ISTJ: What do memories of yours look like? I mean, are they like a movie or just pictures?
INFJ: Okay, I’ve got to say. I’m a bit shocked cause that’s the kind of question that I always ask people, but never get asked myself, so this is a new experience for me. But I’d honestly say neither, really. A few pictures like some blurry old photos, but the rest is just abstract information about what happened where and who was there etc., but that’s it really. It’s all pretty fragmented and very rudimentary.
ISTJ: Really? But how does that work? How do you remember anything then?
INFJ: I don’t know. I usually don’t.
ISTJ: These pictures that you have, are they from your own perspective?
INFJ: Well, yes. It’s what I saw in that moment. Why, aren’t your memories from your own perspective?
ISTJ: Not all of them. Sometimes I can watch myself from the outside doing stuff.
INFJ: How does that work?
ISTJ: I think it has to do with my emotions in that moment. When I remember sitting on the couch, it’s such a normal regular thing that I don’t really associate it with a strong emotion, so I guess it doesn’t get encoded in my memory with the scene, so I see myself from the outside in those moments.
INFJ: That is so interesting. But the memories that you have from your own perspective, the ones encoded with an emotion, when you open that memory, so to speak, do you relive those feelings or is it more like the simple knowledge ‘I was happy’?
ISTJ: I’d say it’s like an echo. I don’t really feel it again, but I get a sense of it again in a way.
INFJ: Fascinating. I don’t really exist in my memories. I mean, the blurry pictures are from my perspective, but I have no idea what I thought or felt in any memory. I don’t get any echos. When I’m lucky, I have some abstract knowledge stored somewhere like ‘I liked this place’ or ‘I laughed a lot that night’, but no memory of me laughing or feeling anything. Just my abstract takeaway from the moment.
ISTJ: Then how do you reanalyse a situation? For example, I had this fight with a colleague recently and it got really emotional, but on the weekend afterwards, I took a look at the situation again now that I had calmed down and so I played it back moment by moment and listened to her words again and interpreted them differently in hindsight than I did in the heat of the moment.
INFJ: ... you can do that? Like for real? That sounds like witchcraft to me.
how would you describe the ni function ( as a ni-dom i mean)
Constantly looking for meaning in things. Even random things. As if everything happening in the surface must have a reason or a deeper meaning for my life. Or seeing random things and seeing them as a metaphor for something else. Not doing it with effort but naturally, not even deliberately as most of the times it just happens and then you feel like that is ‘the’ meaning of the thing.
And not telling anyone in my case, I’m INTJ (-T), and kinda appearing like a rational person because I express myself through my aux TE so I keep all these things inside usually. lol my mother thought I was some kind of cynical atheist or smth even though I am definitely not.
Of course this ‘meaning’ is subjective, if someone is spiritual they might make it so, if they’re not they’ll go for something else, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that things are all connected in a meaningful way. As far as I remember I always lived in my own head and filtered everything through my own...uh...idk how to call it, cause it wasn’t ethics/values and it wasn’t objective criteria either, that’s how I understood that I wasn’t F or T dom, cause I sure have personal ethics and objective criteria but they come after.
Idk if this makes sense, I hope it does, also because I haven’t re-read my mbti books in a while and I’m not used to write about functions, I’m just used to read them.
I stumbled on my early teenage journal and it was funny to read how I wrote pages of thoughts about main ideologies, trying to make sense of them in relation to how I saw the world, or how as a child I was dead set on the other forms of life existing in the universe, and I had my own explanation that, getting older, I just honed with better ‘knowledge’ (amaterish ofc, I’m not an expert) but basically stayed the same. Or how I always thought that everyone was potentially bi/sexual and I just didn’t get why everyone was so full of problems but later it turned out that the bi/sexual was me lol. But I digressed.
So I’d also say it’s an interest in ideas, be it established (or less) ideologies, dreams or whatever. Not in a broad way (my ex was an INTP, so I high NE user and I could see how different we were as he was interested in ideas too but in a broader sense while I was very selective and I only cared about those that fit my own ‘vision’ kind of) but in a deep way. Which doesn’t mean you can’t be broad, but that you usually go deeper and it lasts longer, or forever.
But also, thinking about memories and the past, it kinda makes you rewrite it. We have SE as inferior so we remember the past objectively, not in the impressionist, detailed and subjective kinda way SI does, with sensations connected and all. I subconsciously erase memories, when they don’t ‘match’ with the way I am now. Because NI is like I have an ideal of how I 'have to’ be, in order to be the best version of myself, also. So when the past doesn’t match with it I forget it. I realized it growing up actually, and remembering things and laughing at this because this ‘ideal’ evolves and with it memories. I don’t really forget things btw, but they just don’t come up anymore.
Also NI is closely connected to the subconscious so those infamous a-ha moments exist but they’re not so magic, if you’re NI user you’re used to them and you kinda rely on them, like, whenever I write something and I’m stuck on some logistic problem I don’t worry cause I know the solution will come, and after a couple of days I might be walking with the dogs and bam-here it is, super easy. I know this happens to other types as well btw, especially NI users. I think it’s the frequency and the feeling of it being natural that makes you understand it’s a dominant function.
