you knows they’re too busy to reply but you begin to think they’re enjoying being away from you. That they can pretend they’re still just a couple. You push yourself harder than ever in training, wanting to be able to join them on their missions. Maybe if you were with them, you wouldn’t feel so goddamn insecure.
After five back to back missions Wanda and Natasha are more exhausted than usual. They both climb into bed without so much as a hello. You want to crawl in between them. Even if you could just lie with them that would be something, an opportunity to feel close to them. You’re too nervous though. What if they don’t want you there? So you sit across the room, scrolling through your phone, simply waiting for them to wake up.
Wanda stirs first and smiles at you, rubbing her eyes “God, I feel like I’ve been hit by a truck.”
“Do you need to go to the medbay?”
Wanda shakes her head, sitting up “I’ll be okay, the sleep did me good.” She holds her arms out “Come here baby. I missed you.”
Normally her words would make you feel warm inside but that seed of doubt has bloomed, making you worry she’s lying. Regardless, you cross the room and sink into her arms. She smiles, kissing the top of your head. Next to you both Natasha awakens and she reaches over to squeeze your thigh, mumbling “Hey baby.”
Wanda holds you close, stroking a hand through your hair but you’re still on edge. You want to ask them if they have any regrets – but you don’t want to put them off by sounding too needy. You’re caught between a rock and a hard place. Neither woman suspects anything is wrong as Natasha sits up to join in the hug. Both of them press kisses to your face but even that doesn’t make you feel better.
Natasha squeezes your bicep “Damn Y/N, you’ve been hitting the gym hard.”
You nod “Yeah, I… I don’t like being left behind.”
Wanda chuckles, pressing another affectionate kiss to your cheek “You’re not missing much. You’ll definitely be ready for the more complicated missions soon though.”
“You’re safer here though.” Natasha says, unable to help herself from running her fingers up and down your muscly arm.
Natasha’s words make you feel worse and determination hardens in your chest. Why don’t they want you to join them? You’re not going to be left behind on the next mission – you’ll work your ass off so you can join them.
A few weeks later your hard work pays off. When the next mission is called Steve puts forward a case, citing your training and the improvements you’ve made so Fury agrees you can join the others. Kate is proud of you even though she’s still waiting for her call. Before you climb onto the Quinjet she gives you a big hug “Good luck! Not that you need it. You’re pretty much the strongest Avenger now.”
“Oh please-”
“I’m serious. Yeah, yeah, Steve has the super serum; this is pure hard work though.” Kate says, squeezing your bicep.
You roll your eyes but can’t help smiling “Glad you have such faith in me.”
“You’re gonna do great. Just make sure you don’t get hurt too bad. Preferably at all but I know missions are- I’m rambling, sorry.” Kate gives you one more hug “Good luck!”
You climb onto the Quinjet, buzzing with a mixture of excitement and nerves for your first proper Avengers mission. At first you’re not sure what to do but you see the others getting their gear ready so you start doing the same. Wanda and Natasha are talking quietly to each other and you feel a stab of anxiety. Why aren’t they including you? It’s your first proper mission; shouldn’t they be giving you a pep talk? Making sure you’re not too nervous? Neither of them even looks over as you continue quietly preparing alone.
It’s a bit of a long ride and when you make it you’re dropped into the middle of a battlefield. There’s no time for proper briefings or to adjust, just straight into the action. You’re a good shot but your forte is definitely your strength as you take out hostile after hostile, shielding the civilians you’re evacuating with quick efficiency.
The mission is going well until you’re suddenly knocked off your feet – for a moment you’re winded and too stunned to move so one of them takes the opportunity to land a few good punches on you. You groan as you struggle to fight back, your head reeling from the attack. They’re suddenly flung across the battle field and Wanda is by your side “Y/N? Y/N, are you okay?”
“We need a medic, now!” Natasha calls out, appearing on your other side “Are you okay baby?”
You blink at them both, still feeling a little stunned as you’re transported back to the Quinjet. You sit up, your head thumping as you press a hand to your forehead “I’m fine- I can still fight, I-”
“All the civilians have been evacuated and the rest of the hostiles are being arrested.” Wanda reassures you “Just lie back down, everything’s going to be-”
“No!” You suddenly snap “Stop pretending to care about me. You both wish I hadn’t come. I should just stay back at the compound forever, right?”
Natasha frowns “Wait, what?”
“What are you talking about?” Wanda asks, running her fingers through your hair “Of course we-”
“You regret letting me into this relationship. I know you do.” You turn your head away, an angry expression setting on your face “I don’t know why you’re suddenly pretending to give a damn about me after all this time when you-”
“What the fuck are you talking about?” Natasha snaps “We’ve done nothing but try and make you feel secure-”
“Oh really?” You sneer bitterly.
“Yes! We’re constantly telling you how much we care about you-”
“You never say you love me though.”
“Well right now I fucking don’t!”
There’s an awkward silence and then Wanda says in a quieter tone “She didn’t mean that. No, we haven’t said it yet but then neither have you.”
“You want me to look an idiot and say it first.”
“You’re so fucking childish.” Natasha says, folding her arms “We literally agreed from the start that this is only going to work if we all communicate and now you’re throwing a tantrum over nothing.”
“You’re not communicating with me, you just go off on your missions and don’t text or call or-”
“We were working.” Wanda says, looking crestfallen “Y/N, come on, be reasonable-”
You’re past being reasonable. You’re still winded and hurting from the sudden attack, and your girlfriends’ angry faces aren’t helping your insecurity “Just say you regret being with me.”
“We don’t!” Natasha snaps “Why are you-”
“Stop lying!”
“We’re not! Y/N, this is so stupid-”
“I know you regret letting me in, you wish it was just the two of you-”
“It was a lot simpler when it was just two of us, to be honest.” Wanda hisses.
