Well Jim’s birthday is on January fourth, and Bones’s is on the 20th, so I was thinking about encouraging people to write a small Jim-based fic for the 4th and then a sequel/similar Bones-based one for the 20th? Idk.
I was thinking about a McKirk week in the spring, and maybe a birthday celebration sort of thing? Though the second one might be kinda short notice.
I'm totally down for that. People would have time to do projects during spring break. :) What do you mean/when would the birthday celebration thing be?
But a tumblr buddies AU where Jim decides to be Bones' secret santa (psst omegabones) and sends him tons of cute messages throughout the month, like cute good morning/goodnight messages and all the dates he'd love to take Bones on and all the things he likes about Bones like his cute little nose and how Bones' smile makes his heart do somersaults
And of course they're best friends so Bones texts Jim about it every day, about how amazing this secret santa is and hoping he gets to find out who it is because he's really interested in him, and Jim plays right along, even adding to the facade by poking fun at Bones for being as smitten as a schoolgirl (definitely not because Bones' grumbly responses are cute, no, why would he ever do that)
And when Christmas day comes around, Bones uncharacteristically jumps up that morning and hops on his laptop to find a submission off anon from none other than Jim and it's a picture of Jim holding a piece of mistletoe, captioned "This message is good for one raincheck kiss for when you get here, check your mailbox" where tHERE'S A PLANE TICKET FOR BONES TO COME SEE HIM
Random sketchies today at work hue. And then there is orca bones from mirrorwinonakirk drabble fic with orca Bones and wing jim thing (and jim leaving feathers in Bones hair and Bones clutching onto one of Jim’s feathers ….idk). It’s really a hodge podge of stuff.
okay OKAY but imagine an omegaverse AU where when Alpha Pike recruits Omega Bones to Starfleet he just kinda. claims him. because damn son that's one gorgeous Omega and Bones feels better with an Alpha around so they've got this good casual thing but Pike starts to get kind of possessive when Alpha Jim decides that Chris doesn't know a good thing when he sees it and goes after Bones who is super overwhelmed because HOLY SHIT the posturing and effort has him really overwhelmed (and aroused).
mirrorwinonakirk replied to your post “Good luck on your job interview! You'll do fine. hope you get the job! :-)”
IF YOU NEED ANY TIPS CHECK MY INTERVIEWS TAG. Especially the second post, about what questions to ask. I followed some of the examples and the interviewers were -super- impressed.
Flip-flopped Academy Era AU where Bones is the one who notoriously sleeps around a lot without any commitments--some of the nastier students call him the "school slut", but he tries not to let it get to him. Jim just shakes his head fondly and focuses on his schoolwork. It becomes harder to stomach, however, when he develops feelings for his best friend/roommate. He knows Bones doesn't do relationships. Bones, of course, doesn't realize--he's too busy freaking out about being in love with Jim.
THISSSSSSSSS how dare you
After Joce leaves, Leonard swears he won’t ever do it again.
Eight years of his life signed away with so much black ink on white paper, and he’s reduced to a dollar amount, a memory, a few pointedly avoided photographs in the family album. It hurts too much, he decides, six pints in and nowhere else to go, and he spends that night in the back room of a bar with a nameless man.
It’s a rebellion and a denial in more ways than he cares to count, and he does it again the following night. There’s something relieving in the act, an abandonment of what’s right or wrong and an embracing of what simply is. He can forget when he’s pressing into a warm, eager body, when a strong hand on the back of his neck pins him against the wall and an anonymous voice murmurs into his ear.
Meeting Pike changes things, but not so much that he can’t continue. He packs up his meager belongings, climbs aboard the shuttle with dread sitting cold in his stomach, and looks into the wary eyes of James Tiberius Kirk.
He doesn’t figure out who the kid actually is until later at the Academy, when he walks into his tiny dorm room and comes face-to-face with the familiar bruised visage, and he’s vaguely discomforted for all of twenty minutes before the kid yawns widely, stretched out across his bed, and asks if he wants to get a drink.
Jim drinks like a fish and has the tolerance of a fourteen-year-old, and it’s not long before Leonard’s shaking his head in exasperation, looking down at his passed out roommate.
"Hey," his conquest of the night breathes against his ear, settling a hand on the small of his back. "What d’you say we get outta here, huh?"
Leonard glances at him wistfully- the guy’s tall, muscled, and covered in tattoos that Leonard wants to spend time tasting- and sighs. “Sorry, no. Have to get this one home.” He jabs Jim in the side none too gently, and Jim snorts before slumping onto Leonard’s shoulder.
"Pity," the guy says, after a short pause. He gives Leonard his number anyways, which Leonard silently resolves to never use. He doesn’t make it a habit to see anyone twice, even if he hasn’t officially slept with the guy yet.
