Had a #dermatology review today, a periodic review of my skin whilst undergoing #uvbphototherapy treatment for my #vitiligo. My skin is progressing well, my patches do seem to be #repigmenting and she was happy with the condition of my skin despite my "overexposure" to natural sunlight (as I have been away 4 times in the last 6 months) One thing we did talk about is how my #skincondition is perceived by others within the media industry and how often brands have professionally retouched my images to remove my patches (and often my #stretchmarks too) Please know this...I am very proud of my skin, the patches and scars make me unique and help tell my story. By editing my images to remove my patches or scars you are in fact deeming that my skin condition is in someway a flaw or something that needs to be erased. I can assure you; no part of me needs eradicating. Please leave me just the way you find me. Don't ever be ashamed of the scars life has left you with. A scar means the hurt is over and the wound is closed. It means you conquered the pain, learned a lesson, grew stronger, and moved forward. A scar is the tattoo of a triumph to be proud of. Don't allow your scars to hold you hostage. Don't allow them to make you live your life in fear. You can't make the scars in your life disappear, but you can change the way you see them. You can start seeing your scars as a sign of strength and not pain.

My bone condition is called Blount's disease. It can be mistaken for rickets but it's not as a result of lack of vitamin D. Its a congenital condition meaning I was bone with it and the deformity just became severe with time. I've had three surgeries as a result in efforts to correct it. They weren't very successful but am grateful I can walk even with the pain. I love my scars. I never want them to fade away. They are like my involuntary tattoos.
