Mummy by ChrisCalledMeSweetie (T)
Meeting your boyfriend’s parents for the first time can be a bit scary. Especially when your boyfriend is Sherlock Holmes.
“Can I sit here? The other tables are full.”; Mummy Holmes has seen her fair share of Mikey's assistants over the years, once he's started getting them. They'd all seemed rather…underwhelming. But she likes Anthea. She wants to make sure she sticks around, mostly because she's noticed Mikey seems to have taken a somewhat…personal…interest in this one. She'd make an excellent daughter-in-law someday, after all.
During a visit to London to see her boys, Mummy Holmes runs into Anthea at a coffee shop and they have a chat.
“Gladys!” Mrs. Hudson put her teacup and saucer down noisily on the side table.
“She’s just saying what she just heard…”
“That’s enough, Gladys!” Mrs. Turner shot the other woman a vicious look.
“Doctor Watson has just lost his wife! That poor baby is now motherless! He doesn’t need to hear about a mysterious bloke with five different descriptions that you lot just heard these past two days alone.” She stood brushing down her skirt. “Now, if you’ll excuse me…”
Mrs. Hudson smiled as she left, hearing Mrs. Turner berate the woman for again ruining their get-together with gossip and rumors regarding the death of Mary Watson.
Text: Planted rumors still claim a mysterious man. Boys are looking for him.
Text: Who are we to fight fate? I wish them luck in finding him.
Weeks ago:
The man looked around, then quietly locked the door of the unassuming duplex before making his way up the stairs to the street. It was that idyllic time before the storm of children coming home from school and adults from work in the residential area. He was counting on it.
It left a twinge of nostalgia for a childhood long gone, and a twinge of guilt for the now-motherless little girl left behind. The little girl will be fine. It will be taxing on her father for a while, but such is life. Or death in this case.
He lumbered to the bus stop two stops away before boarding. He loosened the tie, freeing the white hair from under the cap, by the next stop. The blue puffer vest is shoved into the floral carryall pulled from inside the coat, changing his body shape to hers, and so on until…
Several kilometers away, the flowy dress under her coat oscillated in the soft breeze as she stepped off the bus. She calmly strolled to a major intersection where she stepped into the red Asti Martin.
Martha Hudson asked her very happy travel companion. “Mission good?”
"Somebody has put a bullet in my boy. And if I ever find out who, I shall turn absolutely monstrous."
“Yes,” Violet Holmes smiled viciously, “A very good mission.”

Sherlock,
Someone told me that you considered my houseplants as uninspiring. Pray tell why I need to be inspired by my houseplants?! And no, I will not get the carnivorous ones you recommended.
Mummy
P.S. I'm inviting John @johnhwatsonblog and Rosie to visit us for your birthday. You don't have to be here.
I— you... that's not what I meant, Mummy. You know perfectly well I would never—
P.S. Finally, some peace and quiet for my birthday. A rare luxury, I must say.
I have a question, thought you would know the answer maybe?
I have been reading a lot of +5k words, and the topic of John's abusive father came a lot, and this one I actually already read your why is that. But what I can't possibly think of an explanation is: some fics portray the Holmes parents as very rigid, cold or even as (forgot my words sorry) ignoring their child's needs (oh it's negligent). Tho I clearly remember them in S4 being so sweet? Would you know why?
Thanks for your wonderful work! Absolutely making my days better since 2018 (I think)
Hey Lovely!
Ah... I don't really habe a good answer, other than a lot of clues Pre-S4 linked John to possibly having an abusive past, or at least a homophobic one which caused his repression.
As for Sherlock, I think you're thinking of S3 Holmes family (because S4 they did a complete 180 it seems with pretending Eurus never existed [which, I mean, FAIR, none of us wanted her there]), but up until S3, no one really knew who they were, and I think it was mostly playing on the fact that Sherlock is very post, ergo was brought up in a very posh society and in turn his family was probably "proper genteel English" that you see portrayed on TV and whatnot. Really it was all up for interpretation, so when Mummy and Daddy Holmes show up on screen in S3, we're thrown for a loop and wonder how the hell these two parents gave us Mycroft and Sherlock, LOL.