Needless to say, the rumors inevitably start cropping up and make their rounds around campus. Leonard’s dealt with this shit before, but that doesn’t mean he’s thoroughly done with it by the time it reaches his ears.
Jim’s with him at the time, and he turns sharply when he hears the call, “Hey, slut!” from the cafeteria crowd.
"Leave it," Leonard says, before Jim can go pick a fight. "It’s just some shithead."
"But-"
"I said leave it,” Leonard growls, the vein in his temple throbbing testily, and Jim wisely leaves it.
He doesn’t intend to fall for Jim Kirk. He doesn’t think anyone does, but the kid was born with his own center of gravity, the sun in the middle of the solar system.
Or a black hole, Leonard’s more macabre side thinks sullenly, and he prods the voice into silence.
There’s a sort of pleasure to the pain now that makes him think he’s more fucked up in the head than he originally thought, a twist of the knife in the old wound whenever he comes back after a late night and sees that Jim’s still up, clearly done with all his classwork but waiting for Leonard to come back anyway.
The expression on his face tells Leonard that Jim knows exactly where he’s been, what he's been up to, but it’s the false smile and cheery, “Hey, Bones, you’re back,” that he desperately needs to see. It lends an illusion of reality to the pretense, and he dwells in it helplessly.
"You’re a goddamn screw-up," he tells his reflection in the bathroom mirror as he’s preparing for another night out, and his own eyes crinkle humorlessly back. There’s a bite mark on his neck that still stings when he touches it, and damn it, he told the guy not to leave any marks. There’s nothing he can do about it at this point, and he pulls a shirt on with a disgruntled sigh, flipping up the collar of his jacket in a halfhearted attempt to hide the telling bruise.
Jim’s lounging on his bed when he exits the bathroom, watching a movie on his PADD with his bare feet tucked under the pillows, and he glances up at Leonard, his expression unreadable.
"I’ll be back later," Leonard says, like he always does, and he reaches for the door.
"Don’t go," Jim says, and Leonard stops with his hand still on the latch.
"Just going out for a drink," he lies, staring at the door.
He hears a rustling as Jim gets up, and he doesn’t have to turn around to imagine the kid’s face.
"Don’t," Jim repeats. "It’s not good for you."
Leonard gives a derisive snort, and he turns then just so he can glare at Jim. “And what the hell’s it to you, huh?”
"They call you-"
"I don’t care what they call me," Leonard lies again, his heart wrenching when he sees the corner of Jim’s mouth twist in dismay. "I’m gonna leave now, and-"
"You’re a coward."
Leonard stiffens, and he feels the slow burn of anger churning in his gut. “What?”
Jim stares back vindictively, his eyes red-rimmed and pale and his fists clenched at his sides. “You heard.”
"You don’t know what you’re talking about, kid." Leonard tries to drop his voice, make his words as threatening as he wants them to be, but he’s hollowed out and empty and pathetic and Jim’s a burning fire.
"You’re just a coward!" Jim snaps, and Leonard feels himself break. "You’re a fucking coward, Bones, if you don’t think you’re worth it. You-"
"Shut up," Leonard says, hearing his own voice crack.
"You don’t think you deserve to be loved, so what?!” Jim yells, red-faced and shaking. He’s pissed, Leonard realizes, the angriest Leonard’s ever seen him. “It’s not gonna keep me from loving you, asshole!”
They stare at each other from across the room, Jim breathing heavily and Leonard not breathing at all.
"I love you," Jim says again, quieter this time, but his voice is utterly wrecked. He blinks rapidly, and Leonard sees with a pang that his eyes are glinting with wetness. "Bones, don’t go."
Leonard takes a breath, feels it burn the whole way down and stab at his chest. He tears his eyes away from Jim’s, because if he keeps looking, he’ll fall harder than he’s ever fallen before, for Joce or anyone else. And it’ll hurt all that much more when Jim leaves.
"Bones." Jim steps closer and Leonard tries to move away, but his feet stay rooted to the spot and Jim keeps coming towards him.
"Don’t," Leonard rasps, feeling a stir of panic, and Jim’s hands enter his vision, closing carefully around his wrists.
"Bones," Jim murmurs, painfully soft, and then he’s right there with Leonard, his arms warm as he pulls Leonard in close. "I’m sorry." It’s an apology for things gone past, opportunities missed, every night that Leonard’s spent alone despite the body beside him, and Leonard finds himself clutching the kid’s back desperately, his fingers shaking where they grab onto Jim’s shirt.
"Jim," he chokes out, tasting his own tears on his lips. "I can’t- I-"
"I know." Jim’s hand closes around the back of his neck, pressing him closer, and Leonard blindly lets him, closing his eyes.
Looks like Jim might be worth taking that second chance, after all.
