✨ Meet my Mercat! ✨ Have you seen my latest pattern in testing? This design was originally created for Amigurumi.com’s mythical creature contest a few years ago, but I never got around to publishing it—until now!

My goal is to have it ready in time for MerMay so you can make your own magical Mermaid cat. 🧜‍♂️🐱

Let's start off strong with the characters I draw the most >:)

The twins, Ren (red, left) and Alcis (green, right) are a fearsome duo that terrorise the deep ocean.

They were born joined at the tail - you may see future art where they're not anymore, but that would be telling too much. (i gotta draw out their whole story it'll take a while just bare with me)

These two are villainous, sly, and each have a strong cruel streak - meaning they butt heads with eachother often. 

Alcis is a magically gifted sorceror with many spells, however his most impressive ability is innate - he reads minds. Unfortunately this isn’t a capability he can turn off, he’s grown used to the thoughts of others drifting around his periphery. Other than that he’s intelligent in a snarky and bookish sort of way. He’s sometim-es useful, often annoying. There is a dark and silent period of his past - the burden of a cacophany of persistent unfiltered thoughts can cause a fragile mind to slip beneath the waves. He didn't even notice time passing him by...

Ren (red, left) is competent at everything Alcis isn’t, which is most things. Loud mouthed and brutish, she talks enough for both of them. She’s a tinkerer, practically minded and a skilled survivalist - with a frightening talent in trap construction to "even the playing field" when she feels Alcis is dragging her down against an opponent. Other times just for fun. She has no interest in magic, and no magical ability however all magic aside from her brother's turns a little... temperamental in her presence. Most of all, her incredible physical strength means she can manoeuvre with frightening speed and dexterity - towing Alcis along behind. Her strength of body is rivalled only by her strength of will, when she sets her mind on something no one will stand in her way.

Two mer drawings I did, one in 2019 and one in 2021. Only two years difference, but you can see SO many improvements between the two!

I started this painting probably last year? It’s been a while and finally today I was like, I only have maybe 3 things to do to finish it and so I did...

I think part of the reason why I didn’t want to finish this was because I made a mistake with the white space and how I wanted it to turn out. I wanted a better balance with negative space and instead I made it very bottom heavy... :CCC
