I'm sorry but the tap dancing scene is right up there at the top with the praying scene by the tree and the whole Demon Dean singing karaoke scene. In fact the whole Demon Dean episode arc. The second hand embarrassment is real.
So cringeworthy! Were the writers just throwing ideas at the wall? Stealing scenes from bad fanfic? I love Supernatural, I really do, but there are times, especially like these, where I really wonder if anyone involved in the later seasons (other than Jared) actually cared about proper storytelling.
People think its weird or OOC that Dean left Sam in the Vampire cave when he died. I don’t, he’s left dead!sam before. However, I do think its weird and OOC that Dean jumped back through the rift when Sam said “GO!” and left him in the AU alone with Lucifer and Michael standing right there.
//There was that time Sam switched bodies with Gary and Dean never really seemed to notice. I always felt like that was very OOC of Dean.// - Yes!! I always think about this too. Especially after we see in 'Skin' that Sam is with shifter!Dean for a VERY short time and he immediately knows something is off and throws him the keys to test his theory and is proven right immediately. But Dean just hung out with very clearly not!Sam for days and.. nothing??
As much as I'd like to use a canon explanation for this, it's one of the worst examples of OOC Dean that I just have to throw up my hands and simply blame the writers for taking the lazy way out and not coming up with a plausible explanation that would allow Not!Sam to hang around with Dean without him noticing. I know it was necessary for the plot and the humor, but they couldn't come up with any line of dialogue or hint that Dean was on to Gary? Nope, just nope.
Dean was pissed, no actually beyond pissed. He was ready to strangle Castiel. He was used to the angel running off with out telling him, doing stupid things and then running back to the Winchesters. Losing both the angel and demon tablets, letting Lucifer inside of him, losing Kelly, the list goes on and on. However for some reason this last time was the last straw. Castiel hadn’t even done anything wrong, well that he knew off, just left and like normal wasn’t answering his or Sam’s calls.
I could have been because he and Dean gave into their feelings and started a pretty um... “regular” romance, if you will. Pent up aggression, a need for love, simple human needs. Or maybe it was the absents of comfort at night, in the beginning when they started dating Dean would sleep on his stomach, Cas on his back. After a while he found him self needing to be held and would ask Cas to spoon him, which was kind of a shock for the angel. He was so used to seeing Dean as the rough, bad ass type. He wasn’t used to seeing the real Dean just yet. But by his father he loved the older Winchester brother. Spponing with Cas made him feel safer, loved, like something that was missing was filled that, as the siren stripper said, a bitch in a g-string couldn’t give him. Pure genuine love, not a booty call, not a one night stand. Something real, something materialized. Something Dean had never had. Cas was his rock, his home, and god did he need him. But the lonely nights have been taking a toll on him, both emotionally and physically. He couldn’t sleep with out the extra warmth, the feeling of love, with out Castiel. He was flipping out on Sam and Mary, becoming more irritable each day with out Cas.
So when he felt pressure on the right side of the bed he was ready to fully unleash his fury. Rolling over he looked up into the familair blue eyes and scowled. “Where the hell have you been, huh,” Cas let the covers drop back onto the mattress. Taking a better look at his lover Dean noticed he was wearing one of his t-shirts. An old gray based, faded, Metallica t-shirt. Looking down he was only wearing a pair of boxer-briefs, his body was starting to betray him, but his anger was still stronger than his neediness. “I was busy,” Dean rolled his eyes, dramatically moving his hand. “And what else is knew? Busy with what dumb ass,” Cas sighed. “Look I can see your upset,” Dean sat up. “Oh upset, upset? Upset doesn’t even begin to cover it Cas! The lies, the disappearing, the ignoring,” his voice was starting to crack. Damn it, he was becoming soft. “The trust,” he could feel his eyes watering up. Damn he never realized how much he put into Cas. He was normally so stone faced, kept to himself. If it was bad enough he’d talk to Sam a little bit about whatever was bothering him or Bobby. But with Cas, no, with Cas it was everything. It was like something out of a chick flick. He hated himself for it so much, this wasn’t the Dean Winchester the world knew. It was the Dean Winchester Castiel knew. The one he loved. Compared to the other Dean, Cas much preferred this one.
