For Better Or Worse: 2
Henry Creel x Reader
Summary: Henry Creel turned out not to be how you thought he’d be
A/n: hello lovelies I’m back! Volume 1 of season 5 was just WOW. I’m speechless and I have no words. I could go on a whole rant about these episodes, but I won’t lol. There was one scene where max was traveling through vecnas memories and there was one from his school life. Joyce was there and it took place in 1959. That scene is from the broadway show and I saw that as a sign to immediately start posting this series, so here we are:)
This is kind of a filler episode, but I think it’s needed to set up Henry and reader’s relationship. Chapter 3 and onward is when the plot will pick up. I’m planing on posting this series every Tuesday🥰

Hawkins India, 1959
Hawkins High
Karen and I were laughing at Ted as he reenacted a scene from the musical Oklahoma at the lunch table. Us cheerleaders, plus Karen, and the jocks were currently seated in the middle of the lunchroom. The “popular section” most people called it.I don’t know if the area was that special, but people will believe what they want to believe.
“Sit down!” Karen said to Ted with laughter as she pulled him down by the collar back to his seat.
“I can’t help it! It’s sucks that we can’t do Oklahoma again!” Ted complained.
Through the grapevine I learned that the play Joyce was directing was called Dark of the Moon. It’s a tragic love story about a witch boy, John, who falls in love with a human girl named Barbra Allen. Everyone else in the drama club wanted to do Oklahoma, again, but Joyce wasn’t having any of it.
Apparently some bigshot guy from a performing arts school in Illinois was willing to give away a scholarship to one student if the play was any good. Joyce wanted to win that scholarship and was willing to do whatever it takes to win that money. So she’s doing a play that no one has ever heard of and what no one wants to do.
“Maybe it will be fun! Something different.” I suggested.
“I hope so. I don’t want to be bored when I’m onstage.” Karen said.
I looked down at my lunch tray and saw the pile of mush my school called lunch. “This looks putrid.” I said as I pushed my tray away.
“Tell me about it.” Karen agreed. “Hey let’s skip lunch now and get some real lunch after school.”
“Isn’t their drama club today after school?”
“Oh shit you’re right! I guess we have to eat this prison food now.”
“Oh I’m not eating that. I’ll starve if I have to. Besides I’m pretty sure I have a granola bar in my locker.”
“Suit yourself.” Karen dug into what looked like mashed potatoes. “Hey since today is your first day of drama club you’ll finally get to witness the freak.”
“You know I don’t like that phrase.” I said as I gave Karen a pointed look.
“Alright fine. The new kid.”
I wanted to tell her about how I already met Henry, but I didn’t know how to bring it up. And even if I did, Karen would probably grill me about how he was and would talk about him like he was a specimen rather than a human being.
“Well I’m looking forward to it.” I finally said.
“Good luck with that.” Ted spoke up. “The kid’s a weirdo.” The other jocks cheered with agreement, while I looked down at my hands in my lap. Sometimes I wish I could be somewhere else than where I was.
Suddenly I felt a hand grab my shoulder and I looked up to see Karen with her face lit up like a Christmas tree.
“What?”
“Let’s have a sleepover tomorrow ! It’s been awhile since we had girls night. We’ve both been so busy lately.”
I thought about it and Karen had a point. Between Karen being in drama club and me being in Cheer, we’ve barely hung out since school started.
“That sounds great!” I said with a smile.
“Excellent!”
The bell rang signaling for our next class.
“Well I’ll see you at drama club.” Karen said as she gathered her things. Karen and I did not share any of our afternoon classes together, so we were going our separate ways.
“I’ll see you.” I slung my backpack over my shoulder and dumped my lunch tray in the trash, on the way out of the cafeteria.

The final bell of the day rang which signaled us students that we were free to leave this educational penitentiary. I grabbed all the books I needed for homework, from my locker, and started heading over to the auditorium where drama rehearsal was held.
I was a little nervous, but Joyce and Karen both said that they’ll be there for me if I needed them and that was all the reassurance I needed. With bated breath I sighed before I opened the door of the auditorium.
