It does strike me as weird that the Silmaril doesn't burn Dior or Beren after they recover it by killing Dwarves. Like Beren picks it up almost directly after slaying the Lord of Nogrod. I get that the Dwarves attacked Menegroth, and that Beren and Dior are responding to that attack, but idk it's just weird to me. Also weird is the fact that we have no mention of it burning the Dwarves who have also just killed for it. So many mortals with unclean hands (and at least questionable motives for the original dwarves working on it at Menegroth) at this point have touched it and not been burned. Honestly, with all of the examples of people who have killed other people and then touched the Silmaril with no bad effect, it makes the fact that it does burn Maedhros and Maglor seem very pointed.
I'm not sure where else I'm going with this tbh. But it's something I think about occasionally. Perhaps it is an inconsistency that Tolkien never got around to ironing out. Anyone else have ideas as to why this might be?
