You didn't want to be at this tournament

The last thing you wanted to do was compete for some dude's hand and it seemed he [Merida] agreed

You both ran into each other when you were trying to escape the dinner and he was trying to hide his bear mother

His eyes widen when seeing you, before he pushes his mother into a room. You accidentally bump into him, before quickly apologizing

^ "No, it's fine. Don't worry 'bout it-" He shakes his hands, his eyes going back and forth, avoiding eye contact

His mother makes a loud roar, causing you to take a step back, eyes wide, as he awkwardly smiles and rubs his stomach.

"Wow! I'm so hungry!"

You end up finding out about the bear and he tells you what happened

"You," You point to him, "Turned your mother into a bear to change your fate?"

He blushes, since it sounded stupid when you said it like that, "I mean... Yeah- To put it simply."

You help him hide it from everyone else while he tries to find a way to turn his mother back

He thanks you profusely for helping him

His mother bear gives him a knowing look when you leave

But he quickly shakes his head, before shaking his finger, "No, no, no. Don't give me that look"

You lead them away for as long as you can, but they do end up turning on you

Since you helped him, Merida decided to give you a chance- Totally to just appease his mother

He develops a crush on you first, but denies it, because he doesn't believe in love and romance- because ew

But sometimes... Sometimes even he can't deny how his heart rate picks up and a smile shows on his face when looking at you

His mother is the first one to notice and sets something up, much to Merida's embarrassment

Really protective over you. If you trip or fall, he's quick to catch you and pull you close

His younger sisters tease him, but Merida just closes his bedroom door on this face, much to the girls annoyance

Pocahontas

Pocahontas would prefer someone who is passionate about the environment, someone who cares about the intricate way humans interact with the natural world

Her tribe is very important to her, so someone who respects and upholds the traditions of her tribe is a must

Besides that, she just wants someone who will take care of her, but also not stifle her

She would prefer someone she can adventure with, someone who will take her on journeys with them

Someone, who like her, finds it hard to settle down and stay in one place

Mulan

Mulan doesn't really have an ideal partner but she's open to the idea of meeting someone

Someone who can keep up with her in battle and keep a level head when needed would be extremely helpful

Someone who doesn't mind that she's a little "non-traditional" and who even finds that somewhat appealing

Someone who doesn't expect her to stay at home while they do all the work, maybe the both of you could split the duties

She doesn't need a partner but if one were to come her way, she wouldn't be opposed to making it work

Tiana

Tiana doesn't have time to sit around and dream about a knight in shining armour, but like Mulan, she's not going to shut out the possibility of someone coming into her life

If she had to choose a perfect partner, it'd be someone who supports her dreams of opening her restaurant, who helps her achieve that goal and is not afraid of a woman who works hard

Someone who enjoys her cooking would be a plus

She would appreciate if you're patient and willing to give her her space when she needs it, after all, she has a lot of shifts to work

Rapunzel is really open minded, she's open to anyone who is willing to spend time with her

She'd appreciate somebody who wants to learn some of her many skills and do them with her

She would love anyone, though, she's not that hard to please. She'll find anything you do fascinating and ask a million questions

She'd also prefer it if you didn't freak out about her hair'

If you want to win Merida's heart, first you have to understand that she's not just going to immediately be into you

She would prefer to be on her own and therefore she doesn't really have a particular ideal partner

Someone who could keep up with her fiery attitude and her desire for adventure would be nice

Maybe even a good archer yourself, so she can have competitions with you

Really, she'd just prefer someone who will give her her space when needed and be there for her when needed

Moana

Moana wants someone who is going to trust and listen to her, someone who will give her good advice when she's uncertain what path to choose

Someone who shares her passion for the ocean, who loves to spend time in it, swimming, sailing, wayfinding, whatever the activity just enjoying the ocean air

Like Pocahontas, she wants someone who will respect and appreciate the history of her tribe and contribute to it

She is the chief of her tribe, so someone who will remind her every now and then to have fun and let loose. To not be so hung up on running the tribe and to enjoy herself.

