#nonbinary acceptance

My toxic trait is that I think a lot more people are nonbinary than we think tbh. Cause like I have met, IRL, FIVE trans men who, after hearing me be openly nonbinary, very quickly went "hey can you stop respecting my he/him pronouns actually and use they/them once in a while because I'm lowkey like you", and three trans women who did the same. Since I've met like six trans guys and like five trans women, this is weird as hell?? And when I explain to cis people what being nonbinary IS, like 1/4 of the time they just go "but isn't that just how everyone feels though". I genuinely think if society at large took nonbinary people seriously we'd have wayyyyyy more nb's. I don't think most people belong rigidly to one category only.

I don’t think it’s fully possible to embrace nonbinary people until you stop thinking of men as the opposite of women and of masculinity negative femininity and vice versa. Like. Honestly it was a ridiculous belief to begin with, we’re not an incredibly sexually dymorphic species to begin with and men and women (even cis men and women!) are far more similar than different. Until you stop thinking of men and women as inherent opposites you can never accept bigender people or people who combine masculinity and femininity or people who hold manhood in some ways and womanhood in others. And honestly it’s a kind of heteronomative viewpoint anyway

With Pride month coming up, remember enbies are apart of the community. regardless of what the gatekeepers say, most people do respect and welcome you in LBGTQ+ spaces. You have the right to be proud of yourself. Celebrate yourself and your identity along with everyone else!

It's okay to wish you weren't nonbinary. It's hard to be nb, we all know that. It's hard to be unseen and unheard by a large part of society, it's hard to have to fight people just to have your identity respected. It's hard to figure out your gender and your sexuality. It's okay to be exhausted by it all, to think it'd be easier not to be nonbinary. It's okay not to be necessarily nonbinary and proud.
