Doctor Octavius: #teenagers scare the living shit out of me
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) dir. Jon Watts
Watching No Way Home Trailer: I get that Doc Ock is a “villain” and all, but he just looks like a lost puppy. I wanna give him smooches and iron his shirts for him.
Gone gone gone
Peter Parker x sister! Reader
Summary: you and Peter have always been close. You’ve told each other everything, you’ve shared everything as long as you can remember, and you’re as close as siblings can be. But… there are a few things you don’t know. One mistake is all it takes to unravel a perfect family.
You and Peter were always the best of friends. You always talked. You didn’t always share everything, but you did care for each other deeply. You’d even been close since the day you were born.
I guess being siblings helped with that.
Peter was two years older but you couldn’t have been closer. Even if you were twins.
You had movie nights, raided the fridge together at midnight every midnight, and told each other everything.
Even your parents death couldn’t change that. Sure, it was hard. Very hard.
But you were together.
And you both had May and Ben.
Eventually the pain of your parents death faded. After all, your brother was always there.
Your dad may not have been there to yell at you about your math worksheet in the kitchen, but Peter always tutored you in his free time.
Your mom wasn’t able to cook you dinner, but Peter was there to make the craziest sandwich combinations with you. Without him you never would have tried Salami and Jelly with mustard. It had been the grossest thing you ever had eaten, but it was an experience you didn’t want to forget. Well you couldn’t forget it if you tried.
Peter would remind you about your laundry. He’d offer to dry the dishes if he saw you washing. And the moment he got his license he was there to pick you up every day after school.
And now, you had May and Ben. Now you had family movie nights, game nights, and everything else a parent could give you.
So yes, it hurt, but you had your family.
No secrets.
Well, almost.

“Dude I don’t understand how you can get all scratched up.” You rolled your eyes. “You seriously expect me to believe that THIS was from your skateboard?” You gestured to the bruise on his arm with eyebrows raised. “Did you get in a fight? Is that what this is? Cause I can go get them for you. Just say the word.”
He scoffed. “You would take on a high schooler for me?”
“Absolutely.”
“That’s so sweet of you. With that in mind, can I borrow your charger?”
“Hell no.” You scoffed back at him, applying the newly bought foundation over his bruise. If Ben found out, he’d have an aneurism.” You snorted at your own joke. “But seriously what happened.”
“Don’t worry about it kid.” He shoved your shoulder with his, making you shriek when the makeup rubbed off on your shirt.
“I WAS ALMOST DONE!”
“It’s not a big deal. It’s just one person.” He waved you off. “Anyway, what do you want to watch tonight?”
“Don’t you brush me off.” You glowered at him. “You’re lucky I didn’t snitch to Ben. I think I at least deserve to know what happened.”
“Hey, don’t forget the code you ding bat.” He warned.
“Which one.” You raised an eyebrow. “The no eating each other’s leftovers code? Or the no going into each others rooms code.”
“The no snitching code.” He flicked you. “I think this situation applies.”
She stood up quickly, flicking him back. “No no no, we made that code if the IMPOSSIBLE case of you getting a girlfriend ever came true. That does not apply.”
“I think it does.”
“It really doesn’t.”
“Well, are you gonna tell him?” He asked, standing up quietly. “Come on, I’ve kept all of your secrets! Remember?” He snapped his fingers with a grin. “I’m sure that Ben would love to know about your hacking hobby.”
You got up off your bed to, nearly fuming. “I only used that once!”
“Yeah! At the end of the semester when all your grades slipped!”
You sighed and crossed your arms. “You really won’t tell me?”
He shrugged. “Already did. Not really sure what else you want from me.”
You were getting sick of glaring at your lanky brother. Even one of the muscles in your forehead was twitching. “Fine.” You resigned. “I guess I’ll just believe you got those bruises from skateboarding.”
“That’s a good little sissy.” He patted your head.
You rolled your eyes but said nothing.
You worried about him.
You really did.
Your prime suspect was Flash.
You’d love to just beat the crap out of him. But he was a junior in highschool. You were only in 8th grade. There wasn’t much you could do to stop him from doing whatever he was doing to your brother.
“C’mon,” he grabbed your arm and pulled you down the hallway. “If we hurry we can catch May before she makes her meatloaf and beg her to take us out to eat.”
You stored away your worries and followed after him quickly. “Only if we can get Thai!”
“No we’re getting pizza!” He argued back.
“Thai!” You tried to dodge him but he kept getting in your way.
“Pizza!”
“How about Aunt Mays meatloaf?” Your exasperated aunt shouted from downstairs.
