I like the thought of polyandry. I feel very alone in that regard.
So i'm watching Lisa Ling's Our America and this episode is on polygamy. One question that always pops up in my mind when i think about this is what about a women having 2 or more husbands? Its always men having multiple wives and what not. Like do some polygamists agree with a woman having a bunch of husbands as well?
When Taking Multiple Husbands
Makes Sense
Multiple Husbands
If we allow men to have plural wives, why are women not allowed to have multiple husbands, why does a woman not have the right to marry more than one man?
There is no point in giving a woman the right to marry multiple husbands, rather that is beneath her dignity and she would not know the lineage of her children, because she is the one who bears the offspring, and it is not permissible for the offspring to be formed from the sperm of a number of men lest the lineage of the child be lost and no one will know who is responsible for bringing up the child; this will lead to breakdown of families, loss of ties between fathers and children, which is not permitted in Islam as it is not in the interests of the woman or of the child or of society as a whole.
Moreover, men are more physically possessive of their wives rather than vice versa, Allah swt created that in their nature whereas women are more patient generally. The stronger and mightier husbands will dominate the wife when they want to, whereas the weaker husbands will have no choice but to accept. This will only lead to domestic turmoil. Imagine one women having to upkeep two separate homes for two husbands, rather than one man providing for two homes fiscally and emotionally.
When the wife goes through pregnancy and feeding the child in its early years, the real husband will find comfort and content. But will the other husbands be patient for such a long period of time? Today, medical science affirms that a woman usually produces only one egg at any one time, whereas the man can produce approximately five-hundred million sperms. Not to mention, a woman's sexual as well generally physical stamina is lesser than that of a man plus let's not forget the menstrual cycles as well as post-birth bleeding. Also the chances of spreading sexually transmitted diseases is increased with multiple partners of the female.
One of the primary functions of marriage is the producing children and establishing a family. It is possible that in a polygamous relationship, numerous women can become pregnant in a short period from the same man. However, in a polyandrous relationship, a woman can only become pregnant once, regardless of how many husbands she sleeps with. This is biological proof that polyandry is unnatural and biologically unsustainable.
To summarize, Allah swt has wisdom beyond our limited knowledge. Despite the fact that we may or may not understand the rules He has set out for us, we must know that there are particular reasons of things being the way they are. After all, who would know more about the creation than the one who created it?