None of you says anything for a long moment before Natasha takes Wanda’s hand, pressing a kiss to it “Come on Wands. Let’s give Y/N some space.”
They both walk away and you have to blink back tears. You don’t want space. You want them to hold you, to comfort you, to tell you missions will get easier after this, that the first one is always the hardest. That they love you, that of course they don’t regret letting you in, that the relationship is better with you around. But you’ve blown it – you’d been too needy, too childish and now they were definitely going to break up with you. You sniffle like a small child, quickly turning your head away so no one sees. How could you have been so dumb?
Natasha and Wanda continue to give you space when you all arrive back at the compound. You return to your own room, crawling straight into bed. Kate had caught up to you in the hallway, wanting to hear how your first mission had gone, gasping when she’d seen the bruises on your face. You’d blown her off, telling her you just wanted to rest. You pull the duvet over your head, trying to block out the rest of the world.
Time seems to come to a standstill as you lie there. You can’t remember the last time you felt so lonely – for the past couple of months you’ve been spending each night in Natasha and Wanda’s bed. Although it’s still early days and you haven’t officially moved into their room you might as well have given how much time you spend in there. You suddenly ache to lie in between them again, wanting their arms around you and their reassuring touches. Their missions had interrupted too much of your cuddle time with them and you bite back a sob.
It’s late when the door to your bedroom finally opens and you’re expecting Kate, probably with a glass of wine in hand. You’re not in the mood to talk to her so you keep your head buried in your pillow when you feel a hand on your shoulder “Baby…”
You tense as you hear Natasha’s voice, the anger from earlier replaced with softness. Another hand appears on your back and now you hear Wanda’s voice “We came to say sorry. Come get in bed with us.”
“And don’t say we don’t want you there.” Natasha teases lightly “Because of course we do.”
You sniffle and whisper “I thought you were getting sick of me.”
Natasha rolls her eyes and pulls you so your head is resting in her lap while Wanda gently strokes your hair “Talk to us. What made you think that?”
You hesitate and Wanda bends down to kiss your cheek “We overreacted earlier. Got too defensive. We’ve talked about it and... Maybe we haven’t been communicating as well as we could’ve, any of us. Let’s just say what we wanna say without judgement.”
“I-” You sit up, letting Natasha pull you into her lap as you think of what you want to say “You never called or text while you were away.”
“On the missions?” Wanda asks and you nod “The missions were… Crazy. It was constant fighting and getting rest when we could then our phones would die... It’s hard to keep in touch with loved ones.”
“We talked about you all the time though.” Natasha says “We’d see something that reminded us of you and even if we were mid-battle we’d still be on comms to tell each other. Everyone kept getting mad and teasing us.”
“You were barely home, I felt like you were avoiding me.”
“We were so tired sometimes we couldn’t think straight.” Wanda says “We always want you around.”
“You said you didn’t want me coming on missions.”
Natasha frowns “What? When?”
“We were talking about it and you said I was safer at home.”
Wanda sighs, running a hand through your hair “We didn’t mean it like that. We always want you near us but… Well, we know you can take care of yourself, you’ve got muscles bigger than Steve’s at this point and you’re a badass but you’re also our baby.”
“Yeah, that’s why we panicked when you got hurt.” Natasha kisses your forehead “If it were up to me, neither of you would go on missions, not you nor Wanda. I’d handle them all myself, feeling happy knowing you were safely at home. But I know you and Wanda can fight just as well, if not better, than I can and the Avengers need you both.”
You consider their words for a moment – you are a little younger than them both, only by a couple of years. It hadn’t crossed your mind that they considered you their ‘baby’. You can’t help liking the sound of that and you snuggle into Natasha’s arms. Wanda cuddles into your other side “We don’t regret starting a relationship with you. We…” Wanda glances at Natasha who nods “We love you.”
“We love you so much.” Natasha confirms, kissing the top of your head as her arms tighten around you “You’re our girl. Our baby.”
You look between them both, tears still spilling down your cheeks as you whisper “I love you too. I’m sorry for being so childish-”
“We all said stupid stuff.” Wanda says, wiping one of your stray tears “But we’re okay.”
“Come back to bed with us.” Natasha kisses your forehead again “It feels empty without you there.”
You nod, slowly climbing out of bed and letting them take your hands as you head back towards their room. That horrible feeling of doubt is still in your stomach but you feel it decreasing as Wanda squeezes your hand and Natasha gives you a fond smile. They came to find you. They want you to share their bed. They’d told you they loved you. With each affirmation you feel yourself relaxing, letting their love finally wash over you.
They really don’t regret letting you into this relationship. They really do love you. And you love them. As you crawl into the middle of the bed and feel their arms wrapping around you, you let yourself relax. This is what you’d been dreaming out. It’s finally come true. You’re their baby. And you wouldn’t trade that for anything in the world.
Just thinking about how Rocket got to fix Nebula's cybernetics in a way that he never got to do for his first friends.
He helped Nebula heal by removing the visible reminders of her trauma.
There were no longer obvious, unsightly and unnatural implants; evidence of what was done to her, but rather she now looked more like the person she was before she was changed. The one who was innocent and unburdened.
She no longer appeared as a product of someone's design, a product of failure, but as her own person. The person she has chosen to be. Someone very different from the person she was molded to be.
Lylla, Teefs and Floor never got to experience that kind of liberation. They never broke free from under their creator's thumb. And they would always bear the scars of what was done to them.

Chapter one (I’m assuming, I don’t think this thing is going to leave me alone) of the thing I said had been rattling around in my brain. Enjoy. Or don’t, I’m not your dad. But if you want more of it, yeah, let me know.
