‘Man is the only animal for whom his own existence is a problem which he has to solve.’ - Erich Fromm. Sometimes the question is more important than the answer. ‘Why we are here is an impenetrable question.’ - Edward Albee. There is no one answer to the question: ‘Why are we here?’ ‘The only true wisdom is in knowing that you know nothing.’ – Socrates. The key to life is the continual asking: ‘Why am I here?’ ‘Question everything. Learn something. Answer nothing.’ – Euripedes. There is no answer. ‘It is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.’ – Eugene Ionesco. It’s all about the question. There is great wisdom in the question. Over the years we will ask the same question in different ways. We may find an answer sometimes, but it is not a long-term answer. Life changes - we change, the answer changes but the question remains the same. ‘The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure.’ - Joseph Campbell. #meaning #meaningoflife #meaningfulquotes #problem #solved #questions #ask #life #lifequotes #lifelessons #lifeisbeautiful #words #wordsofwisdom #philosophy #existence #existentialism #books #bookstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CP7Su7fjpj2/?utm_medium=tumblr
Cats chase mice but don’t know what to do when they catch them😬 ✨ A similar concept applies to us, a lot of us have goals but when we achieve them we don’t know what to do next and this is because the goal isn’t the destination😅 ✨ The cat in this story found a sense of purpose being in the game of chasing the mouse, but as soon as he realised the chase was meaningless he stopped🤯 ✨ We are living lives a lot more diverse than the cat and mouse yet we can find ourselves perpetually chasing something that is meaningless - this is why we get stuck so often🥵 ✨ What if there was nothing to chase? What if there was nowhere else to be? What if the only purpose of our goals were to inspire us in this moment rather than being a place to get to?🤔 ✨ #goalsetting #goalgetter #lifepurpose #onpurpose #livingwell #livinglifetothefullest #slowliving #purposefulliving #purposefullife #purposeful #purposedrivenlife #purposedriven #purposeoflife #meaningful #meaningfulquotes #meaningoflife #meaningfullife #awakenedsoul (at London, Unιted Kingdom) https://www.instagram.com/p/CCRVHpPHzgD/?igshid=1pvlwjzb0nmpj
I create and experience meaning. I strive to cultivate gratitude that this random cosmic void has happened to bestow upon me a slice of space-time to bask in and make my own. I care because this is all we got. I didn’t choose to be thrown into existence. But here I am—and I’m going to make the most of it. I’m going to cross my fingers that I have made and will continue to make the world, in whatever tiny, insignificant, fleeting ways I can, a better place. Perhaps I can do this by extending a helping hand to a stranger in need, or providing a shoulder to cry on, or creating something beautiful, or saving the life of a wounded critter, or bringing smiles to the faces of loved ones, or, simply, taking a deep breath and enjoying a moment of unadorned contentedness. This is meaningful to me. Sure, my time here is finite, and because the universe at large is indifferent, I am inevitably facing (and have faced) much cruelty and suffering. But there’s also so much good out there, so much purpose to derive. For that, I am privileged and thankful, even if it will ultimately come to an end. It’s still real—profoundly, palpably, intensely real—while I’m here.
