TALsounds - “Disgrace”
Love Sick [Ba Da Bing, 2017]
TALSOUNDS Lighter + Lifter cassette (Hausu Mountain)
Been a deep lover of GOOD WILLSMITH since FRR OG/ former Crank editor/ The Out Door turnstyler Marc Masters pointed me down their path of dusted organia, so it’s no surprise that his November 2016 column for bandcamp daily - Hi Bias - highlights the ascendent synth drift of Natalie Chami, one third of Good Willsmith and 1/1 (that’s 100% for those of you who forgot your maths after 4th grade) of TALsounds’ clip’d synth quirk delirium.
Superb accompaniment to cold nights basking in the glow of our screens.
psyched on natalies newest tape. so good.
SCW-59: cw19 asphodel - aokigahara, the black sea of trees | TALsounds & steffi neuhuber - barren is c72 | split Steffi Neuhuber and Natalie Chami (TALsounds), two of the three founders of Screaming Claws, recently put out a split with Turkish sound project Asphodel (Atay İlgün / Alper Yıldırım) on German label Cosmic Winnetou (run by Screaming Claws collaborator Guenter Schlienz). "Barren Is," a series of Chami and Neuhuber's live sessions, was recorded without overdubs in Chami's Chicago apartment. Neuhuber, who lived with Chami for a month after a chance meeting at an experimental show, uses contrabass recorder, while Chami provides vocals, synths, and loops. From Cosmic Winnetou: "The musicians sought to build a shared language in their short time together, pieced together from delay trails, long loops, suspended synth tones, and whispered vocalization." chrome tape, home-dubbed in real time. professionally printed j-card. artwork by sylvia monnier. limited to 75 hand-numbered copies. The tape is available for purchase here: http://cosmicwinnetou.blogspot.de/2014/05/cw19.html
I got to see Natalie Chami of Good Willsmith perform at TALsounds last Friday at the Observatory. It blew my mind. Aside from outstanding Synth work, Natalie has an operatic voice, which she studied at Northwestern University.
SCW47 / SCR8: This week's Screaming Claws release unites the improvised live feeds of an international cast of ambient / drone artists into a session of overlapping sustained tones. @talsounds (Natalie Chami) and @cosmic-winnetou(Gunter Schlienz) pour synth textures onto the canvas as @greyghost (Brian Griffith) and @s-safari (Steffi Neuhuber) ornament the periphery with bass and contrabass recorder flourishes. Though geographically disconnected, the quartet cohere into a responsive live unit with their layered outputs, finding room in the mix for passages of hushed vocal leads and chaotic electronics.

140: Nicholas Davis
In episode 140, of Notes and Bolts, we have Nicholas Davis on the program. Having prior worked with Natalie Chami (TALsounds), as well as several other current luminaries in the Chicago ambient music scene, Nicholas has been slowly building glacial forms and sounds. His are some of the most interesting pieces being created at the moment!
