Something to Learn- Dick & Damian

This would be set during the Batman & Robin Reborn time period (Bruce Quest, RedRobin, After Battle for the Cowl)

Before he was with Bruce, Dick grew up speaking English and Romani. Damian grew up with Arabic, Chinese, and English as the dominantly spoken languages around him. One night, while on the field together, Robin accidentally slips into speaking Arabic.

It's a simple mistake, but Damian is guarded. He knows better, living under the watch of Grayson doesn’t change who he is and how he was raided. Dick understands this, Damian is still new to living with him and while some traits are just who he is others are trauma. Dick opens up on his own past as a multilingual child, a way to hopefully let Damian learn to break the ice freezing him off from Dick.

Dick lost more than just his parents that night at the circus, not just this home but a part of his culture he could never get back. Dick still uses Romani where he can but it's not the same, and when he was a kid there were even less ways to do so.

Not wanting Damian to lose another pices of the culture he grew up with while living in America Dick offers to learn if Damian's willing to teach.

Over their time together, Damian starts to teach Dick giving them to another way to communicate together.

When Bruce eventually comes back from his travel threw time, he already knows Arabic and is able to talk to Damian in the language. But it isn't the same dialect Damian though Dick. Bruce is his farther, but Dick is more than just his brother.

This also feeds into my story "My Robin", which is Mary Grayson's final words from her perspective. This reflects on that moment in time, on why her final words were "My Robin”. They were also as mentioned said in Roman having huge impact on Dick and how he views his culture (and later his view on teaching his daughter this part of her heritage -in my AU Roy is a Trans Guy so Lian is the child of Dick and Roy because it’s fun. The My Robin part of the story can easily be written without the Lian part but I like the Lian part. It’s not just giving dick a Child it’s giving him a child with 2 different close-practice cultures (Roy and his native background), a partner with their own life struggles which doesn’t include being adopted by a rich guy but is impacted by being adopted by a rich guy vigilante who lets his kid be a sidekick

July 19th, 2003 - I am 11 years old and Teen Titans just aired for the first time on Cartoon Network (episode: Final Exam). Unfortunately I do not have strong memories of my experience first witnessing this show but I can tell you it’s strongly loved and a favorite.

— Episode: “Sisters” - The episode opens with Robin and Starfire on a ferris-wheel while watching fireworks.

It is at this point where I knew who my favorite characters of Teen Titans were, and I had a crush/attraction to Robin. Robin seems calm, genuine, and caring. He is gentle with the way he treats Starfire. The feelings their relationship gave me were profound. Someday, I would like to find my own Robin.®️💫

February 6th, 2009 - I am 17 years old. A teenager!! But not a teen titan lol. Just your average student in high school.

I’m in class and a boy enters the room. He’s someone I hardly even know. Me, being a random, hyper, and a bit obnoxious teenager I slip him a short hand-written note. This begins a future together…

Two 17 years olds talked for a small while before they began to date.

Currently, in September 2025 - It’s been 16 years since I gave that boy that trusty note. We celebrated our 10th year being married over the summer. We’re no longer kids but man and woman. I am happy to know I got to meet and fall in love with ‘my Robin’ since we were teens… And my husband can be very much so like him too (similarities in personality type, actions, intentions, and words 😍).

It is currently 5:30 am as I write this with him snoozing beside me in bed 💕
