Two excellent #PureMalt whiskies out of #Japan. The #taketsuru21 from #nikkaDistillery and the MWR by #ichiros. For me the MWR is amazing value for money with the whisky being aged purely in #Mizunara casks. Incense notes coming in strong with a peppery and sweet apple profile. For those that don't know Pure Malt is a term used when a blended whisky is composed solely of single malt whiskies from different distilleries. Today's review is one special whisky. The #chichibu #zoetrope is bottled exclusively for an amazing little whisky bar bearing the same name. Bottled at cask strength and aged in 1st fill #bourbon barrel this drop picks up on the wonderful vanilla and cinnamon notes. Theres also hints of christmas cake and dried fruits comes in late to finish things off beautifully. If you're in Tokyo Zoetrope is a must visit. One of the most talked about #whiskies of 2017. The #yamazaki #mizunara 18 certainly delivers quality. The aromas are simple, strong yet restrained. Incense, toffee and cinnamon twirl in exquisite harmony. The palate hits hard with toffee sweetness which dies quickly as the Mizunara wood takes hold and produces strong incense notes coupled with dried fruits and peppery spice. The strength of the incense continues to the finish with a touch of citrus. Overall, a great dram. BUT in my opinion the current price tag is too high. I'd rather go for the Yamazaki 25 or Hakushu 25.
