I had a question for the soulmate au.

Did Robert go into a coma after the explosion (during the beginning) and if so did the soulmates feel something amiss?

Like a uncanny feeling that something is wrong?

OH I am frothing at the mouth at this! (This is positive!)

Like in the original game, Soulmate Robert did infact go into a coma but this one was riddled with many things being off or wrong. He actually had a much rougher time mid coma than anything than in og canon.

He was put as extremely high risk patient. Had round the clock care and had specialists briefly come in. I’m assuming Chase was Robert’s godfather/god uncle. So while he couldn’t visit him due to the hospital not allowing anybody for most of the coma due to trying to keep his immune system up.

They did call to ask Chase if he wanted to pull the plug after two Months and or if he knew any of the soulmates and they weren’t on record.

He answered the questions and managed to visit twice. Hence him getting Robert the job as Sdn as soon as possible. None while conscious though for Robert.

(Oops I rambled about Chase in this Au I haven’t mentioned his part too much in this Au yet XD)

Some side effects from the soul bonds were different like Prisms sight sharing activated but but only half heartedly since his brain wasn’t always active. So she couldn’t see anything.

Prism assumed he was dead and that she was just seeing from the dead eyes. (Not all soul bonds/marks types are researched well due to the pure variety in universe) so some soulmates aren’t always sure their soulmate is dead when the connection is pulled taunt and or gone.

Like the coma, the bar scene is part of this actually! Everybody felt their soulmate wake up and was so relieved they went out to splurge at the hero bar.

When a soulmate is really gone, there is usually a pretty clear moment where it hits them. But they don’t know until it happens. So anxiety is a huge thing because they worry they missed the passing of their soulmate a lot. Prism suffers form separation anxiety I believe of a sort triggered by this.

So excellent question! Yes some of the soulmates did infact think Robert died. Like Prism and Sonar in particular. I’ve not yet talked about Sonars part but he’s coming up soon.

I think my favourite dynamic between Prism and Robert, ship or not (which btw what's the official ship name? Mechaprism? Prismech? Ledlights? Tecnicolor?? i dunno) would be "coworkers/friends that are also mutual fans of their work"

Like Prism is a Blazer girlie first and foremost, but she's also a Mecha Fan to some degree. When the clip of Robert beating the living shit out of the reporter gets posted on socials, Prism is on the frontline defending him and arguing in the comments section with people who say his reaction "Was totally uncalled for" "Guy spitted on Mecha Man's whole damn career because he didn't fucking die like some kinda martyr! Bitch took out his damn phone, typed the damn number, said 'Hey, go fuck yourself', ended the damn call and didn't expect Mecha Man to call him back?! 'Uncalled for' my ass!". And like part of that is because she likes the guy but also, as a famous popstar that also has dealt with asshole journalists, she empathizes with him.

She later makes a post that says "He was so real for that btw", followed by the same clip but with one of her songs playing in the background. It's surprisingly on beat with the scuffle.

Robert obviously didn't know who she was before working at SDN, and he strikes me as someone that doesn't listen to music that often, so it takes some prodding from Prism (and Flambae, always gotta support your bestie) for him to start listening to some of her songs. Needless to say, he becomes a fan. He hums her songs while walking with Beef and while working, which he obviously he gets teased for by both the team and Chase but honestly? He likes it, so who cares? Prism is openly smug to everyone about that, while also kinda giddy on the inside cause oh my god Mecha Man likes my music!

At some point, while going thorugh her previous albums, he finds a music video where Prism raps about the most famous superheroes in Torrence she would fuck. Was the video made before or after she joined the Phoenix Program? The choice is yours. Not only that, each hero gets their segment sung while Prism wears an outfit based on them.*

Surprise surprise, Mecha Man is in that too, which is both flattering in a way, and also mindopening in another, "Wait, is that where the #RidingThatMechaDick that trended three weeks comes from??"

Also, they have merch of each other, obviously. Robert is kind of fucking broke so he can't afford himself to buy shit initially, but Prism gets him an exclusive, there-are-only-fifty-of-these-in-the-world poster of her, the kind you can only get through raffles, contests, or selling you kidney; and, well, let's just say one of Robert's walls is now worth thousands of dollar more than the others, for some reasons. That poster is only the beginning, don't worry.