I walked in and there was chaos everywhere. Charles Sinclair and Sue Anderson were arguing near the soundboard. Karen and Ted were making out in one of the audience seats. Walter Henderson was teasing some kid a grade below him, while Claudia Yount was trying to get Walter to stop. Alan Munson was talking to the wall. Bob Newby was writing frantically in his script. Lonnie Byers was laid passed out on the ground. Joyce was nowhere in sight.
Well this was not what I expected when I signed up for drama club. I found a seat near the back and placed my stuff down.
“I’m shocked to see you here Y/n.”
I turned around and saw James Hopper Jr. He was known as the ladies man here at Hawkins high, but he wasn’t in the popular crowd. He was more of a loaner and kept to himself. He was the chief of police’s son and it was known that he liked to be called Jim rather than James.
“You’re shocked to see someone like me in drama club?” I asked.
Jim gestured at the cheer uniform I was wearing. “People from your crowd usually don’t really join drama club.”
“Ted’s in drama club.”
“Yeah well Ted is Ted.”
I let out a few laughs when he said that. “Why is someone like you here?” I asked back. Jim carefully looked around before he secretly pulled out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. “I sell cigarettes for a buck per pack. Want one?”
“I’ll pass.”
“Suit yourself.” He said before he placed the cigarettes back in his pocket. Then I thought back to the beginning of our conversation when he called me Y/n.”
“Wait hold on a sec you know my name?” I asked. Jim pointed at my cheer sweater that had my name stitched into it. “Oh right.” I said with embarrassment.
“It’s okay kid. Some forget the most simplest of things.”
“Don’t call me kid.”
“I’ll call you whatever I want…kid.”
I ignored him. “Have you seen Joyce anywhere?”
“No, but she should be here soon. Drama club is her life.”
I nodded. Something then caught Jim’s eye and he nodded in understanding. “Well duty calls…kid.” He said before he walked away.
“Don’t call me kid!” I shouted at him, but he didn’t answer back, so he either he didn’t hear me or he chose to remain silent and something told me it was the latter.
I wanted to strangle him, but I stopped myself. Jim irritated the hell out of me, but there was something comforting about his presence. There was an older brother vibe about him. My mind instantly went to him, and I almost opened the door I locked a long time ago, but I managed to keep it shut. Not here I thought.
Then Joyce’s voice carried through the auditorium as she entered. “Alright folks we have a lot to accomplish today, so let’s get right to it!”
The room went silent as Joyce’s words resonated with the club. Eventually everyone situated themselves and gave their undivided attention to Joyce.
“Now first I want to tackle scene 2 from act 2. That scene is very important and the audience must understand the message we are trying to share. But before we get to do that I would like all of you to do some icebreakers with one another.”
Everyone groaned in annoyance.
“No! I don’t want to hear it. You guys know each other, but do you really know each other? This is your time to really dig deep and get to know one another. We have to function as one living organism and we have to live as one in order to impress the scholarship guy. Now I’m going to pair you all into pairs and then you can talk with your partner for the beginning of rehearsal.”
More groans erupted from the audience.
“Nah uh uh. I don’t want to hear it and I don’t want to hear complaints about who your partner is. Now. Walter and Alan. Sue and Charles. Claudia and Betty. Henry and Y/n…”
I tuned all the other names out after Joyce called my name. My eyes immediately scanned the crowd of people until my eyes landed on the boy who was already looking at me. I couldn’t read his expression, but he didn’t seem upset that I was his partner.
“Alright guys! Go mingle!” Joyce said and walked off the stage. I rose from my seat and made my way over to Henry. When I reached his seat I looked down at him and he was messing with his radio that was going all haywire.
“Henry?”
Henry jumped at the sound of my voice.
“Hey are you okay?” I asked concerned.
“Y-yeah why wouldn’t I be.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah.” He cleared his throat. “Do you want to sit?” Henry gestured towards the seat next to him. I nodded and sat down. None of us said anything.
“So…um. Did you enjoy the game last week?” I asked breaking the silence.
“No. No not really.”
“Oh. Well that’s okay. Sports aren’t for everyone. I’m not that big a fan of sports.”
“I didn’t enjoy the game, but I enjoyed watching you.”
“Me?”
“Yes.”
