Raja - 09
From: I Never Saw Another Butterfly, by Celeste Raspanti
Genre: Drama; One Act
Topic: Holocaust; Ludvik; Strength
Character: Teenager; Female
Ludvik – with the rehearsals, the performances – was our hope. We could not let it die. The transports carried away children to die – new children took the empty places but Ludvik stayed and the children found strength and courage playing their parts in it. I know a game. I’ll bet that lady with the little girl over there will turn around. Or maybe that gentleman… I hum a motif from Ludvik, and no matter where they are, they hear it. That would not work with anyone else. You can try it anywhere in the world, just hum a motif from out opera, and you will find them. they are sure to come – the few who remember Terezin.
Irena - 02
From: I Never Saw Another Butterfly, by Celeste Raspanti
Genre: Drama; One Act
Topic: Holocaust; Loss of a Child
Character: Female; Adult; Motherly
Raja, listen to me. You are no longer a child – this minute, you are no longer a child – and so I tell you… I have a child – she is nine years old – she was torn away from my arms and thrown from the train by an angered guard. I tried to throw myself after her – but I was dragged back into the car. I wanted to die until I came to Terezin and found thousands of children waiting for me – and then I knew I must not die… Do you understand? You are no longer a child – and so I tell you. I have a child and she lives whenever I comfort another child or dry her tears.
Auditioned for my schools one acts last minute and I got casted as the character I wanted! This is my first time auditioning for anything like this lol. I'm the stage manager so I'm gonna act and stage manage, I'm going to have to conjure up some super powers or something.
So excited for my role in Anne-Arky!