One time Prism manages to get a selfie with Robert while he wasn't expecting it. Turns out kinda blurry, but Prism keeps it anyway. "Why?" "Cause you the only one in the squad I ain't got a photo with! By the way, can I post it on my socials? Promise I won't get ya doxxed!" "Sure, um... could you send it to me too? Like, on dms or something. " "Hell yeah, 'course I can! Just don't go flauntin' it around, wouldn't want my fans to believe they can just get pics with me for free! Consider yourself one of the lucky ones, MechaBob!" "Oh I do, don't worry about that."

That photo ends up being one of the few non-Beef related photos he has saved as his favorites on his phone. Meanwhile it takes all of Prism's willpower to not brag on her stories about how she managed to get a close-up selfie with THE Mecha Man, something that no fan of his has ever managed to get.

Yeah so anyway... fun stuff right?

prism and flambae remind robert of that lion and tiger gif he had seen on one of the online boards he frequents.

okay, that's a weird thing to say.

robert is standing in one of the abandoned rooms of the sdn building. there's nothing aside from dust and some clearly forgotten chairs. he went here to simply go away from the computer before he forgets he doesn't actually own the thing and puts his fist through the screen out of sheer frustration.

the room opens up into the hall with couches where many of the staff prefer to sit when on break, but because of some conveniently placed plants it's hard to see from the hall anyone who stands near the door.

prism has no wig on and a bare face because the latest mission fucked her up so bad she needed a visit to the medbay and an hour long shower to get rid of the villain's goop. the wig was confirmed to be unsalvageable which caused her a lot of dismay. alice didn't even apply her make up again because half of her face is still tender from healed up chemical burns.

flambae has his hair out, gelless and not covered in flame retardants because he managed to fall into acidic pool of blood that the villain left after himself on the last fifteen minutes of the shift. to say the he was livid is an understatement - his costume didn't survive the altercation at all and all the way home chad alternated between bitching about the villain or his looks.

they lounge on the couches near the windows, shittalking. sun has hit golden hour - chad's eyes are radiant hot orange, and alice's skin glows. sunrays catch in her short curls and get lost in his long wavy locks, lightening them both from black to shiny brown.

robert is absolutely not watching them like a creep who has nothing better to do after his shift.

shadows give chad stripes on his torso like a tiger, catch on his hooked nose. with no visor on alice's face is very lion-like - broad nose and sharp jawline, hot flash of perfect white teeth.

chad says something scathing and alice laughs - with her full chest, head thrown back, and then puts her head on his shoulder, rubs her cheek against tight bicep. he laughs himself - low, drawn out thing - and then yawns, not bothering to cover his mouth, all teeth on display.

robert looks at them - warm, content despite a long shit day, soft in the way they are only with each other, and aches.

Snap I forgot add- Robert getting extra trauma from his father's death after seeing how his fathers Soulamates were affected, plus anxiety due to the rise in deaths of Connectors

YES he in my fic canonically have huge anxiety about soulmates, due to his father and several reasons. He stands by the fact that Chase would have been a far better soulmate for himself than “cough” some people.

Robert wishes him and Chase were connected. So badly he wishes he could give life span snack to Chase later on. If only he wasn’t dying himself

AAH THANK YOU!! I’ve been in the trenches for soulmate aus for years and this is the first one I’ve actively put this much energy in! Considering when I world build seriously I put a lot of energy into it!

The itch is being scratched in my brain as well! I’m so happy cause the idea of Robert being so universally loved although he’s suffered for fifteen years just itches my brain right!

I am honored so deeply by the image of it sticking in your brain so hard!! That’s my great dream when making aus! When making this I wasn’t sure people would like it so this amazing feedback if people loving it has me blushing.

Poor poor Bobert (Rob) he does indeed get all these drawbacks, he suffers because I am so fascinated by the idea that the universe wouldn’t just give your soulmates and make it easy.

Society would find a way to transform and move around soulmates being a concept. But like anything it has bad or hard parts. People can miss out or die forever taking a piece with them.

