It should not work. It really shouldn't.
Edmundo Diaz should not be as charmed by the pirate captain and his smile.
Eddie was a sailor who lost his family because of corrupted governors and their shady deals. All that he had left was to join the navy and then a few years into it they got boarded by Captain Gerrard.
What followed were some of the worst years of Eddie's life, he befriended two of the other sailors, Hen and Chimney, but outside of that Gerrard is the worst man to serve under. And they didn't even choose it.
So he should be annoyed that they got boarded by pirates again.
Eddie should not be charmed Captain Buck. He just turned his life upside down again. Eddie should be annoyed, he should be tired of this and most of all he should be scared. Scared of the man who barely had to try during a swordfight with one of the meanest bastards Eddie had ever met.
He should be scared of the blood on his face and his hands as he guts Gerrard.
But no — he apparently has no self-preservation because Eddie thinks he's the most attractive man he's ever seen, even with the blood.
(Especially with the blood).
And so when Captain Buck gives him a chance to join his crew? He takes it. Even though the offer to leave peacefully had been offered —they had only been after Gerrard and his loot, they didn't care what the people in his command did.
Or rather all the ones that had a problem with it had already been dealt with, killed — Eddie reminds himself. Not that he cared for any of them, as most were as cruel as Gerrard. Davy Jones' Locker can have them and they will not be mourned.
Eddie could go back on land and maybe get a trade, a simple life. But land has never been his more — not anymore. Not after the loss of Shannon and Chris.
For the first time in his life, Eddie Diaz makes a decision for himself and shakes Captain Buck's hand, accepting the position.
Who knows maybe he'll make for a good pirate.
Either way he gets to spend more time with the sexy and mysterious Captain Buck.
And maybe just maybe — find a home in the horizon.
