After summoning the ghost of Paula Deen, I conjured the ghost of Martha Stewart. We talked and I asked her about seasoning my cast iron skillet and the Ironware that I have, the thing she regrets most is not using Flaxseed Oil to season them. Right now these guys are on their third round of season and going on 8 hours in the oven. I slightly learned from my mom that you have to be careful with cast iron. It rusts easy, so it is necessary to oil. The reason for the season is iron is a porous metal, it has tons of tiny holes that catch food and holds onto moisture, oiling the metal then putting it in the oven for 3 hours at a time between 300f-350f helps fill in the holes creating a safe nonstick surface while still being able to receive nutrients and overall spread heat from the cast iron. I find this fascinating. You may not. But they came all a dark charcoal grey, but now they are all jet black, with a nice shine. I will do possibly 5 more coats at 350f adding to a total of 24 hours in the oven.