I looked down at the ground. “Thank you. Although I did mess up a couple times which makes no sense because I practiced all week, but of course things didn’t go as planned. Karla, the cheer captain, noticed my mistakes of course and said that it was something to work on. Sometimes I wish I could just get out of head. I know I know the number, but then I miss a step or two and it’s like I didn’t practice at all and-“ Then I realized I was rambling on and on again.
“I’m rambling again aren’t I.” I said bashfully.
“It’s okay. I’m not much of a talker.” Henry reassured me.
“I should really stop talking. The whole point of this exercise is to get to know one another. So tell me about yourself.”
Immediately Henry tensed up and I could tell he didn’t want to talk about himself.
“Well we don’t have to talk about you first. Do you want me to continue rambling?”
Henry nodded.
“Okay. Ask me a question.”
The tension dissipated immediately from Henry’s shoulders, but not completely.
“What’s your favorite color?”
“Pink. A pastel pink to be exact. How ‘bout you?”
“…blue.”
“That’s cool! I like blue! Especially the pastel blue of the sky. If you can’t tell I like pastel colors.”
Henry nodded, but said nothing. A couple moments of silence passed before I realized he wasn’t going to ask another question.
“Ask me another question.” I said.
“Do you have siblings?”
I felt my body freeze as my eyes darted to the floor and the words that always came easy to me were stuck in my mouth. Ever since last year I could never talk about my brother out in the open. It’s too painful to talk about someone who has been a part of your entire life only for them to suddenly disappear. Everyone in town knows and it’s sort of been an unspoken rule in school to not talk about my brother and especially in front of me.
I felt the palms of my hands begin to sweat and I wiped them against my cheer skirt. My right leg began to shake reportedly, a habit I did whenever I was nervous.Henry obviously has no knowledge of my situation nor my personal life. However, there’s something about him that makes me feel light. Like he could be a person I could confide in. I know I’ve only known him for basically a day, but there’s just something about him that I can’t describe.
“Hey we don’t have to talk about your family if you don’t want to. I get it.”
I looked up at Henry and I saw a look of understanding in his eyes.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“I know what it’s like to not have the best relationship with your family.”
Suddenly my eyes widened and my back straightened. How did he know about my strained relationship with my parents? Did he know about Alex? How could he read me so easily?
“How did you know that?” I asked accusingly, but he didn’t seem fazed and shrugged.
“I don’t know. I guess I just know when I see someone like me.”
My back went to a more comfortable position after he spoke. So he doesn’t know about Alex. Right? I took a deep breath.
“Someone like you?”
Henry nodded and I let go of the breath I didn’t realize I was holding. “Well you’re right. My relationship with my family is not the best…my brother-“
“Alright folks I know that wasn’t a lot of time, but we got to get the ball rolling for this scene!” Joyce shouted. Her eyes started to flit through the room as she begun to list out a bunch of tasks for people to complete.
“Henry and Patty step up to the stage. Sue and Charles please set up the right lighting for this scene. Y/n….Oh Y/n!” She turned to everyone else. “Everyone be ready to go in 5!” She then turned back to me and began to walk through the aisle.
“Y/n I’m glad you’re here.” Joyce said as she hugged me.
“Well I was kind of forced to be here against my will so…” Joyce playfully hit my arm.
“Now-“
“I’m not going on stage.” I interrupted.
“I know Y/n. I remember our deal.” Joyce said with a warm smile. “I was going to suggest joining Clara with costumes. We need more hands on deck to make Henry’s costume. Is that alright with you?”
“Yeah.”
“Great! Let’s go meet Clara!” Before I could say anything, Joyce pulled me into the direction of Clara. My body jerked forwards as I was dragged to the side exit of the auditorium. I went up the stairs and out into the hallway, but not before meeting Henry’s eyes.

I doodled on the corner of my page as I waited for the bell to ring. I was tuning my teacher’s voice out as he was teaching us some stupid math equation that I would never understand. I never understood why we were required to take math classes. I know math is in everyday life, but it’s not like I’m going to need to know about y=mx + b, or all the other equations.
Suddenly the bell rang and I slowly gathered my belongings and walked out the door. I made it 3/4 down the hallway before I felt a tap on my shoulder.
