If you follow my blog you know how much I love Bucky
But I have a take that I think some of y'all might not like.
Bucky wouldn't have been a good Captain America and I'm glad he didn't take the mantle up in the MCU
NOW BEFORE YOU GO AND TEAR AT ME IN THE COMMENTS I AM SPEAKING ABOUT THE MOVIES AND TV SHOWS ONLY. NOT THE COMICS SINCE I HAVEN'T READ THOSE
First and foremost it's not because I think that Steve thought Bucky couldn't handle it. It's not about lack of faith, it's about fairness
It's about the fact that Bucky had only just stopped fighting when old Steve came back, Bucky was finally still...he was allowed to breath
And more importantly it was time for him to recover. He deserved to work through everything that happened to him and he would never have been able to do that with the weight of being one of the worlds oldest hero's carrying one of the oldest superhero mantles.
He could have done it. But it would have cost him
He deserved the peace, and from FATWS we can see that he clearly wanted it.
Bucky wasn't the person to take on that role because it's not his job to save everyone, not only does he have to work through what he did as the Winter Soldier, he deserves to be saved for once. He should have to be the one putting his ass on the line all the time
(Despite the fact that he still does and will continue to do so)
Bucky could have been Captain America and would have done it at the drop of a hat if Steve asked. But that wouldn't have been fair to him
And besides, Steve knew that Sam is what the new age America needed, even if they weren't ready for it