The two of you were silent.
“This is your fault.”
“Is not!”
Any thoughts of what Peter might be hiding was gone, replaced by the need to beat him to Ben so you could beg for Thai food.
———————
“Peter!” You shouted from your room, the sound of your approaching footsteps just as loud as your voice.
He covered his ears, senses going off wildly. “The hell is it you need!” He placed his head on his desk with a groan. First he had to readjust his web formula and now you were screeching at him.
You jumped onto his bed quickly, standing a good five feet above him. “HOW DOES HE DO IT! HE’S DEFYING EVERY LAW OF PHYSICS!”
He waited a second. Maybe you would explain.
You breathed heavily, waiting for him to find some explanation as well.
“Who are you..?”
“SPIDER-MAN!” You shouted, holding up a printed picture you’d cut out of a newspaper. “How? How does he stick to walls? A-and use webs? DO THEY COME OUT OF HIM?!” You turned away and examined the picture with frustration. “It’s makes no sense!”
Peter quickly shoved the web fluid into his desk drawer and cleared his throat. “Oh. Um. Spider-Man? I-I don’t know I haven’t thought much about him. He’s… he’s that hero guy… right?”
You sat down on his bed, swinging your feet. “Some would prefer the term vigilante. Or criminal. But he’s defying everything we know about what’s possible!” You squinted at the picture again. “Maybe the secrets in his suit? It can’t be suction cups… or magnets…”
Peter eyed where one of his suits gloves was poking out of his dirty laundry pile. “I don’t know man. Don’t believe everything you see in the media. Maybe he’s not even real?”
He hated denying his existence as a hero but you were an intelligent AND very nosy person.
You snorted. “Normally I’d agree. But dude, my friend SAW him yesterday! He stopped a bus!”
Damn he forgot to account for eye witnesses.
“Well maybe he can stick to things cause he doesn’t wash his hands. Like someone else I know. Speaking of, stop fiddling with my hoodie strings.” He snatched the red fabric away from you. “You know I hate getting crap on my stuff.”
You held your your hands in mock surrender. “I wash my hands! And at least I know when to put on deodorant!” You stuck your tongue out at him and went back to the picture.
“I wonder who he is.” You wondered.
Peter swiveled his chair back to his scratch paper and hummed in agreement. “Who knows, maybe Spider-Man is a she. Or a they/them. You don’t know.”
“But they go by Spider-Man!”
“Hey, maybe it’s a trick to keep their real identity a secret! Have you ever heard Spider-Man talk?”
You thought a bit longer. “No not really. Then again, Spider-Man’s a new hero so maybe there hasn’t really been a chance to.”
Maybe Spider-Man was smarter than you thought.
Peter glanced at you from the corner of his eye. “If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you’re kind of impressed with him.” He knew he was getting bold. But if you ever found out he would HAVE to show this in your face. “Maybe even look up to him a bit?”
You snorted. “What? No.” You looked at the picture a little longer. “Well, I guess it does take a genius to make a suit like that. And he does a pretty good job at keeping the city safe.” You stood up and shrugged. “Huh, I guess I do.”
He internally screamed triumphantly. If he ever told you… wow would you eat your words pretty fast.
“Well if you don’t mind, could you go analyze your new hero somewhere else? I have homework.”
For once you actually listened to him and began to walk out of his room, still entranced with the picture. “I wish I were like him.” You mumbled.
He sat up. “Wait what?”
“Nothing.” You waved him off. “Go do your homework.” You rounded the corner and shouted back, “and you still have a bruise on your cheek!”
Damn it.
———-
“Ok, you two, calm down. This is a store, not a zoo.” May scolded as you bickered with your brother. “I need you to get bacon, cheese, eggs, and two gallons of two percent milk. Got it?”
“We don’t need any bacon, we got some right here.” Peter stated, giving you a side eye.
“Ha ha.” You glared at him.
“Get it? I was calling you a pi-.”
“-a pig. I get it.” You rolled your eyes. “That was awfully CHEESEy of you.”
“At least im not using TWO PERCENT of my brain cells-!”
Aunt May clapped her hands. “Hey, focus! Eggs, bacon, milk, cheese. Got it?”
The two of you nodded as Peter grabbed a shopping cart. “Can we each pick out something as well?”
“As a reward for being so helpful?” You finished for him.
She sighed, and pulled out her wallet. “Something small, ok?” She negotiated as she handed each of you five dollars. “And this is only cause Christmas is coming up. So this is an early gift.”
“Understood.” You grinned. “Peter can I push the cart?”
