The Staff of Nevermore thoeries, connections, and predictions

Okay so this is what I gathered from what we know from the magical staff from this academy.

we know (theoretically) that Ms. Poppet, Nurse Dolly, and the Maid (prob. named Marinette) are dolls. we can gather from their names, how similar they look, and how one of them that used to keep the academy clean is nowhere around due to her turning fully into a doll. ( which explains why the academy is very dusty)

We know there are wisps patrolling around the academy, but we also see that they do not grab the students but they mostly just watch and follow the students.

Then there is the dean two magical beings with octopus tentacles that look like twins (red did confirm that they aren’t twins/bio related)

Lastly, we see the mystery boy who when Morella, Bee and Lenore try to leave the academy through the gate. Get sent to the lecture room/class room. While Lenore gets sent to the final trial or the end of the maze (a pocket dimension) where she meets the boy who is able to give her the ring. meaning he was watching everything thats been unraveling the whole time and has the ability to transfer the students back into the academy as well.

but who controls them? who gives them the abilities to travel from pocket dimension to pocket dimension? Who is at the top of all this? Are there any more staff? Many people theorize that creation of Dolly and poppet might be from Mourn and Merry due to them having a similar personality to Dolly and Poppet. Merry and Poppet being entertained and sometimes sadist with the students. While Dolly and Mourn are more serious and take things with precautions. Although I do find the theory to be interesting, I kinda find it strange that Ms. Poppet has a crush on both of the deans. While Ms. Dolly calls her a tramp for thinking that. Even if they created them? Why would you have a thing for someone that might of made you?

another thing I also find strange was although the deans are very powerful and have rules for the students. They themselves have rules to follow as well, they cannot involve themselves with the Stag. Even their favorite student Annabel lee who is withering is no exception for them to be involve with the Hunt.

and we get something juicer the stag was able to HURT Merry and they are able to turn into beings that hold a scythe and yet they couldn't hurt the stag back instead they restrain the beast and leave.

Which makes me believe that the deans might be or related to thanatos and hypnos (in Greek mythology) or Somnus and Mors in roman mythology.

We see that in ep103 where the characters talk about roman and Greek Mythology.

And what does sommus and mors have in common with the deans besides having scythes and looking like the night sky?

Sommus and Mors aka hypnos and Thanatos  = hyonos is Sleep and Thanatos is death, their stay in their favoirte pocket dimentions Dream land --Somnus also stayed in a realm called the relam of sleep. In a dark cave near the underworld where the river Lethe flowed.

Both Mors and Sommus were descriped to be similar to each other Virgil himself called them “brothers” While Homer (in Greek mythology called them twins. and we also see that “In Roman Mythology Somnus ("sleep") is the personification of sleep. His Greek counterpart is Hypnos. Somnus resided in the underworld. According to Virgil, Somnus was the brother of Death Mors. and according to Ovid, Somnus had a 'thousand' sons, the Somnia ('dream shapes'), who appear in dreams 'mimicking many forms'. Ovid named three of the sons of Somnus: Morpheus. who appears in human guise, Icelos/Phobetor, who appears as beasts, and Phantasos, who appears as inanimate objects.”

(stick with me here ill bring this up later on)  We also get to see in Greek mythology and sometimes roman mythology the twins although are independent follow orders from either Hades (the god of death ) or Nyx (the night) their mother. There are of course a time where they followed Zues and Apollo. Like when Zues had Apollo rescue the corpse of the fallen hero Sarpedon clean his body before giving it the twins who took it back to Lycia for funeral honors. 

But what about the raven? Does he have connection to any Greek or roman mythology?

Here is what I gathered “ Most depictions allude to the appearance and behavior of the wide-ranging common raven (Corvus corax). Because of its black plumage, croaking call, and diet of carrion, the raven is often associated with loss and ill omen. Despite this, its symbolism is complex and alluring. As a talking bird, the raven also represents prophecy and insight, often acting as psychopomps in stories, connecting the spirit with the material world.

French anthropologist Claude Lévi-Strauss proposed a structuralist theory that suggests the raven (like the coyote) obtained mythic status because it was a mediator animal between life and death...“ In Greek mythology, ravens are associated with Apollo, the God of prophecy. They are said to be a symbol of bad luck, and were the gods' messengers in the mortal world. According to the mythological narration, the god Apollo once tasked a white raven to spy on his pregnant lover, Coronis. When the raven brought back the news that Coronis had been unfaithful to him, Apollo scorched the raven in his fury, turning the bird's feathers black.[3] In some versions, the raven had once been a man named Lycius who was transformed into a white raven by Apollo when savage donkeys attacked him and his family.[4]

According to Livy, the Roman general Marcus Valerius Corvus (c. 370–270 BC) had a raven settle on his helmet during a combat with a gigantic Gaul, which distracted the enemy's attention by flying in his face”

Okay so we see that they’re considered to be a bad omen but we also see that they are to represent as prophecy which would explain how the raven knew that Lenore would be dead by sun rise.

What what about the deans disappearance?

in ep 155-156 were annabel finds out that the deans are gone from poppet through slip of tongue.

Which makes me believe that there is a greater force out there if they vanish due to Merry being injured that means there is a powerful being that is able to fix Merry’s arm. Which leads me to…

Who are Merry and Mourns friends/alliances  on the other side?  We know that Dolly mentioned that she herself couldn’t fix the withering and that they needed to plea their case. And we know that Merry and Mourn might be involved since when Poppet did not deny Annabel when she asked that she could speak with them about the withering. Which means that if there is a trial to plea their case and both merry and mourn are involved there might be other staff or maybe a council to vote on whether Ada and Lenore should be spared from the withering.

And since we know that the Deans have to submit to a greater power. It makes me believe that there might be a headmaster of this Academy. In some private academies there are deans of the school who make sure everything is in order from enrollment, dorms, behaviors, and the curriculum While the headmaster external affairs, fundraising of the school, and pretty much handling the bigger picture for the academy. Some private academies in the U.S function like this.

Which might explain how pocket dimension still functions when the deans are no longer around dreamland or in the academy in general.

But what about the little boy?

Although I do believe that he might be the helper of sending the students to and from the pocket dimensions as well as preventing the students from leaving the academy I don’t think he can control everything such as the creations of the maze, manor, dreamland, etc. or how it functions in general.

I also believe that if there is a headmaster he could be the person who can bring dolls into life and give them personalities similar to the deans.

I also think that who ever is allies or friends outside of nevermore or academy in general that they’re the reason why the deans disappeared its due to them (maybe) helping merry with his arm. But unfortunately, don’t have enough information on who could help Merry or who his few friends/allies are.

But are their any more staff aside of the little boy?

I think there is, we see that the wisps patrol the area but do not do or say anything to the students they mostly just watch what the students do.

Which makes me believe that if there is a gatekeeper, (the little boy) than there is a groundskeeper within the academy where the wisps report to of what they saw, or the groundskeeper uses the wasps eyes to watch every student similar to the deans watching Lenore and Annabel though the fly’s eye.

For now that’s all I have- any thoughts? Theories? Would love to hear them. Also all my sources that I use are Wikipeadia and theoi Greek mythology
