Very recently I’ve become just slightly obsessed with this character in Rune Factory 5. He sometimes wears glasses? Thinks cans are edible?? Doesn’t remember his past???

*A soft but urgent knock sounds in the night. The door is opened to reveal a small child with suspiciously dark green hair, sleeping unaware. A note is read, "Will you raise this child as a weapon to those who would defy Her Majesty? Or purely as a shield for humanity? Or perhaps he would be allowed to live among them and raised alongside them, with no other purpose but to live and discover life?"

You see no sign of anyone else in the area...

You stay with me. First, we notify the guards and my agents to be on alert for whoever brought you here. Next... Well. We shall see.

...I cannot fathom why anyone would bring a Nabatean child here, of all places. We are entirely unprepared to know what sort of care you need, if anything about that  is unique to you whatsoever.

It could be a scheme to reveal Rhea’s location. But our options are limited, little one. It is her or Seteth, and I fear even a temporary compromise with him for your sake is too risky.

I suppose we should start with Linhardt and Byleth. The former to make sure you’re in good health, as much as we can tell, and the latter for the sake of decency. I’m sure they would prefer to be among the first to know you’re here.

Jessie as in. . .Jessica? What is that supposed to mean? Her coming for me is nothing new, though I constantly have to come up with new excuses to distract her, or remove myself from her presence.

Or do you mean to imply she is coming for me with a plan? Goddess, was Seteth not enough to make her back down? She is truly insufferable!

Why did Edelgard allow Slithers to expiriment and harm Flayn even though she knew where they were and possibly what they were doing?

Edelgard cant say she isnt "anti-Nabatean" when she allows her allies to harm an innocent person for her blood and who knows what else if she hadn't been found. Not to mention the Death Knight hurting one of her other teachers as well. "The ends justify the means" as long as her and the people she supposedly cares about arent hurt right?

Why did Seteth stand idly by as Those Who Slither in the Dark tore across Fódlan, carrying out cruelties on the next generation of humanity? When all but one child from House Ordelia vanished, and the same occurred to House Hresvelg? If he didn’t want the experience of having a child kidnapped and harmed, perhaps he should have been more proactive.

...Pardon that outburst. This is a sensitive subject.

Our tense allies already had designs on Flayn. Truthfully, they wanted to take her away from Garreg Mach and could easily have done so had we not intervened. I’m not looking for your forgiveness, merely providing an explanation. We had to test how familiar the Knights of Seiros were with the grounds in preparation for our invasion of the Holy Tomb. Kidnapping Flayn to its secret passages was an exceptional way to do so.

We should have anticipated that they would take her blood. I’m not convinced that if we had, we could have prevented the horrors in Remire.

But, as we were not the centralized power in Fódlan at the time, our influence over Those Who Slither in the Dark was exceedingly limited. Swaying them to not disappear with Flayn was the most mercy we could muster.

If you believe that the kind of changes our society needs can be accomplished without anyone coming to harm, you are more a fool than you seem. I hope for your sake you remain clear of our path. Black and white has no place in war and battle.

There isn’t anyone in this war who wouldn’t go to greater lengths for the people they care about, and a failure to defend them isn’t an indication of not truly caring. But I haven’t the time or breath to waste explaining the nuances of revolution to you. 

I’m sure you’ve a noble or archbishop to answer to besides. You know how they become when they don’t have their way. It’s not worthy of derision when they inflict harm, though, is it? Curious.

Seteth and Flayn have worked in high positions in the Church for at least a year, they know how Rhea ran the Church and its plain to assume they said nothing. Would they not be deserving of Edelgards wrath and punishment for allowing that vile dragoness to rule humanity?

That they have. But there are other factors beyond simply their employment at the Church that shed greater light on the situation.

When the professor was first hired as staff at Garreg Mach, for example, Seteth reacted as any rational person would: with protest and shock. This stranger, with no instructional qualifications to speak of, was suddenly a teacher? Rhea’s disregard of his sound arguments showcases her indifference to his input when in pursuit of her atrocities as well as a tendency to keep him in the dark.

Had he known the experiments she ran on Byleth and supported them, Seteth would have agreed with her choice. Flayn, insofar as I can tell, has not been involved in human civilization for an incredibly long time. I doubt she knew anything of note to object to. 

As much as Fódlan's rebirth is a violent, bloody ordeal... There must be an element of mercy if the world is to change. Her Majesty visits the graves of fallen soldiers to deliver flowers. And, on occasion, we turn a blind eye to certain members of the corrupt Church. Those who were swept up in the schemes and lies of the archbishop are at fault only for their willful ignorance.

Perhaps they do deserve her wrath and punishment. But, simply put, if we all got what we deserve, I very much doubt you and I would be speaking now. 

Just as Linhardt’s and Caspar’s fathers were excluded from our campaign against the nobility, Seteth and Flayn may begin their lives anew.
