If making mood boards, filling out character charts, and making music playlist helps you to write/draw do it! If it just makes you happy.... also do it! Enjoying things is not a waste of time. Play and fun are fundamental needs.

If you ever thought that your OC is Mary/Marty Sue (ish), remember Mark Hodder and his sir Richard Francis Burton - he is linguist, translator, geographer, fencer, hypnotist and many more.
And then check the Wiki page of sir Richard (he was a real person) and see that he indeed was a linguist, translator, geographer, fencer, hypnotist and many more.
the phrase "diy comfort character" is so funny holy shit. that's literally me when i disagree with the canon for someone i love and i'm like "alright guess i'm fixing this shit myself"
HAHAHA ngl i’m pretty proud of myself for coming up with that 💌
Just know that if you’ve ever said you love one of my OCs, you hold a special place in my heart.

Idk about the other mods but I do not mind oc requests. I however do not want them to become the only thing that gets done on here. so I’ll make 2 choices to go with
1. we have a open times for you to request ocs. we’ll take x number of oc requests at a time on certain days or something
or
2. I or one of the other mods can make a new blog just for ocs.
I’ll talk it over with the other mods when I get the chance. in the mean time however you see fit you may tell us what you think about this. but until we have this figured out (at least for me) I’m gonna say ocs on hold.

On Original Characters
I’ve been meaning to write this for quite a long time, actually. My oc Renard (a Toreador vampire) is gonna be one year old in about a month and - oh boy, did he change my life.
He’s changed a lot, especially design-wise, since the first time I drew him. I wanted him to be flamboyant, beautiful and flirty. He originally had black/purple hair and wore very flashy, very artistic clothes. In time, I began to dress him in androgynous clothes and make him wear make-up in a very drag-ish fashion. His personality, too, changed. Though I keep drawing him in lingerie and things like that, he’s developed into an extremely elegant and educated character since I’ve started roleplaying as him in Vampire: the Masquerade,
What is more important, however, is not how I changed him. It’s how he changed me.
I went through a really hard time last year. I was recovering from the loss of a friendship I considered important, I had been feeling depressed and I had hormone-related problems: I gained 2+ kilos and couldn’t find a way to lose them. I’ve always been chubby and obsessed with my weight, so my incapability to lose those 2 kilos completely destroyed my psyche and my self esteem. Moreover, my face was covered in acne because of the psychological stress I went through. I felt absolutely hideous, and I didn’t want my boyfriend to see my body. Of course this created a lot of problems between us: I can be terribly stubborn when I’m convinced of something, and I hate not being right.
Somehow, I coped with all of this through Renard. He was what I wanted to be, he looked how I wanted to look like, he had the confidence and the attitude I didn’t have. He was similar to me, but different as well: enough to become my alter ego. He made me accept my body again (though I’m still struggling with that, I’ve never fully embraced my appearance) but, above all, he made me accept my desires and needs.
I’ve always been very shy, especially when it comes to sex: some have called me a prude for being so reserved about my sexuality, others have told me I made too much of a big deal over a normal aspect of life such as sex. And maybe they were right. Though I still avoid talking directly about my sexual life (I’ll never do it out of respect for my boyfriend), I’ve become more relaxed when talking about sex in general. I’ve realized what I truly like, what I don’t like and what I’d like to try. I’m no longer ashamed of myself for having “unconventional” fantasies; even though I still haven’t lost weight, I don’t hate my body anymore.
And all of this couldn’t have happened if it wasn’t for my original character. I put my whole heart and soul in creating him, and I absolutely love him. He is a part of me as much as I am a part of him. I wouldn’t be the way I am now, weren’t it for him. To think that a few years ago I didn’t even understand the meaning of ocs! I thought they were stupid and useless. “Why would I need to create a character when there are so many amazing characters already?” I used to think. But now I understand why.
Ocs are to cope. To learn. To experiment. To feel. To have fun. To have faith and pride in something you created.
By shaping them, you can shape yourself. By understanding them, you can understand yourself. By loving them, you can love yourself.
I envy all of you who started making ocs when you were young! I could never bring myself to do it, I was too unsure, too shy. But to everyone who is still as insecure as I used to be, I say: create! You don’t have to do it for others, and you don’t have to force yourself in showing it off, but please, please create!
Do it for your characters. You’ll never know when they will come in handy. But, most importantly: do it for you. ♥
