- Rune for the New Moon - Mannaz - . Mannaz asks you to be a mensch. The rune literally means "man", in this case we'll go with the Yiddish meaning: a person of integrity and honor. . It's an appropriate symbol for the New Moon in Gemini, the sign of the twins. Within each one of us we have the good wolf and the evil wolf. You know the saying. Which one grows? The one you feed. . The Mannaz rune is composed of two Wunjo runes facing each other. Wunjo is the rune for joy... Joy reversed? Things get ugly. . The New Moon is a time for planting seeds. For starting new habits and patterns. For feeding new wolves. . Lately my law has been, "treat others as you would like to be treated." It's surprisingly difficult, especially if you're in the mood to be passive aggressive or when you're feeling rushed or hard done by. But it makes things so much easier. . If you treat people as you would like to be treated, then you never have to worry that you did the wrong thing or misbehaved or provoked someone into misbehaving themselves. . An important thing to remember too is that, from a spiritual perspective, like if we really want to get real about it, there is no separation between you and the world. . You treat the world as you would like to be treated, because YOU ARE THE WORLD. Your ego identity is an illusion. . Be a mensch. Show compassion. Stand up for what you know is right. For me, a major part of the process of becoming a witch has been about recognizing the worthiness of my own voice and experience. . I've always admired people with conviction, people who trust their stories are worth telling. Sometimes when out in public, someone will ask me a question about magic and my mind will go blank. . Throat clenched, a feeling of panic will rise. What if I have nothing to say? What if what I say is irrelevant or “basic”? . The irony is that I’ve spent my life studying magic, I have just as much a right to speak about it as anyone. But decades of social conditioning can leave even the best of us witches feeling insecure. . The 9 of Wands asks us to come back to our experience. You don’t have to impress anyone.