I don’t trust much online descriptions of NI cause all that mystic/genius thing is weird, it makes INFJs appear as mystical something and INTJs as chess champions something, not to mention it assumes every INTJs is successful in work/studies, and maybe it’s like this in meritocratic societies but in my country where connections are more important, my lack of ability to kiss asses when needed, my introvertion (shyness during childhood) made me lose opportunities that sociable colleagues caught instead, even tho I was better for the task, cause I’m quicker and more efficient. But I also have a hard time adjusting in the beginning. Bureaucratic stuff like slow university workings (and lol phone rates)? I am terrible at them, while it seems that everyone else gets them immediately.
All the future oriented thing that is very productive and efficient is TE working actually, because being concerned by future implications doesn’t always mean being efficient. Just thinking about the future. I mean I have in mind the eulogy for my father since he started getting old, and every time I do something I know I’ll regret it in the future, i.e. when the person will be dead, but do I do something about it? Nope.
Also speaking of NI I’ll mention inferior SE, which makes it hard to focus on the here and now. I’m a good observer of things I like, I notice nature and birds so well and voices/accents, and living with a SE-dom sister made me better at improvising, or rather, following her antics since she’s the type who never plans anything and drags me along lol. My first job was in a quick paced environment and with very practical money related tasks, so I had a hard time in the beginning and I felt stupid since most colleagues were clearly...uh...superficial people with minimum culture and interests, but then I learned and I became really good at it, even tho it was very very tiring for me to always be in the here and now.
And speaking of inferior SE how not to mention the ‘in the grip’ moments that I have so often where I buy stuff, eat what I shouldn’t and easily got drunk, for a while I even took some clubbing persona that was totally like a very bad version of an ESFP, feeling shitty later because it wasn’t me. So when I found that NI-doms can be like this I was wow, that was me back in the crazy days.
INTJ 5w4: I might seem like an asshole, but I take painting classes on weekends and drink wine. I'm cultured. You just can't see it because you're too pedestrian in attitude.
INTJ 5w6: I might seem like an asshole, and I AM an asshole. This world MADE me an asshole, and people like YOU aren't helping. Look at you, just...BREATHING over there.
When you realize you have no Te to speak of but you relate to the Ni parts of an INTJ description and were confusing it for Te. Well, I guess I’m an INFJ now.
Wait, haven’t we seen this guy before? No, it’s not because Weyoun is a clone, it’s because Jeffrey Combs played another DS9 villain, Brunt. They even appeared in the same episode once, though sadly, not in the same scene.
Two Weyouns once appeared in the same episode, too, because the character we know as Weyoun is actually a series of clones (Weyouns 4-8 during the run of DS9, to be specific). However, because he’s genetically engineered to do his job perfectly, he always has the same personality, even when he turns out “defective.” In MBTI, your type is generally a function of nature rather than nurture—you are wired the way you’re wired no matter what, though personal experience will influence how your functions manifest. In Weyoun’s case, his “nature” is embedded in his DNA by those who “nurture” him, the Founders he reveres as gods.
Dominant Function: (Ni) Introverted Intuition, “The Labyrinth”
Weyoun believes in the mythos of the Dominion—that the Founders are gods who bring order to the galaxy. He believes that the Dominion will endure for thousands of years after the Federation is gone, and works to advance their holdings and influence with every move he makes. He believes that his goals are divinely inspired by the Founders, perfect and not to be questioned.
Even the defective Weyoun 6 still holds the Founders in awe and reverence, even though he awakens from the cloning process with the inexplicable idea that the Dominion’s war efforts are wrong.
Weyoun always works with a hidden agenda, a far-sighted goal for the Dominion’s gain—Bashir’s genetically engineered friends can tell that he’s thinking big picture, years or centuries ahead. He arranges peace-talks with the Federation over a new proposed border, playing nice and taking an apparently disadvantageous deal when actually it will give the Dominion access to a planet with a fungus helpful to their Ketracel-white production. He and Sisko make small talk about the minefield Starfleet has put up in front of the wormhole, but both Intuitives know that the real meaning of the conversation is that they’re about to go to war.
Weyoun sizes people up quickly, searching for the clue that will give him the advantage over his diplomatic targets. Damar accuses the whole Weyoun line of having an innate flaw of overconfidence, never doubting the success of their vision. The final Weyoun understands immediately when Damar’s rebellion destroys a cloning facility, that Damar’s true goal is to keep any more Weyouns from being made.
(Although do we seriously believe Weyoun doesn’t have more copies of himself squirreled away somewhere? Please.)
Auxiliary Function: (Fe) Extraverted Feeling, “The Garden Fountain”
The Dominion’s aim is to conquer and subdue all worlds in the galaxy, but Weyoun makes it sound like a wonderful club that you’d be silly not to join.
