im on a journey to take my mental health more seriously and i would love to see some hcs of ponyboy starting medication for his depression/anxiety and all those other issues he's got and the awkwardness that causes with his family and the gang (esp with darry because i know he's probably skeptical about medication all out of a place of worry for his brother) and maybe pony having a hard time getting a good mix of medications and experiencing some of the rougher side effects? i could def see him having an adverse reaction and ending up in the er late at night 😭

•ponys anxiety is baddddd and mainly from school related stuff, his depression has to do w family problems, there is noooooo escape for this guy. at first he was losing it before getting those meds. he ended up w those meds bc soda cracked and told darry what was wrong and pony didnt hate soda, he never could, but he did not wanna look at his face for a bit (like 20 mins lol)
•the pills lead to a lack of appetite for pony so an upside to the pills is that they will make or buy pony whatever pony wants to eat as long as he EATS IT!!! darry and soda want him to eat mainly before taking the pills so hes not on an empty stomach and they dont care WHAT he eats as long as its food (hopefully not junk food but whatever he can eat works)
•pony would make the mistake of thinking he was getting better and not take his meds only to crash HARD not too long after. he would stop taking his meds for a bunch of reasons rlly ESPECIALLY if the meds “messed up” how he looked, call him shallow he dont gaf
•pony very much prefers if it was kept under lock and key which means ONLY darry and soda can know. cant put the pill bottles in the medicine cabinet bc everyone one WILL find it, cant put it in his room bc they MIGHT find it, so pony wants to hide the meds in darrys room which really works in darrys favor!! darry doesnt want pony to abuse em or anything and darrys room is the one place in the house the guys 100% dont go in unless someones dying or the place is on fire
•in the beginning, pony rlly just wants to feel normal, so occasionally soda would just try to smash the pills into a powder and mix it in ponys food so he doesnt have to take the pills normally (dont worry, soda privately asked the doctor if he could do that, he can, pony is safe and fine). leads to mixed emotions from pony but hey it does make him feel normal in a way so its fine
•figuring out what pills and dosage would be good for pony is the main time darry became worried for pony. there were moments where the dosage wasnt enough for pony and pony became super irritable over it not working so they’d have to up the dosage and darry was scared he’d become addicted to the meds and take it at any sign of trouble in his life to calm down instead of dealing w it
•BUT WHAT ALSO CAME W THE HIGHER DOSAGE was ponys sexual drive just completely vanishing on him. saying it outloud maybe its not that serious, but that was one of the things that made pony feel normal and related to others around him even if it was small, so to have that go out on him makes him feel more isolated, these meds r not working in his favor at all for a while. even MORE worse cause he doesnt know if he just break things off w curly over this, the meds make it feel like its just a phase and theyre suppose to help him feel better but HE doesnt feel like its a phase and wants to stay together!! even if he does wanna break it off how can he, he didnt tell curly about the meds so he cant say the truth, nor can he just say “i wanna break up” and not explain he feels messed up for that, soooo for now hanging w curly as much as he loves em feels like a chore NOT BC OF CURLY but all bc of ponys own issues
•ponys w serotonin syndrome???? WOW that was embarrassing the first time it happened. pony took the pills the first time after a dosage change and he was fine, day after that took those pills and he was fine for a couple hours until his eyes went wide, he starting shivering, got a migrane, and sweating a lot. 3 or more symptoms came after they got to the hospital, that bathroom in the waiting room was ponys best friend at that moment. FROM THEN ON☝🏽☝🏽☝🏽pony was petrified to start a new dose
•the pills gave pony insomnia, he is taking an increased dosage of melatonin. one of the gang points out the melatonin is finishing quick and darry and soda say theyve been taking some lately too for pony not to get questioned then and there by everyone (which is true they have been taking some, not THAT much however) but uuuu knowwww they had a talk about it. now soda watches pony taking his necessary meds to make sure theres no funny business goin on. HE DOESNT MAKE IT FEEL LIKE HES WATCHING PONY bless his soul for that but pony knows y soda randomly pops up when hes in the kitchen around his scheduled time to take the pills
•sleeping in the same bed (or the couch) w soda AND darry did tremendous work to make pony feel better, he’d still feel uneasy but safe. when the gang finds them in the morning
•the day pony finds pills good for him?? he will feel like he can take the world and skips school to bask in his positive vibes, he hasnt felt this good in MONTHS. when he picks up his hobbies again?? what a rush for this guy he feels like a new person, he’ll even pick up new ones like painting
•the pills r in those like pill day organizers for old ppl and darry and soda tease him for it cause ponys also taking some vitamins w it, its like he IS an old man rn
•pony would eventually find the right pills and dosage for him and thats when he feels comfortable enough to b more open about it w ppl hes close to
•when the gang finds out they wouldnt b upset at all, thats ponys business, they suspected something but figured whatever it is will come out eventually and it seemed like darry and soda already knew too so no need to pry. that being said they would all laugh at the times pony was nearly caught and came up w a dumb excuse on what was happening to him, ponys in on it too dw
A list of (relatively small) things I don't like/care for in OPLA, pretty much my only criticisms of the series so far:
I don't care much for Luffy's backstory. It's not even about the way they presented it, "chaos kid who's always followed this one dream and insists on being ready when they're not" is just not a character type I particularly care about.
