Semi-friendly reminder I’m an Indigenous author and I can write about whatever I want, actually. Please stop sending me inbox messages not to use Raven Mockers because they’re sacred or evil. I’m so annoyed to be posting this again.
1) they can be triggering, why I put a TW, but (at least to me and my family) they’re not really sacred. They’re like supernatural vultures, honestly
2) Where’s the energy for the Nunnehi in Monster Boyband or Thunderbirds in any of those posts? What about my Piasa Bird series? My Mishipeshu post? Or anything else on my “Indigenous Monsters” Masterlist? It’s literally only for Raven Mockers and I don’t get it.
3) Do you write letters to Disney and Marvel? Do you comment on their posts about Wakanda (Wakonta/Wakonda is the Creator to many Indigenous Peoples. They pronounce it the same and the original comic creator literally said he got it from Indigenous Peoples)? Do you say anything about Thunderbird (John Proudstar)? No?? Then leave me alone oh my God(s)
4) Do you come for all these movies/TV shows/games/podcasts using the Sk*nW*lk*r or W*nd*g* names? They butcher what they actually are and look like, and make them into slasher fic monsters, but that’s okay? Get off my back
5) If you don’t know someone’s race!! Take a second to look at their profile!! Literally one of my most popular posts rn is a fuck Trump/fuck ICE post where I mention I’m Indigenous. It’s in the three post feature at the top of my profile if you click on it. It’s right under the Ask Me button.
Anyway, are you over 18 and love monsters? Check out my Patreon 🫶
Just saw a post about the (sorry for using the appropriated word but ppl likely won’t know what it is on native spelling of the word) wendigo, and man I hate how the white colonists took native folklore and appropriated it over time :( (also with pop culture skinwalkers being terrible and insensitive). I say we take folklore from Americans and other European invaders and appropriate their stuff to make it fair.
For reference I am a white person i fucking hate my ancestors and I try to be as best as I can, it might not be fully in my control to do smth like this well but I think it would be fun.
As I am specifically Irish American(4th generation) I do feel some connection to my heritage being destroyed by the British, as if you are familiar with it the British were fucking tyrants and completely wiped out our religion, language, and relegated our folklore to fairy tales, take for example leprechauns which are NOT just jolly little fellows who hide gold but instead being morally gray fae who enjoyed tricking and deceiving people, even going as far as to spirit away children. They also were originally dressed in red with a conic hat, and the green clothes, buckled shoes, and top hat are all taken from the garb commonly worn by Irish immigrants in the Elizabethan period.
Anyway what British folklore can we mess with?
Looking at the Wikipedia page for English legendary creatures most of our options are now regarded as generic high fantasy. Perhaps this is due to Tolkien being English and dnd being based on it as well? Not sure, but if anyone has ideas reply to this post it’d be totally cool
Some of my fave Métis folklore creatures:
Rou garou: from the french loup garou, a werewolf that can shapeshift like many cree stories.
Little men: brownies, fairies, or naiads/water nymphs, (fae) that use leaves as boats.
Whiitegoos: white monsters who eat children at night, from the cree wendigo(ak).
Men’s bathroom? Women’s bathroom? Gender neutral bathroom?? No thanks I’d rather make a bet with two crows and blast ass over a buffalo carcass
Taniwha (2018)
My finished piece for my pulp fiction assignment, about Wesakechak’s mom and her adventures as a decapitated head! It was super fun and I really like how it came out
Oh to have a Piasa Bird lover who takes you to his nest and fucks you until you’re a sobbing mess. Him rutting his cock in and out of you as he growls how humans have ruined his river, his home, and the least you can do is take his cock as the beginnings of a semblance of an apology.
