The Beatles - Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End/(Her Majesty)

The unbeatable 1-2-3-(4) punch that takes us out of Abbey Road. Best lullaby, leading into the best Cowboy Bebop reference/unison chorus/horn fanfare, leading into a series of spectacular guitar solos and the gorgeous sustained harmonics of “and in the end/the love you take/is equal to the love/you make.” It’s like that bit at the end of The Muppet Movie where everything explodes and the ceiling caves in with a shower of sparks and then suddenly there’s a rainbow, like a great big holistic sustained chord tying everything together.

and then Her Majesty, which is just a really cute little digestif tacked on the end after all that grandiosity. I like it.

yes. yep. i have a friend who’s a dodgers fan AND a packers fan and i genuinely trust him slightly less than i would someone who wasn’t so wrong about sports. fandom is the best

AH THE PACKERS, no i don't know that much about football but my in-laws have been a football family this winter and we watch the games together although i just kind of end up wondering where matt saracen and landry are in all the hubbub. maybe next winter, football. i'm not sure what it's going to be like when they start airing the new season of baseball but i've seen some nice casting spoilers so hopefully the showrunners will let the mytharc play out without too much character assasination.

I'm glad I went! It was interesting, and I was correct about it being an instrument that doesn't youtubify well.

The lower pitches had some of that chest rumble/goose bumps on the back of the neck resonance you can't get out of laptop speakers. And it was complicated! The performer needed an assistant to help her press buttons and knobs and stuff, on account of only possessing the median human number of hands.

It sounded brassier than I expected (compared to using the "Organ" mode on an electric keyboard, or listening to a cheap mp3 of this song), which, like. Makes sense. Also, not quite as full/resonant (again, as the imaginary one in my head) but this may have been the venue. (At intermission there was a helpful mini-tutorial on What Is Pipe Organ so I'm more informed about Things maybe.)

Where did you hear them?

I think I'd be interested in hearing it used in more contemporary music, and maybe one with a wider range of pitches.
