Tonight’s diabetes-friendly taco salad. Yes, that is corn. (It’s lean taco seasoned ground beef, sautéed mushrooms, spring mix greens, and a sun dried tomato vinaigrette, and that yummy mexican street-style chipotle corn.) But it’s just a little and it’s within my meal limit (keep comments weight-neutral/fat positive please). I’ve been feeling super inspired by this book to start living Judaism a little more boldly, to start learning more, experiencing more, and being less concerned with the expectation to do Judaism perfectly. I am tired of worrying about being a tattooed Jew or mixed faith person and I just want to spend this year really trying, really trying all the things. . . . . I get a lot of emails from couples who want weddings that are not Jewish but Jew “ish”. It always makes me smile, it’s right up my alley, and I LOVE doing them! I have DEEP roots in Judaism and am actually descended from Jewish High Priests and Cantors. I know the traditions intimately but I love breathing new life into them by giving them modern relevance and re-animating the essential spirit of the traditions, ceremonies and rituals so that they don’t come through as heavy handed, dogmatic and stale. Water Bear

As a woman of mixed race and mixed religious faith, growing up between an Islamic and Western country I have been trying to develop my ability to express my identity through the duality of both celebrating the beauty of sexuality with my inherent Muslim culture and surroundings. Waterbear is another name for Tardigrades, water-dwelling, segmented micro-animals that can thrive in extreme conditions. Bio: Nargis Dhirani is a Filipino-Tanzanian interdisciplinary artist from Dubai, U.A.E., currently based in Vancouver, Canada. She received her Bachelors of Fine Art in Studio Art from American University in Dubai. Her work addresses concepts that center around cultural, female identity and self-representation. She works in digital collage, soft sculpture, installation, video, painting and photography. Nargis has an interest in kinetic sculpture and installations that are interactive with the public. She has won the Sheikha Manal Young Artist’s Award for People’s Choice in 2012. She is now working on continuing to serving the community to promote creativity and wellness through Yoga and Art.
