Genuine question: Why did ‘Tony has to have the arc reactor put back in’ become such a trope of so many MCU fics dealing with consequences for Siberia? Like, I get having to have an artifical sternum or something if the author is going the route of Steve’s shield having caused significant damage to Tony’s chest, but why specifically the arc reactor? The whole reason it was there originally was to act as an electromagnet and keep the shrapnel from entering Tony’s heart. But the shrapnel is gone by that point, so I don’t get what the benefit would be of putting said electromagnet back? Is it just something which stemmed from when people saw the arc reactor in the Infinity War trailer (before we knew it was surface-level) and then it just stuck around? Or am I missing something?
So, if anyone wanna send some Not Steve Friendly WinterIron/IronStrange/FrostIron my way... 👀
my recent favorite activity is reading fanfics written after ca:cw that are all about how wrong steve was and how right tony was and steve is always very ooc but its cathartic for me
“Scott made Derek a better person. Hence why Scott could forgive Derek”

Okay, thank you, that was the funniest thing I've read today.
Disclaimer: I've watched exactly 2 episodes of Buffy, can only talk about the mcu, and the Witcher series. Also, it's 3 am this is literally just me rambling about nothing.
I mean, I've said before that you could copy paste most of my issues with Steve (since I joined that fandom before tw) on Scott and still have mostly the same narrative.
To the point where I can literally quote team Tony fics, change the names, and and still make them fit canon tw.
[I know there are some metas about civil war and Steve's perspective on being able to help vs civilian's fear of enhanced people with zero oversight, and the fact that we know the avengers as people, so if anyone want to send me that it'd be welcome.]
But it's fascinating how similar both fan bases are. And again, maybe that's just me being in certain tags/only hearing about pro Scott/Steve stuff from tumblr/pinterest/ao3 tags, but in my experience with Stiles/Tony it's always "They hurt/betrayed/lied to me and then expected me to get over my own petty drama to sing kumbaya with them so I can earn their forgiveness for not being a doormat" while a lot of Scott/Steve centric content relies on dehumanizing/villifying everyone they don't like to show how morally superior they are.
(also, I'm so not in the right ao3 tags, but I want to point out the fact that Tony's tags are not x friendly/pro Tony where there are multiple fics under Tony has no morals/im not going in the tags to find the exact words)
Personally, I like to go the Scott Steve/Stiles Tony/Derek Bucky route.
Scott's obvious, Stiles mostly because of Donovan and sometimes my teammates don't tell me things (also bc they fall in the same category of Favorite Character), Derek mostly because of a certain kind of fic trope with seeing bucky as the same guy from before the war and resulting identity/agency issues.
Now, the Witcher. I had seen some gifs before actually watching the show (and got told about the time jumps thank fuck for that lmao) but my first reaction to both geralt and jaskier was this is going to be fantasy sterek isn't it? And I was mostly right but didn't hyperfixate on the show and so never actually compared the two beyond that.
But now that I'm thinking about it, Scott as yennefer actually makes sense?
Derek; I so do not know enough Witcher Lore and have no idea about geralt's past pre canon, but the whole butcher thing seems pretty close to Scott's perception of him. I'm not saying Derek wasn't a shitty person in s1 and 2, but a lot of that stems from Scott being the narrator. We know what really happened with geralt, Scott only knows Derek as the creepy werewolf stalker.
Yennefer being sold to whatshername, being forced(?) to learn magic, going through a magical Transformation that left her looking for a way to get back what it cost her (her ability to get pregnant)
Scott being pretty much a nobody, being bitten, being "forced" to learn control, wanting to get back what it cost him (him being human)
And later working with the person who got him there in the first place.
Also, if we're really going down that road, does Scott as geralt compare Scott violating Derek to what was that mess with the thing? Doing it for his own good?
The Rogue avengers come back after everything, get pardons or whatever, only to find Tony and Stephen married and Tony just honestly does not gaf about the others returning. ( i keep thinking of the saying ' the opposite of love isnt hate, its indifference' and i just love this premise for tony being happy post Civil War bullshit )
Only a short ficlet, but I loved this prompt so much! Steve-POV but not very Steve friendly.
Closed Doors, 400 words.
The rogue avengers returned to the country without fanfare. It was over; it was done with, and although things would never get back to normal, Steve expected that it would be okay. Tony forgave them, so clearly he understood the reason that had driven the Avengers apart.
He expected a reunion, hopeful for the future of the team. What he’d received was total silence. Tony hadn’t acknowledged their return, publicly or privately. Any discussion of the work was done through intermediaries. He tried to get in contact with Tony, but his phone just rang and rang. Steve wasn’t certain what to do.
Finally, he went to Tony’s home.
In the years that they had been gone, Tony had moved into a private residence, a little lake house. It was nice, peaceful and Steve couldn’t blame Tony for the desire to take a step backwards, get away from it all.He waited at the door after knocking, honestly scared. It took a few minutes for the door to open.
It wasn’t, however, Tony who answered the door. The man was handsome, an angular jaw and bright, almost mystical blue eyes. His dark hair was streaked with gray around the temples.
“I must have made a mi…”
“You didn’t, Captain Rogers,” said the man. “My husband doesn’t want to talk to you.”
“Tony can’t still hate me for what I- husband?”Steve lost track of his thoughts as the word husband stuck in his mind.
“Doctor Stephen Strange. We married while you were gone.”
Steve was floored by the news. Tony had married some random man in the two year span that he was gone.“Oh, I…”
“And my husband doesn’t hate you, Rogers.” The words were spoken in an irritable tone, but what caught Steve totally off-guard was the indifference.
“Then why hasn’t he…”
“Open the door, Stephen.”
The man, Stephen, opened the door wider and there he was, Tony. He wore a gray t-shirt and plaid pajama bottoms. It struck Steve just how relaxed he was.
“Steve,” Tony said softly.
“In spite of what you think, the world doesn’t revolve around you. You went away and life went on. I found someone, I fell in love and I got on with my life.”
“Tony, what can I do to earn your forgiveness?”
“Oh, I forgave you,” Tony said bluntly. “I forgave you a long time ago, Steve. You made your mistakes and I made mine, but it’s all over now. I’m focusing on being a husband, working on tech for my people and helping out in whatever way I can. If you want to talk shop, let me know and I’ll get on what you need, but really…I don’t want anything to do with you. No hate. It’s just done.”“
Tony, I…”
The husband sighed.“Come on, your pasta’s going to overcook. Let’s finish dinner.”
The door closed.
Tony: Fuck you, Steve! ...No, wait, that's gross. Fuck yourself!
I hate when people try to justify Steve going back in time with time worked different for both of them, he was frozen and she wasn't. That makes zero fucking sense.
First Avenger is set in 1945. Agent Carter in 1946. Peggy already new Daniel (and Angie, cause let's be real, oh my God they were roommates) when the show started. Season 2 ends with - spoiler alert - Peggy getting together with Daniel. All that in 1946/47.
Now let's talk about Rogers. The Avengers is set in 2012. Civil War (their last last goodbye) in 2016. Endgame in 2023, 7 fucking years after that! Dude! Move on already!
And if we count First Avenger as their last time, Steve had 11 years to move on with his life. I'm not saying to forget her (Peggy didin't), just... move on.
And it's even worse when you remember that apparently he got back to 1949, 2/3 years after she started dating Daniel. He was a good man, a disabled veteran who respected her in every way. Why the fuck Marvel ruined that?