Buggy is entertaining in small doses but can quickly get annoying. I like the amount of his involvement in S2 but he overstayed his welcome in S1. I could've done without either his excessive taunting of Luffy in S1E2 or his role towards the end of the season.
Sanji's backstory just breaks my suspension of disbelief. I get the gist of it and I completely buy his and Jeff's relationship (even though "emotionally constipated men who yell insults at each other instead of communicating" is a dynamic I don't really care for) but just watching the flashback play out holds zero emotions for me. Cutting off and eating your own leg would only kill you faster in this situation, not help you, and yeah, it's a fantasy world yada-yada, but sorry, that just doesn't work for me in this case.
The giants subplot in S2E4 does absolutely nothing for me and only drags on. I like their role in S2E5 and how they encourage Usopp to go save his friends but the whole thing around their 100-year battle and honourable fighting is so stupid and nonsensical to me. There is a certain degree of honourable behaviour in battle I can get behind, like Zoro's "wounds in the back are a swordsman's greatest shame" because it's a sign of cowardice or not cheating when you promised a fair fight like 1 vs 1, but the way the giants practise it is just throwing your life away for nothing and not inspiring in any way.
S2E7 drags forever and I did not care for Chopper's backstory. It was way too long (should've been half that time) and tried really hard to make you cry with scene after scene after scene. Hiriluk throwing Chopper out is stupid and only traumatizes him more than Hiriluk's dying would so makes me lose a lot of sympathy for the guy. Then his "helping" for the land is so laughably arbitrary that it feels like he'd be the type of guy to send you "thoughts & prayers!" and thought he'd done something. His grand last stand at the castle does nothing either, he has explosives with him but doesn't even try to attack the one guy who is very obviously the entire and only problem for everything going wrong in the country (and he killed the guards outside no problem so it's not about being a doctor who doesn't kill people on principle). His speech and Dalton going "Do you think this country can be healed?" feels so laughable when literally the only problem is sitting right next to them and killing him would fix everything, as it does when Luffy does so one episode later. Of course Hiriluk wouldn't succeed in this instance but at least show him trying, maybe? (His "a monster will come, he is my son, don't harm him" is so much more emotional than the entire rest of that scene.)
Both S2E8 and S2E7 put unnecessarily long speeches in situations where they just look massively awkward. E7 has Hiriluk's in front of the guards who Wapol orders to shoot him three different times yet none of them do anything for no discernable reason only so he can finish his random speech. E8 has both Vivi and Wapol doing speeches while standing right in front of each other and doing a bunch of intense faces. They both patiently wait for the other to finish insulting them before either saying anything or just hitting them to make them stop. It looks so goofy and stupid, not epic or badass. For Hiriluk's scene, just remove all the guards except for Dalton (who it makes sense for not to shoot) and have Wapol just scream for them to come running at the end of the scene. For Vivi's, just remove most of both speeches entirely and reduce them to about one sentence each. Wapol calls her a weak and stupid princess just like her father and says he's going to take back his throne now like the proper king he is, then Vivi stands up to him, slaps him and quotes her line from her father at him. Voilà, flows a lot better!