Weyoun speaks with grace and eloquence, aiming for compromise and mutually beneficial agreements (in fact, his negotiating tactics have a lot in common with those of Quark, an ESFJ). He’s politically adept, and genuinely tries to have good working relationships even with those he disagrees with. In diplomatic discussions, he can play wounded as well as confident, keeping his adversaries off balance so he can emotionally ply them to get what he wants.
Weyoun orchestrates the alliance with the Breen, treating them like old friends as soon as the deal is made. This infuriates Damar, who Weyoun snubs in order to keep him in his place. When the Cardassians start rebelling, Weyoun gives grand speeches about the spirit of cooperation. He feigns sadness that he has to order mass executions in order to ensure obedience, gaslighting the people into believing their deaths are their own fault.
The “defective” Weyoun 6 still wants the Dominion to succeed, but he also wants peace for all people. He can’t completely betray the Founders, and so he defects to Odo, the only Founder on the opposite side of the war, hoping to start a process that will convince the other Founders to change the Dominion’s course. He fails, but still desires Odo’s favor and blessing before he dies.
Weyoun's emotionally manipulative tactics do have consequences.
Weyoun 5 dies in a mysterious transporter accident, possibly arranged after Damar got sick of his arrogance. Weyoun 7 gets himself killed after prodding Ezri about her feelings for Bashir, thus enraging Worf, who snaps his neck. Weyoun 8 gets himself killed after mocking Damar’s rebellion, and the destruction of the planet, prompting Garak to shoot him.
He dies in service to his Founder, loyal to the end.
(But again, there are more of him, right?)
Tertiary Function: (Ti) Introverted Thinking, “The Laboratory”
Weyoun can be cold and direct when he needs to be, as when he demands the removal of the minefield. He quickly segues into flattering persuasion mode afterward, of course. He delivers sharp insults when necessary as well, never afraid to call out Dukat’s tiresome egotism or Damar’s stupidity. He incisively interrogates the intruding Jake and Nog, assuming they’re conspiring against him, but when they lead him to Dr. Giger’s immortality machine, he’s intrigued by the mad scientist’s ideas.
Auxiliary Function: (Se) Extraverted Sensing, “The Kitchens”
The Founders did not see fit to create the Vorta with a sense of aesthetics. With his weak eyes, Weyoun can’t appreciate art, though he does try. He examines Ziyal’s paintings and asks Kira if they’re “good.” She’s not helpful, and Weyoun decides if the Founders had needed him to enjoy art to do his job, they’d have programmed him with the ability.
Weyoun 6, however, decides to indulge when he defects. Freed from the constraints of his duty, he goes a little crazy trying all kinds of new foods from the replicator. He takes particular delight in pepperoni pizza. The normal Weyoun disdains his working partner Damar for his obvious drunkenness, while at the same time appearing to have a secret hope of watching the captive Worf and Ezri “comfort each other.”
No wonder Worf snapped his neck.
Fortunately, there’s another Weyoun waiting to take his place, because the universe can’t get rid of him that easily (I believe in Weyoun 9, is what I’m saying).
INTJ: So today there was an anime convention, and I suggested INFJ to come with me, mostly due to the fact that I’m a huge anime fan and I didn’t want to go alone. So INFJ came with me and assisted me with my merch shopping.
INFJ: Well, I like anime, but I am not such a huge fan as INTJ is, but I thought that it would be a great experience to go.
INTJ: And it was, though the place was packed, and the main room was closed and loud Japanese music blasted from loudspeakers, so I had to go out to the open space to recover from the noise overload. It was more endurable than a party, though. But the anime was worth it.
INFJ: So we had lunch, INTJ bought some anime stuff and spent all the money she had so I ended up borrowing her. Everything was good, until...
INTJ: A random guy appeared and grinned at us while saying “Free Hugs!” And both of us stood frozen, neither of us wanting to do it. But I was faster, and I was not going to do it. I pushed INFJ to the guy, and she had to do the hug thing. I was saved.
INFJ: But I was not!
INTJ: I’m sorry, but at the same time I’m relieved.
INFJ: I can’t explain how awkward was that situation for me. in my head I was conscious about every movement I had to make. Thankfully it was a short hug, and when the guy released me, I was laughing anxiously, and then he looked at me and screamed: “IKE IKE III!” with a weird hand gesture, and I quickly left the scene. Then I looked at INTJ with rage in my eyes.
INTJ: While I was laughing like a madman.
INFJ: I laughed later, but I still cringe at the memory, while INTJ has nothing to worry about. At least we didn't run away, and someone sacrificed and hugged him. His intentions weren't bad, he just wanted someone to hug, after all.
INTJ: I already accepted my eventual karma. But I’m still not regretting my survival instinct, at the expense of my friend. So that’s that. We did some research, and we found the song he was reffering to, I’ll cherish it forever.
i scored legit 100% Ni and 0% Se. idk wether i should be happy cuz it explains why i don’t have a sense of reality or wether i should be sad cuz i don’t fuqin have a damn sense of reality AHAHAHA