Raya

Raya is a deeply mistrusting person, so she would prefer someone who can break down her walls. Who won't immediately be intimidated by her rough exterior.

She may like someone she can let loose around, someone who will listen to her worries and help her comes to term with the fact that she can't control everything

Above all, her ideal partner would be someone who believes in her father's vision of Kumandra. Who will fight alongside her for a world where everyone lives in peace and harmony.

Male Merida

A young woman with long h/c hair and e/c eyes, who was busy rocking her newborn baby boy to sleep, didn't notice her husband standing by the door. She was too busy trying to calm the little boy down, and it was slowly working as his eyes became heavier by the minute. As soon as he fell asleep, she put him in the wooden cot filled with blankets and made her way out of the room, only to run into someone from behind. When she turned around, her husband was in front of her. She smiled at him and hugged his waist. He hugged her back. Once they let go of each other, her husband picked her up and took her to their room and put her down on the bed; he got in next to her.

"Y/n, do you remember when we first met?" Her husband asked her.

"Aye, I do Merida." She answered as she smiled at him as she lay on his chest.

Flashback

It was the day Merida's parents, Queen Elinor and King Fergus, decided to hold a tournament or compaction for Merida's hand in marriage. While three princesses were competing, another was sitting on the outskirts of the forest watching them, giggling at how they couldn't do anything. As she watched them, she hadn't noticed the bear sneaking up on her, but when she heard that skin-crawling low grow, she slowly turned around to see it. She quickly turned around and ran for it, even though she knew it's a slight chance she would get away. When she saw her father, mother and sister, one of the princesses, taking part in the game, she began to call for them.

"PAPA, MAMA, CELSEY! HELP!" She called to them since she had nothing to defend herself.

All three looked to see who it was, and they all paled, seeing the youngest being chased. When she called them, her brother, Erskine, was getting back. But only to see his younger sister being chased with no form of protection. Erskine and Celsey began to charge at it, but before Celsey could move from next to their mother and father, Lachlan, their father, began to run to his youngest. Before the young princess could get to them, she tripped. When she looked behind her, she saw that the bear was getting closer and closer. Suddenly a powerful voice started shouting commands to help and protect the villagers watching and the princess lying on the floor, scared about the bear closing in on her. When the bear was on two feet, ready to attack, a spear hit it. She stumbled to her feet but only to fall again. This time, a pair of arms hoisted her up and ran over to the two people she called out.

"Y/n!" They both called at the same time and ran to her side.

When she was put onto her feet, she fell forward into her mother's arms. Celsey looked down to see that she was not putting any pressure on her right ankle. As they looked after her, the men tried to get rid of the bear. After they finally got rid of it, Lachlan and Erskine went straight to y/n, who was struggling to stand back up. Erskine helped her by taking the weight off her right ankle and holding her to his side.

"Y/n what was you doing? Are you alright? Why didn't you have your bow and arrows?" Lachlan questioned her.

All she could do was offer a small smile before she put all her weight onto her brother. When she did this, it caught the attention of Queen Elinor. She made her way to them and put her hand on y/n’s forehead.

"She has a fever." Elinor told them as she looked towards a healer.

Time skip

The long h/c haired and e/c eyed young lady was lying on a bed. A wet cloth on her forehead and something to support her sprained ankle. As she was lying there asleep, her mother was next to her, stroking her hair.

"So this is why you didn't want to come because you were ill." Her mother, Tavie, said as she kissed her daughter's forehead.

Soon y/n's fever broke, and Tavie went and got Lachlan. They returned to the room and saw her sitting with her back resting on the headboard. They quickly made their way over and placed themselves on either side of her.

"Y/n, how are you feeling?" Lachlan asked her.

"I'm feeling a lot better now, papa." She replied as she offered them a smile.

