Something I don’t think is discussed enough with Millie — to the detriment of any made criticism of her character — is that her character centers around her actively trying to be the “reliable one” of the group based on her own preconceived notions of her worth. As an imp from Wrath, her incredible fighting skills are likely not so impressive compared to all the other adept fighters that come out of that circle, a point which is supported by her song in Unhappy Campers (calling herself just a regular joe, thus underplaying her skills) and her conversations with Blitz in the flashbacks of Ghostf**kers. I’ve seen a lot of critiques of Millie, saying that she’s overlooked compared to the rest of the main cast, but that is. kinda the point?? She’s defined herself as being the rock of the I.M.P team, and thus hasn’t really let her own issues and insecurities be known like the others. This mentality also contributes to her distress over her revealed pregnancy, as, if she chooses to go through with the pregnancy, she’ll be out of commission for quite a while, and, even after she’s had the child, her body will be irreversibly changed, not to mention her having another person to take care of. This development completely puts a wrench in her perception of herself, which could lead to some really interesting character exploration with her as she considers her desires with her life and her identity as it is now, and how the two overlap and conflict with eachother.
Why I believe millie will be the last main charater to complete her arc.
Millie as many including her own voice actor have pointed out seems to have a major problem with taking care of others instead if herself so here's a though. What if she isn't told to stop or forced to by some charater or another force but instead it's simply that she can't do that anymore?
The question I ask you dear reader is what happens when a workaholic caretaker finds out their job is done and no more work needs to be done? What happens when all the children are tucked in and the nanny doesn't want to go home?
Picture this. Millie for the first time in her life finds she doesn't need to help anyone anymore and her old anxieties of being second place dumb muscle start to bubble back up to the surface with a vengeance for years of being repressed. Combine that with being put on a forced pregnancy leave despite her wishes and we have a nasty one two combo!
She might even go lesson zero on us! For those of you who don't know what that is it's an episode of my little pony where twilight sparkle goes a tad crazy after finding that the usual episode friendship problem wasn't happening for some reason and eventually ends up causing a disaster by enchanting a doll which requires the local equine demi goddess and her mentor princess celestia to come down to deal with it. And maybe depending on how desperate millie is to feel like a part of the gang again and resume her caretaker role she knowingly triggers one of the others trauma so she can swoop in and save it but the damge she did was much worse than she thought and causes serious relapses in character development. Eventually she comes clean and all is well again but it would be an interesting angle on millie someone who has never thought about themselves before Is forced into a postion where they don't have any other options.
i think i figured out a way for millie to have more personality(?more detail) put more focus on how her parents shaped her. because in ep5 there was implied bits about millie being competitive and her sister being a bit of the golden child. doesnt mean they are abusive but flawed. we need more flawed parents in this fuck ass show(i guess stolas counts but he’s a whole other cookie) maybe show how she puts a ton of pressure on herself because she wants to prove herself, in my hc millie is the second shortest(her baby brother is the first) of her family and her parents wanted her to toughen up so that when they died her and her siblings would be ok. hell if i HAD to keep the pregnant storyline i’d make it about how she helped raise her baby brother so she knows she can. but whether if she wants to. bc now theres two sides one wants to prove she can handle being a parent and the other wants to keep focusing on her work.
