I think I’ve only ever posted pride art in July 💀
HOLY SHIT ITS THEMMMMM AAAAAAA 💗💗💗💗
How do you go about writing timeskips and such????
-- A curious bird
An excellent question…the answer to which I am still trying to figure out myself 🫠 I’ll say, I think it’s definitely dependent on the kind of mood you’re going for!
For like a surprise “5 years later” thing, it’s always fun to close with a piece of dialogue and then open the next scene with something really jarring; maybe the characters are standing in the same spot, but the environment is unrecognizable, like a jumpcut in a film. Maybe the characters are acting differently towards each other, arguing over something they used to agree on. Maybe some of them are just not there. Pretty much anything that prompts questions that you can answer as you go along in the story.
For a shorter time skip, I like to make it easier by staging it around an event (like a dinner, a trip, a meeting, etc.) that has a specific time frame that your readers are aware of. Then you can just do a fun little before-and-after, and it’s a little more natural. This is also great if you have exposition you want to offload from one character to another! Instead of writing out the passing-on of info, you can just say something like “by the end of the dinner, Character B had more questions than answers” — cue the follow-up explanations that also serve as a refresher for the audience.
I fear that got a little rambly near the end, but I hope this helped! Happy writing!! 💗💗💐💐
In an animatic of dead man's fiction, what is one scene you would really want to have included??? (either from part one or two of the story, does not matter) ((But KEEP IN MIND if this animatic IS made it will take longer than it should to exist))
Anyways, what is something you really want in it?? And I'll see about if it fits with any lyrics from the song I wanna do! >:)
Ooo!
It’d have to be the scene that started it all — the one from chapter 4 where Will and Monty are riding out on the fields. I think I was listening to “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman and the vision just came to me and never really left.
The chapter itself was one of my favorites to write, because I think it captures the feeling of the story really succinctly; just the feeling of escaping from obligation, literal open horizons, being with someone who is starting to give your life a meaning it’s never had in an environment that’s both thrilling and dangerous…but of course, it can’t last. Will falling from the horse wasn’t planned originally, but I kind of got obsessed with how it mirrored Montresor’s fate later in the story. I made the train and its tracks represent a kind of escape, and neither of them are really able to cross that border it draws in relation to the town. (Also, if you want to get REALLY into deeper meanings, that barrier makes an illusion out of the “open horizons”). Will is injured when Montresor tries to bring him over that line, then denies Prospero’s offer to buy him a ticket. And Montresor has this lethal end brought about by his inability to disentangle himself from his past, literally bound to the line and that need to escape.
But anyway! Sorry for the tangent, Nevermore just has such incredible characters and it’s impossible to be normal about them lmao 🙏
Short answer is the horse ride scene from chapter 4! Slightly longer answer is anything involving the train :) If you decide to do the animatic, have so much fun!!!! Anything you make is gonna be absolutely fantastic 💗💗
“The great revelation had never come. The great revelation perhaps never did come. Instead there were little daily miracles, illuminations, matches struck unexpectedly in the dark.” (Virginia Woolf, To the Lighthouse)
Tallulah and the boys 💐 Next chapter of DMF will be posted soon!! Thank you so much for bearing with me through the hectic update schedule, life has gotten busy FAST 💀💗🙏
I was thinking of it so I hope you know that I thoroughly enjoy reading Dead Man's Fiction (well I hope you know since I've commented before... but still) and I love to discuss it with friends of mine and mostly go "AJHHHHHHUFIG6DIGURDIG7RD" cause it's hard to explain how much I enjoy it and how I think it resonates and is true to the ship! I also have always enjoyed the mood you set, if feels sandy, cowboy, smoke, cards, candles and dying! ^v^ which on a vent diagram that would be both Will and Montressor.
ALSO THE ART YOU MAKE FOR IT IS SOO GOOOOOOOOODD!!
Hope your having an amazing day!!!! Drink water and stuff!

Tell me Monty, is it really not him or did you just not know him well enough to judge?
"Will never could do a damn thing to save his own hide" aha. right.
Lyrics from Ethel Cain’s “Nettles” — a song for which I have a very vivid vision of an animatic that I have no time to complete, so I give you This instead 🙏💗💐

This may be the plot of dead man’s fiction
Bread 🤗
I am on a quest for answers. What animals suit William and montressor best? I think horse or eagle montressor would be funny but I am extremely lost on what will could be. Enlighten me, willtressor professional!
HELLO so sorry it took a minute to get around to this, but good news I’m finally out of college 🙏🙏
Anyways EXCELLENT QUESTION okay I have many thoughts on this…
I’ve always been partial to Will as a dog-coded character, especially after Monty’s flashback in 118. Specifically as a mutt — it matches really well with who he is as a character, not really fitting into one person but instead a mashup of a bunch of personalities and traits/features. As a dog, I could see him as something really scruffy and unkempt, but really good at a specific job? This is the baby I have in mind:
Also bloodhounds. Mostly because of their melty faces 🤗
BUT!
I could also see him as a chameleon of some sort? For obvious reasons. Also, the way they walk is just super funny to me and gives off all the Will vibes lmao 🫶Or also mockingbirds!! Like look at these babies:
Literally gorgeous. They can mimic sounds they hear and also have a protective call that sounds like rasping, which I feel weirdly fits with Will?? (I wonder why…*cough* episode 88 *cough*)
Anyways~
Montresor! You’re definitely right with the eagle and horse, I feel like he could align with something very symbolically robust. To add on to that thought, I really like him as a goat, both because of his spectre’s eyes and because of how versatile their representation is. In a lot of cultures, goats are the ones sacrificed in religious ceremonies, which I think has a really interesting parallel with how Montresor seems to be the one who was blamed for everything that went wrong in the church…the scapeGOAT if you will. Ahahah. (I’m sorry)
^^ This one looked extra stupid so I decided it was perfect for Monty 💗
But because I have to match them… Montresor also works as a dog, I think. @glowstickgoo did drawings of Annabel’s crew as dogs, and thus I subscribe to that gospel…Monty as a golden retriever mix lives rent-free in my brain 🙏
De bebe 🙏🙏🙏
Tallulah doodles!!! Go read Dead Man’s Fiction: Yours Regardless if you haven’t already 👀
SHE IS SO STUNNING OH MY GODDDDDD 🙏🙏💗💗💗 Absolutely gorgeous holy shit giaugwiefgwaieugfuiwe