“What? No!” He gripped the bar a bit harder, a sly smirk on his face. “I’m older. I get it.”
“That’s not fair! I asked first!”
“Not nice enough!”
“It doesn’t need to be NICE!”
“Yes it does.”
“No!”
“I’m not hearing a pleaseeeee.” He leaned down, hand cupping his ear.
“Ughhhh.” You groaned. “Peterrrr.”
“Tell you what, how about you ride IN the cart?”
“What no I want to drive it- AH!”
He picked you up quickly and shoved you in. “Perfect! All the other kids are doing it!” He pointed at a toddler in the other aisle, exactly in your predicament. “Don’t you want to be cool? Like them?”
May snapped her fingers to gain Peters attention. “I’m asking the BOTH of you if you understand.”
Peter nodded. “Understood.”
“And stay with your sister.” She ordered.
“May why would you condemn me to that?!” You groaned, attempting to climb out.
“She won’t leave my sight for a second.” Peter nodded with a laugh. He pushed the cart, causing you to fall back in. “Off we go!”
You sighed and gave up. Might as well enjoy not having to use your legs right?
You and Peter browsed the store, on the look out for any trinket or snack you could snag.
After about ten minutes and a close encounter to a head on collision with another cart, you found what you wanted.
“Hey hey hey stop here!” You ordered, pulling on peters sleeve. “I found it!”
He raised an eyebrow and did as asked. “These are the posters. Aren’t you going to look for something… tech-y?”
You rummaged through the rolled up posters until you found the right one. “No, I have exactly what I need.” You sat back down and gestured for him to continue.
He did so skeptically. “Well what is it?”
“A Spider-Man poster.” You admitted. “I was thinking… maybe I could be like him one day? If I really tried. I could design my own suit! Who knows maybe if I got lucky enough he’d want to work with me. Now move faster.”
Peter snorted at the irony but did so anyway. “You’re such a weirdo.”
“At least I’m not crushing on a girl I’ll never get with.” You narrowed your eyes at him playfully. “What’s her name again? Gertrude? Gerri? Gwanda?”
“It’s Gwen, actually. And she and I have been getting along-“ he jerked the shopping cart to a rough stop, slamming you into the wall of the cart- “-splendidly.”
“Ow!” You whacked him with the poster. “Are you trying to get me killed?”
He snorted and continued on. “Maybe. But I-.”
The rest of his argument was cut off by sirens. The two of you turned and saw police cars speeding by.
He tapped the cart bar anxiously. “Hey, I’m gonna… I’m gonna go find May. Make sure she’s ok. J-just stay here alright?”
You stood up as he ran down the aisle. “Wait, you’re supposed to stay here!”
He was gone.
———
You, Ben, and May sat around the table, watching the clock.
Peter wasn’t back yet.
You knew he was getting busier and busier. But he’s just run out of the store! And he left you! He didn’t answer his phone or anything!
You didn’t mean to break the code of no snitching, but you were worried. He’s already gotten in a fight or two this school year. And he would always disappear. And those bruises… you couldn’t help it.
You told May and Ben.
“It’s been nearly five hours.” Ben tapped the table worriedly, a trait both you and Peter had picked up. “Damn it where is he.”
Just then, Peter opened the door. “Hey everyone.” He greeted tiredly. “Sorry I was out helping my friend with some homework.” He walked over to the fridge calmly and opened it, squinting at what was inside. “Man we really don’t have anything do we?”
“That’s because you left before the grocery shopping got finished.” Ben stood up, crossing his arms. “Where the hell did you go.”
Peter pointed to his left. “I was just helping a friend with-.”
“I heard the excuse. Now I want to know what you were really doing.” He stopped him immediately. “And I want to know what the hell has been going on with you.”
“What do you mean?” He asked quietly.
“I mean the fighting. Being absent! And your sister told us plenty about the bruises.”
Peters expression hardened immediately. “You broke the code?” He asked quietly. “Are you kidding me?”
“I’m sorry! We didn’t know where you were!” You stood up from the table, tears in your eyes. “You we’re gone a-and you weren’t answering your phone-!”
“No don’t apologize.” Ben ordered. “You did the right thing. And as for you.” He pointed angrily at your brother. “You left her alone in a store in New York. You made your aunt worry sick! You want to know why there’s barely anything in the fridge? They dropped everything to find you. Now we don’t have any bacon, any eggs, and no milk or cheese.”
Peter finally looked away from you.
You felt immensely guilty. But… he was back now. And he was safe. Everything would be fine again.