“I had business,” he took a breath. ‘No more secrets, honesty, openness’, he had to remind him self. “I was called to heaven in an offer of a job,” Dean groaned into his hands, pushing them up his face and through his hair. “And what was the job this time,” Castiel sat on the edge of the bed. “Well I wasn’t really paying attention, I think it had something to do with Crowley, or hell, or something,” Dean was still pretty mad. “And,” he asked. “And I turned them down... which they didn’t really like,” he looked down at the floor awkwardly. “So there was a bit of a fight, clearly as you can see I won but, yeah. I’m sorry I didn’t return your calls,” he sighed. “Again,” Dean rolled over. “Yeah, again,” Castiel frowned. Moving inward on the bed more he started rubbing Dean’s arm in a comforting manner. Pulling away Dean didn’t bother looking at the angel. Cas sighed. “Dean look, I’m sorry for what I’ve done. No mater what I do I can’t make up for that, I know. But I know you know I mean well,” Dean shot up in anger. “Of course you do! You always do Cas! But do you ever think of the consequences? Huh, do you? No you freaking don’t! Then you get your self caught or in danger and Sam and I have to bust your sorry ass out,” well... this felt nice. “Here’s an idea, if your so sorry, stop f***ing doing it dude,” his knuckled had turned white from how hard he was squeezing the blankets.
Cas stayed quiet and looked away. “Of course, nothing to say. Like always, you go off saying your sorry for what you do but you never mean it. Yeah okay so what you, you, took off again with out any warning. Okay whatever, did something stupid, okay whatever normal. Everything is normal but one thing Castiel. Do you know what that one thing is,” god he felt like a clingy wife. But it needed to be said and he wasn’t stopping anytime soon. Cas sighed and clapped his hands together. “No, I don’t Dean. What is different,” Dean glared at him. “Us, you ass hole. We’re different. We’re not just friends, and we’re freaking closer than family at this point. We’ve slept together, we’ve made love so many times. I told you things I’ve never even freaking told Sam! I confided in you Castiel. You say you fell for me? Guess what asshole, I fell for you. Harder than you can even imagine, yet here you are just throwing it all away. All my trust, my feelings, the feelings I never let out. The shit that makes me weak Castiel, that makes me what I hate in people. If you don’t feel the same, you might as well march your ass back up to heaven, or better yet just go. Never come back,” Dean had tears starting to slip down his face. Rolling over childishly he gritted his teeth, tears starting to stream down his face.
Taken back a bit Cas felt the guilt and illness from before grow to the point he thought he was going to throw up. Climbing under the covers he pulled Dean into him, spooning from behind. Dean didn’t bother fighting him this time, he was full blown sobbing. He felt so weak, so used. He felt pathetic, like well.... a stereotypical woman. He was so embarrassed on top of that for how he reacted, for opening to Castiel, making him his rock. Lips brushed against the back of his neck. “Dean,” Cas whispered. “Don’t cry,” he tried to sooth him, adding more embarrassment. Before he could protest he was flipped on his back, Castiel hovering over him. “I truly do Dean,” he was working his way down to the other’s face. “I love you so much,” Dean squirmed underneath him. This was just so embarrassing. He wiped away the salty streaks before giving Dean a sympathetic look. “I denied them for you. I do what I do for you. How you try to protect Sam and everyone you meet, and I admire it. I hate your cold walls, I hate your secretiveness. I hate your fake persona. I love this, I love you. The real you who opens up to me about his feelings, who tells me when he’s upset. I love your sensitivity, it doesn’t make you weak. You want to be that fake douche bag around Sam that’s fine, but don’t you dare take the real Dean from me. I love you, I do what I do to try and protect you. Clearly it doesn’t always work I know. I know your mad, and I know your probably going to come back with some snarky rebuttal but guess what Dean Winchester, I’m not leaving,” Dean grabbed the back of his head before he could think, bringing him into a deep kiss.
After coming up for air Cas looked down at him again. Dean smilied, a gentle smile. A loving smile. “Feel better,” he asked. “For now, yeah,” he sat up slightly to bring their heads closer. “But you could make me even better,” he smirked wrapping his arms around Cas’s shoulder blades, looping under his arms. Cas smirked, “With pleasure,” with that he brought Dean into yet another kiss as Dean started working his way into a night of seriously need love.
Dean looked up, seeing Cas’ face covered with blood, his skin seeming to rot over his cheeks and his eyes shadowed with a black bruise around them. Though even in this state, his bright blue eyes still seemed to glow.
“Don’t look at me Dean, I don’t want you to see me like this.”
