I’m going to be combining May and June for this monthly wrap-up because I honestly didn’t read enough in those two months for separate posts. As of yesterday, I’ve reached the halfway mark for my goal of 45 books this year. Read below the cut for more info on the books I’ve read the last two months!

Here There Are Monsters (Amelinda Bérubé) goodreads

Nejma (Nayyirah Waheed) goodreads

God. Every time I read Nayyirah Waheed’s work, I cry and cry and cry. It is so beautiful and raw and strong. If you haven’t read any of their work before, you definitely need to do it now. You won’t regret it.

Sidelined (Suzanne Baltsar) goodreads

Six of Crows (Leigh Bardugo) goodreads

This is the second time I’ve read SoC and this time, I read it out loud to my roommate/best friend. If you don’t already know, this duology is my all time favourite. I even have a tattoo dedicated to it. I highly recommend it to every single person who asks for recommendations. If only I could put my thoughts and feelings for these books into a review like I’ve been trying to do since the first time I read it.

Love & Luck (Jenna Evans Welch) goodreads

“This was the thing I'd lost track of this summer. That being chosen--or not chosen--was not the thing that made me valuable. I was valuable regardless. I was enough, all on my own.”

Love & Luck is the second book I’ve read by Jenna Evans Welch. You can read my review of her first book here. I have to say I really enjoy her writing and characters. Such sweet, wonderful reads.

Eliza and Her Monsters (Francesca Zappia) goodreads

“Disappearing is an art form, and I am its queen.”

This book gutted me. I wasn’t expecting the way the last 1/3 of the book went. I was literally sitting up at 3am sobbing because I couldn’t put the book down until I was done. My husband was like “are you okay?” and laughed when I just pointed at the book. It was SO good. I can’t wait to write a full review soon!

Well, this is awkward.

So, @silvercanadian and I started a discussion about our story universe (which Frosted Heart and Dishonoured Guardian both take place in), and we got into the topic of... Memes. We have 4 characters who are all future protagonists who don't know what memes are, and a villain/hero from the future, who studied ancient memes in school. So... Yeah. Will update with funny bits of this.

Metro Art: February Wrap-Up 

Metro Art held a variety of free, public events this February including an exclusive Shakespearean themed Valentine’s Day Tour, an evening of Tango, a performance by the Vardan Ovsepian Chamber Ensemble and  three tours of artworks in rail stations.

The Vardan Ovsepian Chamber Ensemble brought their provocative arrangements integrating elements of western classical forms, folk and jazz improv to Union Station’s Historic Ticketing Hall.

Valentine’s Day Art Tour, February 12

Metro Art Moves conducted a special tour in collaboration with the Independent Shakespeare Co. featuring live performances of select scenes from Shakespearean plays while traveling on the Metro Gold Line Extension.

Metro Art Presents: Tangótico, Carlos Barrionuevo & Mayte Valdes, February 14

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Metro Art hosted an evening of Tango in Union Station’s Historic Ticketing Hall with performances throughout the night by acclaimed dancers Carlos Barrionuevo and Mayte Valdes accompanied by live orchestra Tangótico, led by Matias Piegari.

Public Art Tours, Feburary 4, 5, 12

Metro Art Moves is a free series of regularly scheduled and special tours of artwork in the Metro Rail system. This month we conducted free tours viewing artworks in our rail systems along with an extensive art tour exploring art and architecture of Union Station