They talked for a while until it was time for Lachlan and Tavie to go and eat with everyone else, as y/n was bedridden until she could walk. She spotted three little boys making their way into her room as she finished her meal.

"Well, I don't know what I'm going to do about the three little misters in my room." She said as if they weren't there.

Not even ten seconds later, they were sitting on and around her. Just staring as though they don't want to forget her.

"It's been awhile Hamish, Hubert, Harris. So what have you three been up to?" She asked, and it was a long time before anyone could find the triples.

As they were talking and playing games that didn't evolve (y/n) from getting off the bed, they didn't notice the pair of green eyes watching them.

"So, are you three having fun?" The person that was watching asked the three boys.

They nodded their heads and then ran out of the room. Then the green-eyed person sat on the bed next to her. Y/n smiled at them.

"It's been a while, Merida. How have you been?" She questioned as she leaned against the headboard.

"I'm good, just trying to get the girl I love to notice me." Was his reply.

"I see." Her smile faltered a bit. "Well, thank you for saving me and tell the girl. I'm sure she won't say no to you." She explained as she pointed out his body. "But personally, I think your heart is better. The way you would do anything for your family without hesitation is what I like best about you. So who's the lucky one?" She explained, then asked him.

All he did was lean forward and press his lips to hers. Shocked at first, y/n didn't kiss back, but she eased into the kiss. Soon it was y/n sitting sideways on Merida's lap. Hugging each other and then, Merida lay them down, with (y/n) laid on Merida's chest; they fell asleep in each other's embrace.

End of flashback

"What was you remembering?" Merida asked his wife as she had a smile on her face and looked up at him.

"The time you saved my life." Was her reply.

"That is not when we first met, though." He pointed out to her.

"I know. We first met as children. I was with my papa, and he brought me here to meet you as he was doing trade with your father." She says after giggling.

He smiled at her, whispered a goodnight, then pulled her closer to him and fell asleep until one of them had to get up for their little boy.

A/N: Happy birthday, Winter! Wszystkiego najlepszego, sto lat! 🎉✨🎊 I remember from one tag game you are celebrating your special day today, so I decided to prepare a little something for you. I picked Merida as a character for this imagine since I know we both love Brave, this way I could also write for her for the first time. Enjoy your gift and please do something nice for yourself today, or whenever you'd like to celebrate; you totally deserve it!!!

You urgently knock at Merida's chamber door. A couple of minutes pass before you manage to get any reaction from her.

'Leave me alone!' she shouts.

'You know I can't!'

Another minute and she opens the door with a grumpy face.

'Can I come in?' you ask.

'If you have too...'

'You know I'm mainly your friend, and only then I'm meant to advise you,' you remind her, heading for Merida's bed and sitting next to her.

'I know, I know...' she sighs, lying down. 'Being a princess is just so boring sometimes. And my mother wants me to attend another gathering tomorrow!'

'Another gathering? Haven't you been to one yesterday?'

You let the question out in a surprised tone, hoping she won't realise you actually know that she's supposed to attend some meeting and that it was her mother that asked you to convince her to join.

Luckily enough, it doesn't seem to cross Merida's mind and she only exclaims:

'Yes! And it makes me so tired!'

'Well... how about you agree to go to that gathering, and we'll go for a ride right after?'

She sits up with a thoughtful expression on her face.

'What if my mother doesn't agree?'

'Oh, I'll help you convince her. I'm a part of her court too after all, maybe she'll take my advice and realise her daughter need some time to herself too.'

Merida's smile gets wider and wider as you speak. Once you finish, she makes a decision.

'Okay, I trust you. I'll do it.'

You agree to meet the next afternoon, right after dinner; you're supposed to wait for her in the stables, form where you'll take your horses and go for a ride.

After a little chat with your friend, you finally leave her room and head for your chamber. You're not sure if she saw through your plan, but you hope she'll be there tomorrow either way, so that you'll spend a nice afternoon together.