“Hey girl! I’m so excited for tonight!” It was Karen
“Me too!”
“There’s drama club tonight and I know you have cheer practice, so Ted will drop us off at my house when we’re done.”
“Sounds good!”
“Great I’ll see you later.” Karen said before she walked down the hallway.
“See you later.”
I made it to my next class which was study hall. Usually around this time I would meet my cheer teammates and the basketball team in the gym, but I actually had to get some work done today, so I decided to stay in the classroom during study hall today.
I found a seat and I grabbed my English homework and a pencil. The bell rang and I heard the last footsteps of people entering the room before the door was shut. Light chatter dispersed throughout the room as people did whatever during their free period.
I felt a presence sit beside me, but I didn’t look up because I was too focused on my English homework. I wanted to get this done now, so that I could freely hang out with Karen this weekend.
I vigorously erased a mistake I made on the page and my pencil flew out of my grasp and on to the ground. I bent down to pick it up when I saw a familiar hand held radio seated on the ground. I looked up and saw Henry with his back pack on his lap rummaging through it. I didn’t realize that he was in my study hall this whole time, but then again it’s my first time being here in a while.
I noticed his homework laid out on his desk and I realized he was missing something to get started on it. I tapped Henry’s shoulder and he sharply looked at me. I silently held out my hand and offered him my pencil. He looked down at it before he slowly took the pencil from my hand.
“Thank you.”
“No problem.” I said with a smile. “Are you working on Mr. Smith’s homework assignment?”
He nodded.
“Want to work on it together?”
Henry remained silent, but he nodded again.
“Great!” I pulled out an extra pencil, since I gave Henry the one I was using, and continued to work on the homework. It was silent for a while and I almost thought that he lied about wanting to work together, but then he quietly spoke up.
“What did you say for question 4?”
I looked up from my paper. “Question 4?”
He nodded.
“I talked about how Victor was in the wrong and how he let his own ambitions get in the way. If the monster received some guidance and help then he wouldn’t have done the things he’s done.”
Henry nodded. “I was thinking the same.” And then he went back to his paper.
I looked at Henry as he concentrated on writing his answer. His eyebrow furrowed as he focused on what to put down on his paper. I thought back to our conversation in drama club yesterday and I realized I wanted to learn more about him.
We didn’t talk about him at all, well then again Joyce gave us barely any time to get to know one another, so it would be nice to hear what he has to say. It can also clarify all the rumors that people made up around the school. I looked up at the clock and noticed there was 10 minutes left of the period. Then I looked back at Henry and tapped his shoulder.
He looked up at me. “Can I ask you something.” Henry froze, but then his head slowly nodded.
“Well not like asking you something..It’s just that everyone in school talk about how weird and frightening you are and for some reason I don’t think it’s true. You don’t seem like the type to resort to violence and you seem rather pleasant. I guess I just want to know more about you. Like where you’re from. You’re life before here.”
Henry looked away and his knuckles turned white as he clenched the pencil in his hands.
“You don’t have to say anything now…I just want to get to know you. You seem nice and approachable.”
Henry slightly released his hold on the pencil and looked back at me. “You want to get to know me?”
I nodded. He paused before he placed the pencil on top of the desk and turned his body towards me. I faced my body in his direction and gave him my complete attention.
“Well…I’m from Rachel, Nevada and my family and I moved here about a month ago. We inherited the house I lived in from a rich relative and now I’m here.”
“Did you like Nevada?”
“It was okay. I do miss it though because Nevada was all I’ve ever known my whole life.”
“That’s understandable. Why did you move?” Henry immediately tensed up and I could tell I reached a touchy subject.
“We moved because my mom wanted a fresh start for me.”
“A fresh start?”
Henry opened his mouth, but he was interrupted by Mr. Green, our study hall teacher. “The bell is about to ring, so I suggest you guys start to pack up.”
Henry looked at me with an unreadable expression before he began to pack up his belongings. I was so close to getting him to open up to me, but of course he had to be interrupted. That did not feel like twenty minutes.
We haven’t interacted much, but there is something about his energy that is intriguing. He draws me in and I want to open the door that he keeps locked away.