Honestly I think it's all just more fanon interpretation than anything else, but I'm not 100 on this.
If anyone has further insight, please do add it here, I'm always a sucker for collecting more lore <3
That said, thank you SO MUCH for your kind words, wow I am HONOURED that you are a long-time fan of my blog, nearly the ENTIRE length I've been here! WOW. Thank you so much <3
Headcanon that (bbc) Sherlock’s blue scarf was originally his mothers (who then passed it on to Mycroft, who then gave it to Sherlock) and that the deerstalker hat was his fathers, who accidentally left it in 221B after a visit.

"This is when Sherlock received his first microscope. He was so happy that he forgot about the other presents. We couldn't take his microscope away from him for a week." Mummy Holmes smiles at the memory.
John looks at little Sherlock, his hair a mess, his microscope in his hands, his eyes wide with surprise. He looks adorable in his well-tailored clothes, simple straight trousers, shirt and sleeveless jumper.
"Oh, and that day we found him asleep with his dog, Redbeard." She directs his gaze to another photo. "They played all day and decided to take their nap under the oldest tree. It was his favourite tree because he could climb the branches which were strong."
Redbeard is curled up in a ball, Sherlock lying on his stomach. A pirate hat hangs in the corner of the picture, a wooden sword around Sherlock's waist. His jumper is damaged, leaves stuck between the wool threads but also in his crazy curls. John can't help but pull out his phone and take a picture.
"Our little Sherlock has given us a run for our money."
John laughs. "And it's still going on."
"But we love him too much." She says lovingly, looking at Sherlock sitting at the table with his father in the next room.
"Oh yes we do." John says, following her gaze.
Sherlock seems to feel his mother and John's gaze on him as he turns to them. Seeing them with a photo album, he grimaces, but stands up anyway. "Is it really necessary to bother John with the photos?"
"Absolutely, it's very crucial." Said John seriously, his eyes sparkling with mischief.
Sherlock rolled his eyes but accepted John's invitation to sit next to him.
"Remember when you made a boat out of the books in the library?" Mummy Holmes asks, showing John the photo taken that day. The boat is very well represented, two tufts of hair sticking out of the pile of books, brown curls and red curls.
"I remember the scolding that followed as these were books that have been in our family for generations. I always said it's dangerous to leave them so easily accessible." Sherlock growled.
John asked him to be nicer by placing a hand on his thigh. Mummy Holmes forgot his remark with a wave of her hand.
"Since you left the house, I don't have many pictures of Mycroft and you." She said pleadingly, wanting to make her point. "How about we take one now?"
Sherlock sighed, but wanting to please his mother-in-law, John agreed sharply. She asked them to stay on the couch and move closer together. Despite his protests, Sherlock did so, resting his arm on the backrest around John's shoulders. The latter put his hand back on his thigh, and pinched it when Sherlock refused to smile.
"You don't have to agree with everything my mother says. I know you want to be liked by my family, but you don't have to do much. As long as you support me enough to want to be my partner, that's enough." Sherlock murmurs.
"I know you love your parents, despite what you let on. I wouldn't want to look bad to people you care about very much."
"They adore you, John. No one can resist your charm, of course they like you very much."
John turned to Sherlock to fall into his serious gaze.
"Unless you don't hurt me." Sherlock grinned. "No one can guarantee your safety, not me, not Mycroft."
John smiled, "I'll be careful then."
At that moment, a camera sound echoes around the room. Sherlock and John came out of their bubble, having completely forgotten about the photograph.
Mummy Holmes showed them the picture, a proud smile on her lips. They look at each other, their bodies leaning towards each other, John smiling at a serious but loving looking Sherlock.
"You two are so adorable. I'll print it out and put it in the photo album." She says as she leaves.
Sherlock's father comes into the room, giving the couple a sorry look. "She'll show the picture to everyone."
"Stop telling them nonsense." Screams Mummy Holmes from the other room. This makes the three men laugh.