I don't really get why the mutated soldiers from Wapol would be immune to any kind of wound in battle. Sure, they'd be a lot tougher than normal humans on account of having been fused with all kinds of weapons, but I don't see how that'd translate to "literally invulnerarble" since they are still partly human. We should've seen that it takes a lot for them to go down but that killing/wounding them is still possible, e.g. blowing them up or Zoro needing to cut through them completely instead of just stabbing them once.

My slightly unhinged EdelBert headcanons:
- In private, Edelgard enjoys kissing Hubert; chaste pecks on the cheek, short kisses on the lips, sloppy make out sessions, mildly appropriate “church tongue”, it doesn’t matter. But she likes kissing him after his morning cup of coffee the most out of all of them.
- Hubert is secretly a remarkable poet. He’ll never admit to it, though. Most of what he writes (that he doesn’t burn) are sonnets dedicated to Edelgard.
- Edelgard enjoys snuggling. Hubert is (secretly) happy to oblige.
- Hubert can also sing rather beautifully, he just hates doing it. Prior to the Officer’s Academy, Edelgard was the only one who knew this. She is also the only person who can get him to acquiesce and sing.
- No one can convince me that Edelgard wasn’t hurt by Hubert’s lack of direct acknowledgment regarding her disappearance (revealed in Three Hopes) until they were in their 20s.
- Similarly, Hubert never told Edelgard the story about his ill-fated campaign to bring her home when he was ten— not because it was unimportant, but because he feared it would reveal his true feelings for her. And that scared him more than anything. It’s also likely the reason for his reluctance to discuss the above point as well.
- Should Edelgard and Hubert ever have children, she would absolutely be the “strict mom”, while he would 100 percent be the closet “fun dad”.
- Hubert was likely viciously tormented by his younger siblings for his love/devotion to Edelgard, which he ALSO refused to admit. The most ruthless teasing came from his sister, who just wanted her big brother to be happy.
- Even after they enter a relationship, Edelgard and Hubert argue. It’s not often, but when it happens, it’s bad. During one particular knock-down, drag out fight of theirs over her recklessness in battle, Edelgard screams, “you’re supposed to follow my orders!” To which, Hubert yells back, “My apologies, my lady, I was under the impression that we were equals.” They don’t speak to each other for several days, until Dorothea intervenes and makes them talk out their issues.
- We’re supposed to understand the paired ending cards as “pages from a history book in the distant future”. Given the ambiguity in a lot of the endings, Edelgard and Hubert’s included, it seems as though they should be taken with a grain of salt— as history is only as good as the records you keep… with that in mind, it’s possible that Hubert outlives Edelgard due to the toll of the Agarthan experiments. Upon her death, he burns all paper evidence of their personal lives (come to think of it, probably all evidence of any type) in order to keep their private lives private. So concrete evidence of their existence, which would have been plentiful while they were a part of the government, was wiped out (as per the “fade from history” line in the end card) when they went to live as private citizens— as Hubert was now in full control of the narrative. There was no longer evidence of them admitting their feelings, and it’s not like any of their friends would rat on them, so history was left to speculate based on what was widely known about their public personas; what is stated though, is far from the case. Regardless, Hubert doesn’t live much longer after Edelgard’s passing… and we all unfortunately know why.
- Should Edelgard marry someone else, (*ahem* Byleth *ahem*) Hubert refuses to stand in her way, despite his feelings; he’s just happy that she’s happy. He even walks her down the aisle on her wedding day and stands as her “Man of Honor”, as much as it kills him.
- Hubert prides himself on his attention to detail when it comes to Edelgard; he notices everything about her and her needs, even before her sometimes. Which is why it comes as a shock to him when she tells him that she’s pregnant, because he never would have guessed that as being the reason for her slightly strange behavior as of late. You guys ever see that one scene in BBC’s Sherlock where John asks Sherlock to be his best man, and Sherlock’s brain does the blue screen of death? Well, that’s what happens when Edelgard informs Hubert that they’re going to be parents. XD
