back when I made my masked ainur post for Tolkien Fashion Week, I was also playing around with some gandalf designs. I couldn’t settle on one I liked so I dropped them … but in retrospect, I think I like both haha

"Elrond knew all about runes of every kind. That day he looked at the swords they had brought from the trolls' lair, and he said: 'These are not troll-make. They are old swords, very old swords of the High Elves of the West, my kin. They were made in Gondolin for the Goblin-wars. They must have come from a dragon's hoard or goblin plunder, for dragons and goblins destroyed that city many ages ago'.."
Chapter 3, A Short Rest. "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien
Elrond's outfit is based off of a melange of ancient dress, most notably Assyrian, with some medieval dagging in there to evoke the shape of leaves. Gandalf is based largely on the Quechua people who inhabit the Andean region of South America with some Viking touches here and there.
Gandalf was in charge of the fireworks: he not only brought the rockets, but he also made them himself to decorate the sky with fiery patterns

Aro Gandalf! Moth is a throwback to Nienna from last year.
@ainurweek Day Eight: Olórin
I stared at a blank screen for awhile on this one. I decided when I did Aiwendil that I wanted to focus on their Maiar forms over their wizard forms. I don't know. I just went with grey and fire. Like Aiwendil I don't know if I'm thrilled with the finish piece. But, eh, it's fine. I might try again in the future if I ever figure out what I think is missing.
Gandalf the Grey and a spontaneous design for him as Olórin, servant of Manwë
Just something about how Bilbo Baggins began his journey saying “Tea is at four” so that he doesn’t get roped into an adventure, but ends his journey saying “Tea is at four” so he can have one last adventure with whoever is left.