So Robert is the connector which is the part of the soulmates that suffer the most commonly. The rise of those deaths have risen in common society.

A connector is when more than two soulmates like three or four are connected. One has to bring everyone together and suffers the drawbacks if they don’t all meet up.

But the connector is loved drastically once they meet up with their soulmates. Like I’m talking they are thee center of the bond. Nothing will ever feel complete without them while alive. Heck when they die/ are lost. Lots of soulmates die of a broken heart.

But if they don’t meet up, The connectors eventually die to the drawbacks

Soul leashed by you” au or poly soulmate z team au! Sonar edition.

Sonar edition. Now him and golem were neck and neck so I picked Sonar!

Now his, I’ve hinted at it before. When answering a QnA.

He and Robert as soulmates have their unique bond as well.

Sonar and Robert have an another senses themed bond. Robert drawback is his hearing goes incredibly sensitive sometimes. Like I’m talking like turning on a tv and expecting it to be like volume 32.

And it blasts at 100 immediately. He goes partially deaf when that happens for unknown periods of time. Or his hearing goes incredibly pin pointed. Like he struggles to hear you talking behind him, but someone in the closet way down the hall? Ya he’ll hear that shit.

Inspired by someone I’m close with that is autistic and actually hears things far away better than close up.

Robert is really good at lip reading because of that

Sonar can hear Roberts heart rate. But no voices minus vibrations. It’s weirdly complicated like he hears how the heart pumps with the pulse as well. So vibrations translate to that partially.

So when Robert when in his coma, sometimes his heart would stop.

Or be so quiet that Sonar could not hear a thing. It’s not constant it also comes in the same waves Roberts does. So while Robert hearing changes and or aches terrible, during like the twenty minutes of that happening sonar hears Robert’s pulse sound and heart basically.

Sonar was convinced his soulmate was just dead simply enough. He stated ignoring any connections peeking through. Despite he’s appreciating the fine art of ass and tits he’s so desperate for the piece of his soul he’s missing he’s literally so prepared to worship the ground Robert walks on. Without even knowing it’s Robert.

It’s not on all the time, like say during the break room fly scene. Their hearing had a five minute thing and Robert immediately is overwhelmed because of his hearing. And sonar cannot hear the pulse racing became of the flies being ground up.

Or the vibrations of the grinder despite no words coming though! Hopefully I’m explaining this well.

*raises hand* Robbie Robertson being a connector himself with the Brave Birgade being his soulmates (minus Chase). Shroud having the potential to either be a soulmate as well or not and the drama in the comics makes his isolation from the others even worse, especially if Chase was also not their Soulmate but he's still excepted

Because I can very easily mix the two ideas I had! And that honestly would make a lot of sense!

Let’s just say in my fic au, Robert has a ton of trauma around soulmates because his father put it deep into his skull nobody is as important as your job. Soulmates hold you back, theyll kill you. You should use them first. And depending on how you’re connected, if you lean on them for anything that makes you fundamentally useless without them. Soulmates make you useless. (Not true but also Robert is scared of the connection)

Robert doesn’t even know much about connectors despite being one.

Otherwise he wouldn’t be dying for so long and would be trying harder to find his soulmates. He knows a little bit honestly his father drilled it into him he shouldn’t depend on someone! But Robert if I was to spoil a little.

Believes dying will fix everything because he should have died in that suit, and his soulmates are better off without being soul joined by him.

Connectors like I said are adored but as a result they aren’t fragile bodily but spirit wise can be. It’s why the rise of deaths has always been big but rising shockingly.

Robert is shocking strong soul connection wise to not currently be dead. He has a rare amount of soulmates scattered across different lives. The pure amount with consequences.

The universe is almost like the sentient non sentient thing. It’s aware Robert needed more, plus genuinely they are good for each other. The universe chooses people who would or will make your life better.

Some people don’t grow and aren’t good soulmates. But the universe knows who has the best chance of helping you realize you can change to be better, if you’re not generally in a good place.

Also I feel the need to say, different soul bonds have different things that have you meet up, some already have consequences. But being the connector also has the drawbacks like making things hurt you more as a toll.
