damian: hey idiots, you just said all of our names, in the middle of the street

a collective sigh can be heard as everyone goes home dissapointed in themselves, except damian who is just dissapointed in everyone else

Something to Learn- Dick & Damian

This would be set during the Batman & Robin Reborn time period (Bruce Quest, RedRobin, After Battle for the Cowl)

Before he was with Bruce, Dick grew up speaking English and Romani. Damian grew up with Arabic, Chinese, and English as the dominantly spoken languages around him. One night, while on the field together, Robin accidentally slips into speaking Arabic.

It's a simple mistake, but Damian is guarded. He knows better, living under the watch of Grayson doesn’t change who he is and how he was raided. Dick understands this, Damian is still new to living with him and while some traits are just who he is others are trauma. Dick opens up on his own past as a multilingual child, a way to hopefully let Damian learn to break the ice freezing him off from Dick.

Dick lost more than just his parents that night at the circus, not just this home but a part of his culture he could never get back. Dick still uses Romani where he can but it's not the same, and when he was a kid there were even less ways to do so.

Not wanting Damian to lose another pices of the culture he grew up with while living in America Dick offers to learn if Damian's willing to teach.

Over their time together, Damian starts to teach Dick giving them to another way to communicate together.

When Bruce eventually comes back from his travel threw time, he already knows Arabic and is able to talk to Damian in the language. But it isn't the same dialect Damian though Dick. Bruce is his farther, but Dick is more than just his brother.

This also feeds into my story "My Robin", which is Mary Grayson's final words from her perspective. This reflects on that moment in time, on why her final words were "My Robin”. They were also as mentioned said in Roman having huge impact on Dick and how he views his culture (and later his view on teaching his daughter this part of her heritage -in my AU Roy is a Trans Guy so Lian is the child of Dick and Roy because it’s fun. The My Robin part of the story can easily be written without the Lian part but I like the Lian part. It’s not just giving dick a Child it’s giving him a child with 2 different close-practice cultures (Roy and his native background), a partner with their own life struggles which doesn’t include being adopted by a rich guy but is impacted by being adopted by a rich guy vigilante who lets his kid be a sidekick

Today I thought about if Dick had to be Batman and he was alone. Like Battle for the Cowl whatever, and people are dressing up as Batman (cough Jason) and being all dumb and murdery and he has to take up this mantle

And then everyone is gone.

Damian’s not there/doesn’t exist/wasn’t sent by his mother in the first place, Tim’s gone, Jason’s fricking crazy, maybe Steph doesn’t do batgirl and stays spoiler so she’s not involved with him. Maybe even Alfred isn’t there (be it retirement, death, whatever)

People don’t like Dick becoming Batman. Some think it’s weird, like he’s wearing his father’s skin (as if Dick doesn’t already feel that way), some think it’s disrespectful, maybe some of his friends are mad and consider him a hypocrite cause he said he didn’t want to be Batman. I think his closest friends would have to be unaware/away cause I don’t think realistically they’d be awful about it. So he’s just kind of alone.

He does his best, does a lot of investigative work and maybe even ends up leaning towards how Bruce was in the early days - less of the vengeance thing but more of the “Batman is a shadow/urban legend” type thing (although I’d find it funny and fitting that he’d show himself to children and therefore kids think it’a a secret only for them, cause they can see Batman and adults don’t really).

But Dick is losing himself in this. Not exactly into the anger but some self loathing and loneliness. He doesn’t know what to do and he doesn’t know how to move on from this. He’s scared to try and change the Batman mantle to fit himself more which just makes him end up hiding more and more.

And then Bruce comes back.

And he finds his eldest son as Batman, a mantle he didn’t want him to take up (not because he’s a bitch but because he knows Dick doesn’t want it and Bruce thinks Nightwing is better anyways) and all alone and he’s just all… what even the heck happened here

Ha, okay. Just little characterization/fun fact things. 

Dick isn’t a fan of Alfred’s cucumber sandwiches. 

...like consistently, not a fan lol. 

Dick also doesn’t like cranberry muffins! 

But one of his favorite Alfred dishes is crab stuffed mushrooms (weirdo). 

Dick likes to watch nature documentaries to relax...and as a result he knows a lot of random animal fun facts. 

He really overthinks mystery tv lol...even Scooby-doo (which he apparently has watched with the Titans/Wally before lol? cute).

Dick uses fancy English Dunhill aftershave, which might be why he has that reputation for smelling good haha? Thank Alfred for that peeps. 

Dick tends to have trouble making his home feel like home. He keeps very busy and doesn’t usually care about stuff, so that translates into very minimal decoration...or not even removing his stuff from storage/boxes without some cajoling. 

though once he does finally decorate lol, it does tend to be very sentimental, meaningful items pretty much exclusively (ie family photos, flying grayson poster, etc.)

And he likes mint chocolate chip ice cream according to @hood-ex! I have no idea where that is from but I love it. 

I think that’s all I feel like doing for now. Maybe I’ll add some more later, idk. Or other people could add little details too.