Sweat dripped down my face as I sipped from my water bottle. We have already run our routine two times already so far during practice and we were all taking a five minute break.
“I swear if we run this damn routine one more time I think I might have a stroke.” My teammate McKenzie said.
“We can dream, but we know what’s going to happen.
“I know.” McKenzie said as she rolled her eyes. “I just wish she would go easy on us for once.”
“I know.” I said mirroring her words and we both laughed.
“Alright girls! I wanted to run our number again, but since you all seem out of it I’m going to call it a night.” Our coach said.
McKenzie and I looked at each other shocked, but relieved. “Great work today girls and don’t forgot to practice!”
I swiped my brow with my small towel I always bring to practice and began to pack up my belongs.
“Hey do you need a ride home tonight?”
“No thanks Kenz I’m sleeping over Karen’s house tonight, so I’m getting a ride from her.”
“Alright then! I’ll see you on Monday then!”
“See you on Monday! Have a great weekend!”
“You two.”
I zipped my bag up and slung it over my shoulder before heading to my locker, because I forgot some books that I needed for homework this weekend. I entered the hallway where my locker was and I put in my combo.
I set my bag on my ground and grimaced at the look of my appearance. My cheeks were tinted red from the heat of the gym and my hair was damp from sweat. I sniffed under my arm and immediately recoiled. I definitely need to take a nice shower at Karens I thought.
I bent down to reach for my deodorant from my bag when I saw a pair of shoes in my eye of sight. I looked up and saw none other than Henry. I smiled.
“Hey Henry.”
“Hi.”
“Is drama club over?”
He nodded.
“Oh how did it go?”
“Good. I wanted to return this to you.” He reached into his back pack and pulled out the pencil I lent him earlier in study hall.
“Oh you didn’t have to give it back I have plenty. Keep it.”
“No it’s yours.” He held out his arm with the pencil in his hand for me to take. It looked like he wasn’t going to budge, so I reached up for the pencil and slipped it in my duffle bag. I stood up from the ground and my height reached the bottom of Henry’s head.
I didn’t realize he was a full head taller than me until now. But now I knew as I looked into his blue eyes. I stared into his eyes for a little bit longer until I realized what I was doing and looked away.
“Um…are you heading home now?” I asked after clearing my throat.
“Yes.”
“Cool. Do you live far?” What kind of questions am I asking him? He probably thinks I’m a stalker because I want to know the distance of his house from school, but he didn’t seem weirded out by my question (thank god).
“I live on Morehead St.”
“Oh I know where that is. One of my teammates lives two streets from there.”
Henry nodded and a silence filled the hallway. I grabbed the textbook I needed and shut my locker shut. I picked up my duffle bag from the ground and swung it over my shoulder.
“Well I should really get going. I don’t want to keep Karen and Ted waiting, but I’ll see you on Monday.” I said with a smile. Henry remained silent, so I took that as my cue to leave. I turned around and took about two steps before Henry called out “ Wait!”
“Yes?”
Henry looked at the ground and fidgeted with his hands. “Henry?” He looked up and placed his hand behind his head as if he was….nervous.
“I um…was w-wondering if you wanted to hang out maybe. Not tonight! But…maybe some other time?”
I stood shockingly at Henry as I took in his words. With our little encounters it was mostly me leading our conversations. I never felt bad about it, but a part of me felt like maybe he was disinterested. But now I knew he actually wanted to hang out with me and get to know me like how I want to I get to know him.
“Well I have a busy schedule with cheer and now drama club.”
Henry’s face didn’t change, but his eyes did. They fell like a deflated balloon. “But I think we can work something out.” I finished and the once dimmed lights in his eyes were illuminated again.
“Great um well I guess we can work something out.”
I nodded with a smile. “Well now I should really get going. I’ll see you on Monday.”
“I’ll see you on Monday.”
I gave him a small wave before I made my way to the entrance of the school with a huge smile on my face
you cant just leave us on that cliffhanger.. tell us more about bigshot tenna (and spamton)
i fear spamton forcing you to call him tenna made him about 200% more attractive to me
A lot of people don't talk about how weird Spamton is about Tenna it's kinda funny to me. You're telling me this guy tried to dress like Tenna, talk like Tenna, do the same job as Tenna... what are you doing, man. Get your own identity.
