I have a feeling I'm going to be developing a strong dislike of roller bearings in the coming days. Just a hunch, but who knows I might be pleasantly surprised. Wouldn't bet on it though.
I just dropped a gramophone needle. On a partially carpeted floor. Going to search with a magnet, hopefully find it with no stabbing involved!

So, Having a closer look at the gramophone as is, next time will be starting to take it apart. Specific descriptions will be on the images.
As you can see, the case is not in the best condition. Various rips and tears, ripples where the fabric has come away from the box (I cannot tell you what the fabric is, some kind of fake leather I think). Also plenty of rust on the hinges and some of the screws, and someone has been sloppy with a black polish at some point I suspect.
The 'horn' is interesting, using the back of the lid like that. If you look up portable gramophones, most use the bottom part to amplify the sound. There is a clip to
And a look at the deck. Once again plenty of rust and more annoyingly mould, as I'm not confident how to best treat that.
Going to leave this here, true disassembly next time. After that a look at what I can find out based on markings and such, but for now know it was built in April 1927.
