A Hill I’m Willing to Die On
I’ve talked about this before, but just because I’m the LADY in my marriage does not mean I’m responsible for 100% of our family agenda outside literally my husband’s work schedule. Despite the fact that many, many people seem to think that I am.
I can’t tell you how often my husband will ask someone a question, and they send the answer to ME. completely contextless, I’ll get an email address or details for a family event, as though he cannot possibly be trusted with that information. WTF he’s the one who asked for it in the first place!
I know that probably when they had kids, they were the keepers of the family schedule, bc they didn’t work while their husbands did, but it’s not like that for us! Adam and I both work! A Lot! I have a full time job! helloooo! So we really do split things well! He’s really the partner in our marriage! I trust him to make a lot of decisions that were “mom” decisions historically, because I have to! I don’t have time!
anyway, I just got another email with a piece of information that Adam asked for, without him being included. And I said, “Thanks! I think Adam is managing this, so I’ll pass it along to him!”
I don’t want to be nasty about it, but I do want to be consistent that if Adam asks for something, it’s bc HE IS IN CHARGE OF THAT THING. And I will not relent. I will keep this battle up, bc how else do you ever change a family dynamic that doesn’t work for your family??