[Spamton x Reader x Tenna] (Ticklefic) Spamton wanted to show off his NEO body to his most beloved partners. He just didn't imagine that it could go so silly.
(Author's note): This one was requested! I'm always happy to write the funny trio, especially with NEO. Post bigshot era for this one! I heart lee!NEO with my entire [HEART-SHAPED OBJECT] btw.
THE ENTIRETY OF THE WORMTON FIC IS DRAFTED! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! Sooooo, what does that mean? I'm currently revising every chapter, leaving notes for things I want to change, move, or add, and deleting what I'm no longer happy with. I'm hoping to finish by the end of the month. After that, I have to, y'know, actually write the thing. I plan to release chapter 1 and the prologue together. I have no idea how long each chapter will take, but considering the length of each chapter and how long these updates take me, a month between chapters is likely realistic. We'll just have to wait and see.
In fact, June 5th could be a reasonable release date for the first chapter! I’m sure you don’t have any other plans that day… /j I guess
Hello, I started reading your mettetenna fic about a week ago, and I must say I've been quite enjoying it; it seems very effortlessly funny and character accurate (I laugh whenever Spamton shows up, you made him so odd). You really managed to capture and maintain my interest throughout, what with the skillful mix of romance, drama and comedy. I appreciate that you don't shy away from writing an entire cast of characters, making the dark world and town feel lived in. I also can't stand when a fic is too fluffy or too flowery, and I feel like you hit the mark in terms of your writing/storytelling style. I really liked the setup where they all go to anime club and Tenna prefers the sweet, friendship-focused movie over the serious one (very much the same as my own taste in media haha). I wanted to ask if I may create fanart for your fic. I'm not sure if it'll actually pan out since I'm currently busy creating a different set of illustrations for my own AU, but yeah, just wanted to know if that was chill. 🤙 Also, I was curious, do you have a fav scene/section in your fic?
IM SO SOSO GLAD ITS IN CHARACTER!!! Spamton esp was someone I was worried about getting wrong, hes such a funny character to me and I wanted to portray the pure unbridled chaos of reading his lines for the first time. Awful awful little beast
AVOIDING TOO MANY WALLS OF TEXT IS ACTUALLY SOMETHING IM PASSIONATE ABOUT AND INSECURE ABOUT SO IM SOOOO GLAD PEOPLE LIKE MY SHORTER PARAGRAPHS.. I have adhd, dyslexia, autism, many many learning disabilities which makes reading more difficult to me- and one of the things that fuck it up is too long of a paragraph. For the chapter coming out next I open it w some long ones I wrote as a challenge for myself and I keep fighting the urge to just. Break em up LMFAO. Im also glad im toeing the line of fluff and angst! Writing both is very fun for me but I usually need both to function
THE MEW MEW THING WAS SO FUN TO WRITE AS A CHARACTER ANALYSIS THING this commenter on ao3(GoldenDusk) 100% understood exactly what I was throwing down and it made me so happy I’m just posting those sections- first is their reply and second is my response
YOU CAN 100% MAKE FAN ART OF THIS FIC DUDE ID BE SO SO SO HAPPY ID RB IT SO MUCH i have a tag for fan art of the fic I’d love love love to see it!!! It’d make me so happy!!
AS FOR MY FAVORITE SCENE I’ve been asked this before and I have no fucking clue honestly LMFAO it’s so hard to choose. I think the ones I always go back to read are the one in the first chapter where he’s in the snow, the nightmare scenes, and like. All of chapter 9 tbh. You can tell I go crawling back to angst stuff LOL. I <3 angst. Specifically when it’s about stuff like PTSD, genuinely cathartic as hell for me.
I’m actually. Shocked by how few tenna with ptsd fics there are considering how bad his symptoms for complex are and considering he for sure has it from the knight. I guess most of the fic content is bigshot era? Ok wait actually another favorite scene of mine is the barfight scene im very happy w how that came out and its such a good balance between funny and angsty and hot to me. I <3 bloodied yaoi. There IS a scene in chapter 21 that I’m excited for y’all to see that I’m REALLY proud of!
