so posted my first ko-fi exclusive (so far) fic: Your Rising Tide. any money donated will go towards a new laptop for uni and able to use better apps to make my writing better. 

Your Rising Tide is a stuckony based fic, the first chapter is mostly setting the scene and introductions in a sense, the mer rules i use are old rules that me and a friend came up with for an old rp.

Merfolk AU, thinking about Tommy as a character, the twin of Gracie Goober who doesn't demand as much attention.

Now, in the human version, they are boy/girl twins, but for merfolk they are dualsex so the human names and associated gender are arbitrary and borrowed. But they don't mind them, because they are raised without rigid gender role expectations and see human culture from a mostly outsider perspective. Gracie is alpha-inclined (trying to come up with a range of merfolk gender types that make sense for their society roles, since it wouldn't be based as much on reproductive role) and Tommy is not. Gracie loves seals, Tommy kinda has a reaction to them like a non-dog-person does to dogs. Tommy does quieter hobbies, like making jewelry, and he also makes most of his own beads from various shells and bones and sometimes other things (like bits of trash or just lost things, and sometimes pre-made beads).

I think in addition to just hunting food the merfolk do land stewardship and foraging, like they'll watch over crab populations and farm oysters and mussels, and tend to reefs and sea plants. So Tommy likes looking after their crabs and encouraging interesting shell variations so he can make things out of them.

"You need to watch his dosage, always check the logs, make sure he's not going Alpha. He's no good for this if he goes Alpha..."

"What so he's gonna explode? Gonna get me? Be real. Of course I'm watching, but, come on, they go back and forth in the wild, right? Why couldn't we just bring him back down?"

"More trouble than it's worth. Read the reports, or just trust me."

(Third person) "ha, trust me, you don't wanna know what you gotta do to bring 'em back down fast. They hate it so much, they never act the same..."

"Whatever."

(Meanwhile Bucky can understand English. They don't really know or care.)

More "John!Mer wants to raise the babies with merfolk ways, Mer-Bucky is like yes but also humans have very cool stuff already that makes things easy and fun what is so bad about that"

John trying to get the babies to "eat their veggies" aka have some kelp, look, yum yum good! And Bucky gets a bag of frozen peas, dumps some in a bowl of water (or maybe a reusable boba cup with a straw) and the kids happily slurp them up like ducks.

Bucky is a good mom...!

John scowls... but later Bucky catches him snacking on peas because okay actually they are good...

Adolescent mer-Bucky and Steve drawings!

Kinda goes bottom left counter clockwise... first, gawky young Bucky trying to look scary and tough, then Steve gives him a comb and says he looks "so handsome!" with his hair styled back, and then Bucky makes the comb and looking good his whole personality and gives Steve a flower to stick in his hair.
