❝There are different kinds of darkness. There is the darkness that soothes, the darkness that is restful. The darkness of lovers, and the darkness of assassins. It becomes what the bearer wishes it to be, needs it to be. It’s not wholly bad or good.❞ —Sarah J. Maas, A Court of Mist and Fury

❝Only the very weak-minded refused to be influenced by literature and poetry.❞
—Cassandra Clare, The Clockwork Angel

HI! i made a bookstagram @/roscbuds, so it would mean the world to me if you checked it out xx
hellooooo! i just finished clockwork angel and i’m DESPERATE to go buy the next 2 books, but until i can do that, i am sharing my favorite quotes from this lovely book!
“one must always be careful of books and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”
“only the very weak-minded refuse to be influenced by literature and poetry”
“perhaps London is just Hell’s entrance, and we are the damned souls refusing to pass through, fearing that what we fill find on the other side will be worse than the horror we already know”
“it is as great a thing to love as it is to be loved.”
a collection of my favorite lyrics from hadestown
"the trees gonna lay the wedding table and the rivers gonna give us the wedding bands” (i love the intuition with nature, the connection and imagery this lyric gives me)
“king of mortar, king of bricks. the river styx is a river of stones. and hades lays them high and thick with a million hands that are not his own” (all of the epic songs have my heart)
“he could make you see how the world could be in spite of the way it is” (yeah i sob over this lyric on a daily basis)
“i was alone so long i didn’t even know that i was lonely”
“say that the wind won’t change us. say that we’ll stay with each other. and it will always be like this.”
“touched by the gods is what he was” (HOLY IMAGERY)
“hades was the king of a kingdom of dirt” (don’t think this made it to the broadway version but i love it)
“the smell of the flowers she held in her hand and the pollen that fell from her fingertips, and suddenly hades was only a man with a taste of nectar upon his lips, singing: la la la la la la la” (once again i don’t think this made it into the broadway version but damnnn it’s brilliant)
“and that is the reason we’re on this road...it’s because of the gods. the gods have forgotten the song of their love” (how relevant this lyric is today is astonishing)
“and they’re giving me hell back in hadestown” (lmaooo too ironic)
“i want a nice, soft place to land. i wanna lie down forever”
“orpheus, my heart is yours. always was. always will be. it’s my gut i can’t ignore” (the vocals on this song chill my skin)
“so you really wanna go? with all my heart” (yeah wait for me and wait for me (reprise) are just ultimate songs (both obc and the live versions))
“dreams are sweet, until they’re not; men are kind, until they aren’t. flowers bloom, until they rot, and fall apart” (this entire lament is so soul crushing)
“and there were no words for the way that you felt, so you opened your mouth and you started to sing: la la la la la la la la” (yeah i cry every time reeve sings la la la la)
all of wait for me (reprise) but specifically these lines:
“show the way so we can see. show the way the world could be”
“the dog you really got to dread is the one that howls inside your head. it’s him whose howling drives men mad and a mind to its undoing”
“are we gonna try again? it’s time for spring. we’ll try again next fall. wait for me? i will”
“i’ll tell you where the real road lies: between your ears, behind your eyes. that is the path to Paradise, and likewise, the road to ruin” (BRILLIANT)
okieee back to the rest of the show
“who do i think i am? who am i to think that she would follow me into the cold and dark again?”
the entire scene when eurydices gasps because orpheus turns around shatters my SOUL
“cause here’s the thing, to know how it ends and still begin to sing it again as if it might turn out this time. i learned that from a friend of mine” (this line is so interesting to me because it makes you just really feel for orpheus who lets himself into this situation over and over again. and then, the cast gets to tell it each night as if it’s a completely new beginning is brilliant!!!)
“everybody looked and everybody saw that spring had come again”
“it’s a sad song. it’s a tragedy. but we sing it anyway”
SO GO LISTEN TO HADESTOWN IF YOU HAVEN’T! i highly recommend both the live album from 2017 as well as the original broadway cast because both make you feel immense emotions. and i love wait for me ii just as much as the changed reprise version. appreciate both albums in all of their brilliance and glory!!!
All the girls in the world were divided into two classes: one class included all the girls in the world except her, and they had all the usual human feelings and were very ordinary girls; while the other class -herself alone- had no weaknesses and was superior to all humanity.
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
a collection of my favorite lyrics from hamilton: an american musical (i haven’t listened to the show in AGES and i forgot how beautifully it is written so safe to say ii was slightly emotional from the experience)
“you built me palaces out of paragraphs, you built cathedrals.”
“death doesn’t discriminate between the sinners and the saints.” (GENIUS GENIUS GENIUS)
“the worlds you keep erasing and creating in your mind.”
“the moments when you’re in so deep, it feels easier to just swim down.”
“and when my time is up, have i done enough? will they tell your story?”
“raise a glass to freedom, something they can never take away.”
“look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.”
“we laugh and cry and we break and we make our mistakes.”
“why do you write like your running out of time?”
“we have to make this moment last, that’s plenty.”
“this is not a moment, it’s the movement.”
It seemed to Pierre that this comet fully responded to what was passing in his own softened and uplifted soul, now blossoming into a new life.
