Today, mum wanted noodles 🍜 from 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles located at the basement of Sun Plaza. So, I bought three takeaway bowls for the three of us. For myself, I had the Mushroom Soft Ribs Noodle (香菇软骨面) and the carbs I opted for are thin yellow noodles or mee kia (面仔). Came topped with a few pieces of braised soft bone pork ribs and mushroom. 🍄‍🟫

The other two bowls are Mushroom Minced Meat Noodle (香菇肉脞面) but with different types of noodles. One had thin yellow noodles or mee kia (面仔/幼面) and the other bowl, flat yellow noodles 🍜 or mee pok (面薄). Both bowls came topped with minced pork, pork slices, braised mushrooms 🍄‍🟫 and fishballs and a sprinkling of chopped scallions.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts, fishball, char siew pork, tau pok, fishcake and coriander. The noodles are wide and flat - very nice texture to them. The flavor was a kind of sweet and salty with just a lick of spiciness thrown in. Would love to head over to Singapore and try this in a hawker court! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars. Mum is not young anymore so I told her not to prepare more than necessary if only the two of us are eating. Dishes like this Fried Noodles is good enough for me. She used mee pok (面薄) or flat yellow noodles for tonight’s dinner with tiger prawns and added stall bought roasted chicken.

For a simple, less greasy dinner, mum prepared this one pot Pork Ribs Noodles Soup (排骨面汤). She added the pork ribs, yong tau foo (酿豆腐), waxy potato and dried scallops to the water to cook in advance. When we are home from office, she heats up the soup again, throw in some of the leafy lettuce and scoop them over the flat yellow noodles.

Mum only prepares this one pot Pork Ribs Noodles Soup (排骨汤面) when it is just the two of us eating. She also adds some Yong Tau Foo (酿豆腐) such as fish balls, bitter gourd stuffed with fish paste and various types of bean curd skin products. The soup is flavoured with sweet corns and dried scallops. Every ingredient is added to the soup except for the mee pok (面薄) or flat yellow noodles and the leafy cabbage. When you are ready to eat, the soup is heated up, cabbage thrown in and then the soup is ladled with the ingredients into a bowl with the noodles.

Mum preferred her noodles so I got the takeaway (S$5 + S$0.30 container) Minced Meat Noodle (肉脞面) from 85 Redhill Teochew Fishball Noodles at Sun Plaza. Hers is mee pok (面薄), characterized by its flat and yellow appearance and not the usual mee kia (幼面) or thin yellow noodles. The dry style noodles came with meat balls, fish dumpling, braised mushrooms, sliced and minced pork garnished with a whole lot of spring onions.

A few stalls away, I ordered my burgers from Ordinary Burgers. For the first one, I took up the Classic Beef Burger Meal (S$10.60) which adds French fries and a can of drink for S$3 extra. A freshly grilled smashed beef patty, made with 100% premium farm raised Australian beef and topped with Australian sauce. No idea what they meant by Australian sauce but it tasted like ketchup and mayonnaise with a dash of chilli powder in it.

The Spicy Chicken Burger (S$6) came with a crispy flour battered chicken, flash fried golden and marinated in a blend of hot sauce with a dash of purple mayo and fresh lettuce. While the patty is juicy and lightly spicy, the exterior looks over-fried. The purple mayonnaise seems more like a gimmick and tasted just like the plain white version.