“Fine. I’ll go back and get the rest of the groceries.” He mumbled and turned around, grabbing his wallet off the counter.
“Peter come back!” May asked, following him. “It’s dark out!”
“I’ll be back quick.” He muttered, shutting the door.
There was a moment of silence before your uncle Ben pulled his coat off the hanger. “I’m going after him. Don’t worry. I’ll bring him back.”
May sat down, too worried to stand.
“I’m coming to.” You stated, running after Ben as he opened the door. “And,” you started before he could tell you no, “you need to have someone with a phone on them. Yours is dead, remember?”
He sighed. He didn’t have time to argue. Besides, you had a point. “Alright. Let’s hurry.”
——-
Peter was nowhere to be seen.
While you and Ben checked all the stores you’d called all of his friends to see if he happened to be at any of their houses.
He wasn’t.
“What are we gonna do?” You mumbled, picking at the skin on your thumb. “What if he ran away? What if he hates me? What if he’s involved with a-a gang or something?” Tears we’re starting to run down your face quickly. “What if we never see him again.”
“You’re gonna run yourself down with all that worrying.” He cast and arm over your shoulder as he peered down one of the ally ways. “Peter could never hate you.”
“He very well could!” You retorted. “He’s very capable.”
“He’s capable of being mad, I agree. But,” he squeezed your shoulder, “he would never hate you. He loves you too much.”
You sniffed and asked quietly, “Do you think we’re gonna find him?”
“I’m sure.” He answered. “And after this we’ll turn on a movie. You and Peter can bicker to your hearts content.”
You have a small smile. “Until May tells us to stop.”
“Until May tells you to stop.” He agreed.
Finally, you spotted somebody walking down the street.
He was tall.
Brown hair poked out from underneath his hood.
He was built like a string bean.
It had to be him.
You turned to point him put to uncle Ben only to run face first into a stranger. “Ow what the hell?!” You shouted, glaring at the dirty blond man.
Your anger rose…
Until you saw the gun in his hand, bag of money firmly secured in the other.
It was as if time froze.
Spider-Man.
He would help.
He was a hero.
He did this everyday.
Surely he would be out now.
In less than a second you were pushed out of the way.
You hit the ground hard.
Dizzy…
You were incredibly dizzy.
And your head began to hurt like crazy.
But you sat up anyway.
Then a gunshot went off.
Your ears were ringing.
You reached out to whoever it was you saw running away, desperate to stop them.
It was the man with the gun.
You gripped him by his coat pocket until he ripped away.
You landed back on the pavement.
Ben.
Ben.
Ben!
You turned quickly, heart jumping when you saw him laying on the ground, back to you.
“BEN!” You shouted and raced over.
You shook his shoulder and tried to turn him to face you. “BEN PLEASE!”
He wasn’t answering.
Everything was ringing.
He was gone.
You knew it.
You knew he was.
But he had just been there.
He was just there.
“Ben..” you choked, unable to breathe. “Please. Please please please please. Don’t. D-dont. P-plea-please don’t.”
Someone was next to you.
“Ben?” He asked, voice thick.
Peter.
“Pete… I…” you couldn’t even finish. “I thought Spider-Man would… I didn’t know…. Where… where were you? Where was… where was he? How…”
Peters eyes were stuck on Ben’s. “He’s… he’s dead.”
“Peter, please.” You begged, tears falling down your face. “I didn’t- I tried..!”
He shoved you away. “Why didn’t you do anything?! You just stood there!”
You began to sob even harder. “I thought Spider-Man would help us! I thought-!”
“How are you this stupid?!” He screamed, grasping for Bens hand. “Why would you fucking believe that Spider-Man could help?! Why didn’t you help him?! You were here! He wasn’t!”
Both of you were crying now.
And there was a crowd of people.
A flurry of scared voices.
And through all of it you could only hear Peter whispering to your uncles unmoving face.
“It shouldn’t have been you.” He muttered between sobs, shuddering.
——-
Pete wasn’t the same since.
None of you were.
May was… quieter.
The house was colder.
And Peter….
He didn’t talk to you anymore.
His door was always closed.
And when it was open he was never in his room.
And in those brief moments where you saw him, you saw the bruises to.
But he never asked you to help.
He never even looked at you anymore.
You knew why.
He blamed you.
He was right to.
It was your fault.
You shouldn’t have believed in a hero.
You should have stopped him.
Or at least kept Ben from dying.
All the posters of Spider-Man were torn from your walls. All the figurines, posters, newspapers. Everything.
Instead, there was something new.
There was only one thing that would make Peter happy. One thing that would make YOU happy.
Revenge.
